Constant wisecracks from everyone also has the potential to get wearing

I'm sure David Gaider won't make it into a disney flick. The best thing about Dragon age's humour is that it's suprising, and doesn't try to smack you in the face with it.

Art wise it had better be a MAJOR improvement over the last Dragon Age comic book series.

In the 'default' game, Alistair is King and Loghain is [amazingly] alive.

Not surprised. Gaider has loved Loghain for forever.

I would like to point out that while all three of them are humorous characters; Alistair, Isabella, and Varric all have there own "flavors" of humor. So I think there should be enough variety to keep the humor from going stale.

Not to mention that all three have shown that they are quite capable of being serious and contemplative if the situation calls for it. Varric's Act 2 quest, for example.

You enjoyed yourself far too much in that one. Heh.

Well, I meant more towards the end of the quest :P Particularly if you brought Anders along. Nothing humorous there.

So during the course of the comic/story you would only portray situations that tries not to coincide with what players believe to be life changing choices that were potentionally made in the player's games?  Like, the way they meet up with Alistair he was doing *this* but it won't say if he was doing it as a King or a Grey Warden or whatever, or if it required either or.

They've already established that he's a king in the story. I would expect that Gaider is going attempt to make it as enclosed a story as possible, probably something similar to the plot to Leliana's Song. Depending on when the story is set, there may be references to things that happen regardless like the Act 2 climax or the fact there is a Hawke in Kirkwall, but the story likely won't focus on any details past generalities.

I have a vital and important question, with an equally vital and important follow up question.

Will there be hand holding?

And, at any point, does anyone skip?

The answers to these question could well be determinative.

I have a question for Mr. Gaider if he would be nice enough to answer.

Since Alistair is so popular a character, why was a comic book chosen instead of another expansion for DAO or dlc for just Alistair alone (even with the new engine)? I'm curious. I do like the idea of finding out more on him and why he has left Ferelden and what this mystery is regarding his past.

I'm just going to say I would have bought this as a dlc or expansion and been on pins/needles until it's release. Will a dlc ever be developed for his new story of Alistair's? Once again just being curious.

I guess Isabela is going to get her playtime with my King and Husband after all for the summer! Posted Image

Well you could read the thing that the OP linked to. Might help you a little.

Only on very specific occasions, in the case of Varric and especially Isabela, and I have to say their judgement of what situations call for it is different from mine.

If things capable of keeping down Isabela and Varric's sense of humour are happening regularly, this will be about the most depressing comic ever.

Did I read somewhere that the comic will sell for 99 cents? Well that's a no-brainer.

I read the article from the link, thanks.  My question still stands on why they didn't make this a dlc or a new expansion for DAO?  I'm curious as to why they chose this medium to flesh out more of Alistair's story.

All I'm saying as a player, is that I would have prefered to play vs read the story.

Probably because it's easier than making an entirely new piece of game.

Okay, disregard my previous post. After reading more about it, I am SO excited! :D It looks very interesting, and the humor seems like it will be epic, what with those three together.

While I'd love to do a DLC like Leliana's Song based around Alistair, it's 10x less complex to create a comic book then it is to put together an entire game-- even one with the amount of content in a DLC. There's approximately four or five people working on a comic, and up to sixty working on a game. I'd have thought that'd be obvious, but perhaps not.

I'll also point out that you can do different stories in a comic or novel than in a game. We can have someone visit an entirely new and different location without having to create reams of content to make the areas or character models for it. You also don't have to worry about player agency-- this is a simple tale about Alistair, one that you'll be reading and not playing. That's really the point.

So there might actually be horses and cloaks in the comic!?!:wizard:

I suppose it's too much to ask for a Warden/Leliana romance and Hawke/Isabela romance to STAY that way. <_<

I guess this is difficult for a few people to wrap their heads around? So, once again: all the versions of Alistair -- whether he died, ended up a drunk in Kirkwall, remained in the Grey Wardens, became the King of Ferelden and/or continued his romance with the Warden-- are equally "true". They all exist. That's part of the nature of a narrative that involves choices.

Your choices will continue to be reflected in future games, where possible-- so if you import a game with a drunken Alistair then you can reasonably expect that he will continue to be so.

Since you cannot import your personal save into a comic book or a novel, they will have to select a version of the world in which to reside for any part of the narrative that intersects with characters or choices that appeared in the games. This does not affect your future games, and if the version we've chosen doesn't match up with yours (or one of yours-- some people have many "canon" saves, I imagine) then you'll either have to imagine it as a "what if" or simply ignore the tale if that's insufficient. Either way, it won't affect your game-- if Alistair is dead in your game, for instance, then obviously he never went on this adventure.

The comic book is just a story taken from a piece of the DA continuuity, not an interactive video game. It's that simple.

My import had King Alistair. I was thoroughly shocked to find drunk Alistair, by accident, on my second playthrough.

I really like the many parallel possibilities, actually. Looking at the same character in a different way, sort of thing.

There are people here who get annoyed that Fenris and Isabela hook up in other people's games.

In order to match up to all of my canon saves, Alistair would have to be simultaneously king, not king, still in the Grey Wardens, grieving his dead dwarven lover, happily married to a Cousland, and married to Anora. Twice. With all of that, it's no wonder he's also drunk.
