The real world can be a cruel place. It's messy, complicated, and often not quite as charming as the fantasy worlds we sometimes choose to escape to. Despite all this, the world has courageous individuals that we can look up to - people willing to sacrifice their time, reputation, and in some cases their life for what they believe in. People fighting for the greater good... We call these people heroes. Who stands out in this world as one you can admire and idealize?
Who is your Hero?

- Hammurabi
- Confucius
- Zoroaster
- Cyrus the great
- Buddha
- Zeno, Socrates, Epictetus and Marcus Aurelius.
- Shaolin Masters
- True and just Knights and Samurai of middle age
- Spinoza, Kant, Fichte, Schelling and Hegel
- Napoleon Bonaparte & Otto von Bismark
- Thomas Edison, Bill Gates!
- George Lucas (before he lost his good determination about movie scenes)
- Many important persons which I don't remember right now ... and few uncertain.
We live in history. History isn't dead.
And 5 major Antagonists:
- Nietzsche
- Freud
- Stalin
- Santayana
- Bertrand Russell
Who actually screwed the world by their theories and acts.

There are several people in history and presence who can be my hero for a long time at a special path or for a moment.
Like the lesbian couple who saved 40 people in Norway at the massacre.
The mother, alone with 5 children, who was the best student in my last class.
Politicians like Gandhi - who followed a good spirit in politics.
The soldiers who opened the wall 1989 instead of shooting.
My mother who survived the end of the horror war in 1945 and walk 100es of miles home at her feet.
and a lot more ...daily heroes

Family members and dear friends alike possess qualities that I admire and draw both strength and inspiration from.
On a broader scale, people who raise their voices to question something they believe to be wrong or unjust, people who stretch out their hands to lift others up, and people who create because passion runs in their blood - such people are all my heroes, be they nameless/faceless or well known, because they inspire me to strive to give, and to be something greater.

My mom for her patience, kindness, and understanding. Ada Lovelace for her intellect and visionary creativity. Dorothy Parker for her caustic wit and clever writing.

No one I fallow the advice found in the Hagakure. There is no one best person, insted you should look at whats the best quality in all that you respect and aspire to live up to those as a whole.
But if one person had to be listed it would be my Grandfather he was the bases for a number of those qualities I fallow, more than most at least..

My maternal grandfather and my mother's first cousin, my uncle.
Both men were strong, courageous and wise. My grandfather served two tours of duty in World War II in the infantry. My uncle served in Vietnam, he was a Marine. These two men showed me what it meant to have honor, dignity and integrity. They showed me that men do what is right even when it hard, even when its dangeroud and especially when it is needed. These two men are my hero's. They are gone now but they live on in me. I live, so too do they.

All my friends that I have lost over the years... Any servicemen who risks his life on the field of battle, regardless of nationality or creed.
It will be my time eventually.

Michael Abrash.
He is a software engineer who wrote in Dr Dobbs Journal in the last millennium.
He was one of the pioneers of software optimization. As a coder myself I learned a lot from those articles, his "Graphics Programming Black Book", and his way of thinking. He worked for id software, Microsoft and Intel (to name a few). Gabe from Valve and Micheal are friends for a long time. Since about 2000 Gabe and Micheal had dinner every six months or so. Gabe always ended with something like "Are you ready to work for us"? Finally Michael gave in this year.

My dad I guess, I really learned a lot from him over the years, mainly how to take care of one's family and how to be an overall nice person.
