New comic book written by David Gaider: Alistair, Varric and Isabela go to Antiva

If this story matches my canon (i.e., the marital status of Alistair, dark ritual, etc.), then I have no real justifiable reason for disregarding the story, thus it becomes true for me whether I like it or not. I feel like going 'nope, doesn't match my headcanon, DIDN'T HAPPEN' would be cheating on my part.
So I'm interested in this, because I like all three characters a lot, but I'm also a little nervous.

However, the Alistair fangirl in me is near SCREAMING that he's left off with adventures without her. AGAIN.
...WITH ISABELLA.

It was a possibility, yes. I posted about it some time ago, but I did a pitch for an Alistair DLC along with Leliana's Song. I pictured it as kind of a Grey Warden “Easy Company” thing, playing the rookie Alistair in his first few months with Duncan. Would have loved to write it, but it takes a lot to line up all the resources for these things. Maybe elements of it will poke up somewhere else.tmp7704 wrote...
Out of interest, is something like that considered even a vague possibility by you guys? Because yeah, it'd be lovely.
So, sorry for the tease, but we do know the appreciation for the character. Oh boy, do we know.
All I gotta say is, this comic better have some fanservice for us ladies. >

I think Oghren, Varric, and Isabela would have been better, now that I think about it.
Then there would be no plot xD Oghren would try to get with Isabella every 2 pages and Varric would be trying to get away from the guy.

First off...LOLOLOL! Yeah. I expect you would, wouldn't you? Again. lol.
I certainly wish you'd been able to write that DLC. It would have been awesome.
As for the comic, I can't wait. I'm a little nervous about the artwork, as that cover art really doesn't look that much like the characters, but the story is the main thing, and I'm certain it will be really fun.

I hear you. However, I think the days of DAO's forge our own destiny approach is dead. The writing has shifted toward an established mainline canon ever since the Leliana's Song DLC and shows no signs of letting up.
As players we can ignore this canon and enjoy the games for the microcosms they are; or allow it to rule us and ruin our personal experiences. I have years of video games and some small tabletop experience that already make me comfortable with the former. I think it's the easiest way to stay sane about this sort of thing.
No, I get what you're saying. I'm just more curious/concerned with the likelihood of this sort of canon/default world state thing bleeding over into the games. I can ignore the comics/anime/books/happy meal toys just fine, but when stuff from those start getting back into the game or things in the game are being dictated a certain way to work better with the ancillary products, thats when I give up.
With the lack of choice and how railroaded things are in DA2, it already feels that way where you're just playing an NPC and just going through the motions with the story firmly on rails, lessening the whole "forge your own destiny approach" and just playing an adventure game which can be easily tied into ancillary movies/books/whatever.
This. I'm surprised Mr. Gaider hasn't already decided to give us his character for the next Dragon Age game.
He's already done everything he could to push his canon storyline onto the game world.

Thankfully Alistair's lived in MOST of my canon plays and the writers were careful when they handled Varric and Isabela. Though someone in Alistair's place (a new male character since we got enough female leads in DA) might have created less backlash.
Regardless, I see this just like I see the LoTSB storyline in Mass Effect (specifically how Shepard's/Liara's dynamics are) and the likes of Sheploo, Garrett/Marian Hawke and all else. "What if" scenarios. "What if" scenarios that are PUSHED on us (which is the problem with fandom and fan-service when it comes to characters), but nevertheless "what-if" scenarios.

And in my game Isabela left my hawke to have an orgie with Varric (best friend of hawke), Zevran and Alistair, who left the kingdom in hands of his uncle, all 4 in an exotic land with beach and sun, nice!rak72 wrote...

For those of you with Drunk Alistairs, it's a drunken trip of wonderment as he wanders the streets of Kirkwall with a bottle in his hand. The only reason Isabela and Varric are there is because he met them both while he was hanging out in The Hanged Man.

For those of you with Warden Alistairs and say your game isn't canon, he ate bad cheese and the taint is altering his perception of reality where he thinks he's hanging out with two people he met in his brief stay in Kirkwall.

You just spoiled the comic's ending twist!
