Nice find!

I really like Chad Hardin's style of drawing people more than say Matt Rhodes. Just how Hardin makes people look more realistic it makes me much more receptive to the art than some of the more stylized concept art from DA2 and seemingly DA3.

That said, I 'm not much of a fan of the armor/clothing designs. Everything from DA2 to the comics just seems so similar- like it was all designed by one or two people. Barely any of the armor/clothing looks especially practical or much like stuff you'd be able to see an actual person in pseudo-medieval fantasy land be able to make and wear. So much just looks like style over substance with very little cultural distinctions being made to differentiate the styles or clothing/armor/weapons based on geography or culture.

I really hope thats not the case in DA3 (like DA2 where everyone just had different types of spikey, blocky, feather/fur laden armor/clothing).

So the dude up top (Aurelius Titus) has Morrigan yellow eyes.  How common is that among humans in Thedas?

What is it with all the sharp edges?

Why can't we just have normal looking armour with a little stylisation like in DA:O? I mean those pauldrons on the heavy plate were just huge, but it looked cool (to me) and the rest of the armour looked pretty convincing and believable.

then the Champion armour came along ...

*sigh*

They're obviously tying the yellow eyes to some connection to dragons. The guy is a magister / likely dragon cultist and based on the preview pages, he can do some sort of dragon magic stuff. Added to his interest in Maric/Alistair who were wanted by Yavana and Flemeth for some further dragon ritual.

Yeah...when fantasy tries to tell a story thats trying to deal with somewhat real life emotions and gravitas like Dragon Age seems to be trying to do, yet tosses in ridiculous looking armor/clothing/weapons it kills the feel that the author might have been trying to go for. I think Titus is wearing a hood in his concept art but it practically looks like he's Pyramid Head from Silent Hill.

And it kind of bugs me that Sten is just wearing copycat armor from the Arishok. I guess I was under the impression the styles of armor and clothing we saw in DA2 with the Qunari wasn't necessarily indicitive of Qunari uniform at large, since they were shipwrecked in Kirkwall and all. Especially considering Origins' descriptions of them having fancy glittering armor and gunpowder, I'd expect them to look a bit more sophisticated and not just like hulking brutes.

Tevinter:

Posted Image

Dragon Age: Those Who Speak #1 has been launched today that that was released both in print and as digital.
Alistair, Isabela, and Varric are continuing their journey. There is nothing worse than coming to the worst country, ever depicted on the pages of history of Thedas. Tevinter, a nation of slavery. It is here that magisters reign; the mages that many years ago has forced their way to the house of the Maker and defiled the Golden City bringing the  First Blight to the world. The young king knows that here he would not  find anything good; however, chasing the track of his father, the  legendary Maric, he enters the evils den. What will become of the three? We will know it from the first issue of the comics.

The comic is more expensive :s....well it's longer.

About the story in itself...mmmm....I think i need to see everything unfold.
This issue seemed like an introduction to new sub plots (Isabella , Qunari etc...)
Wasn't really impressed with the Tevinter part , though the vignette with slaves being sold in the street kind remind me of where everything was taking place , it's not so much "grrr we're evil blood magic everywhere" ...just a bunch of nobles with magic.

And Varric meet an old friend!Nice to see him getting a bit of life on his own.

What i like the most was on the ship at the end , i really had a pirate /badass feeling going on.And i like seeing Isabella as captain of her ship.

Agree. I liked that we finally got to see her pirating, and pirating well. Also intrigued with Varric having ties to a magister. Plus, she  was cool! I liked that not all magister are obviously evil, even if it seemed to suggest all are corrupt...

I did roll my eyes a few times at some unnecessary bravado, but overall liked the badassery on display.

I also liked that all magisters ain't evil ,R2s Muse. :)

The thing is, I imagined Tevinter to be something else , like a gothic town full of scary relics and mad scientist mages....
My feeling about Tevinter magister is ...ok it's just Orlesians with magic.(I' m sure they're very different ,but it didn't live up to the hype my imagination build.:P)

But i'm looking forward to the next issue ...seeing Seheron , and our giant friends with horns is probably gonna be fun , or bloody.Or both most likely. :)

@reznore57, Orlesians with magic! LMAO That's the perfect description.

I was also intrigued by isabela's little friend... Not too friendly on her part! I'm also curious about Seheron... I immediately heard Fenris's voice in my head saying the word.

Yes , I think Isabella may have a dark path in front of her.
Seems like she had a lot of little secrets.
But she never seems to me like she would hurt people for fun , I think somebody may have cause her harm in the past.
We'll see.But Yeah , this particular sub plot is intriguing.

Agree that she must have reason, poor dear. I was actually surprised by that turn of events so had to scrutinize the artwork a second time to make sure I understood what had happened. The comics so far seem fond of that kind of turnabout in their storytelling.

I have to say that I was not expecting Napoleonic costumes for Tevinter.

Guessing it has to do with Alistair's mega ancestor doing a deal with a demon, or something as equally generic.

Sten did become the Arishok!

I have no idea why he refers to Alistair as "kadan", however.

*Applies Occam's Razor*

It's probably an error. Oh well, I can overlook it.
