 Everytime I try to play Mass Effect 2 the message always comes up "Failed to authenticate the disc. Please insert the correct disc and try again." the game installs fine and I have tryed with Disc 1 and Disc 2 but the same message always appears. I have also tryed just putting the product code into steam but it says invalid product code even though when I install the game it accepts the code.

Please register the game on the forums. This is not an accusation, but given the spate of users with illegally downloaded copies coming to the forums asking for help, forum registration is the only way we can be sure we are dealing with a legit copy. Illegally downloaded copies include hacked and modified files which could be either corrupt, or full of malware. Once its registered, we will be happy to help.

OK. No offence meant, but there have been cases in the past where people have come along with teh same problem, only for it to turn out they had got it from a torrent, and without a disk we were spending a crapload of time trying to figure out a piracy issue. Frustrating as hell, as you could imagine. :)

Disk 1 is the disk it requires to authenticate and play the game. Heres some things to try;
1) Check the disk for fingerprints or other dirty marks. If there are any, using a soft cloth, clean it from the inside hole to the outer edge. Do not rub in circles, as that might leave lateral scratches on the surface that can cause further read errors.
2) Do you have multiple DVD drives, and if so, do you have any disk in the other drive? If so, take it out and try again.
3) Do you have Nero SmartStart, or Roxio's disk manager loaded at startup? These can cause conflicts with the disk
4) Eject the disk, then put it back in, and let the autorun kick in, and fire up the launcher. Click play from there. Does it work then?
5) Do you have Kapersky Antivirus? That causes all sorts of weird problems with ME2, and other games that use the Unreal3 engine.

1) done
2) Yes 1 Real DVD drive which I put the disk in(D:) and 1 Virtual drive generated by Daemon tools (I:). In an effort to avoid this causing and issue I went into computer management and removed the virtual drives letter. This prevents it from being referenced...
3)No, No, I have Daemon tools which I have switch off all emulation features and closed it.
4)No running the disk from the auto play does not fix the problem.
5)No I use AVG anti-Virus.

I run Hamachi and drop box, could either of these cause a conflict?

Its possible that Drop box and/or Hamachi are causing a conflict, but it is also as likely that EA's disk formatting could be causing the problem. Their DRM is known to cause occasional conflicts with certain brand DVD-writers.
Probably the easiest solution to this problem, instead of disabling your applications, or finding a firmware update for your drive, would be to download a no-disk version of the exe from gamecopyworld.com
