Most of the Bioware comics (for DA and ME) have been terrible so far. .

Yup.

The DA one had some bizarre art and was pretty boring. The ME ones have taken one of the cooler characters of ME in TIM and made him a mustache twirling villain.

Hasn't BioWare learned that this alternate universe stuff isn't that great? See: Darkspawn Chronicles.

And lastly...if there is this whole world of Thedas why limit it to a handful of characters? If each game is going to have a different protagonist then why not also follow suit and have new characters to expand Thedas in other media? After all haven't the devs stated they wanted to explore Thedas more? Kind of boring, imho, if seen through the eyes of the same people all of the time.

I agree. There are more ways to explore Alistair's past than having Theoretical Alistair do it himself and screw with our fragile little minds in the process. But maybe once we see the comic we'll find that this is the only way the story could be told. I've enjoyed Gaider's writing in the games and the novels, so I don't doubt that the comic's story will be worth the weirdness.

There was alot of chocies in DAO and DAO gave a fantastic illusion but in the end, choices ment nothing since it always ended in the same outcome. Archdemon dies. Let's compare this to say TW2 which choices do have a meanning, There is so many outcomes it's not even funny.

And what other outcomes would there be if the Archdemon didn't die? I mean, besides the destruction of all mankind.

I don't care if this is considered canon/default or something, I think it's an awesome idea!

I always wondered how it would be like if Alistair and Isabela went on a journey together. Hope Isabela mentions the events on the Pearl^_^

With these three characters, the levels of Snark should be pretty incredible.

Bwahaha! Yes. I couldn't be happier about this. I can't wait. More Alistair as written by David Gaider can only be a good thing and fun as hell. This is fantastic news.

Not Sure about this. Not sure i like the idea of the cannon being set, and it'll likely step all over over my game (as if they would canonize the Warden as a woman).

I also don't like DAO characters mixing with DA2 characters. Sure Allistair was in DA2, but in my game only for a tiny part and only with Hawke. I think of DAO as a seperate entity, and this is tramping on what i had in mind for my ending in DAO.

I'm with the supporters... Alistair is far too awesome a character to be just parked on a dusty shelf somewhere, his gush thread is still going strong.

Isabella, I know many don't like her, but I do (and I already paired them up, temporarily, in my FF) and Varric is, well, the best.

I welcome the prospect of witty snark dripping of the pages.

Wait, I was so happy about Mark of the Assassin! Why ruin my perfect nerd day with news about a comic that will probably retcon my game?

Also, this is exactly what I thought:

I guess Isabella didn't stick with my Hawke afterall. That's.....disappointing.

I really don't mind. It would be a shame to waste interesting storylines just to respect the many, many canons of players.

I hope they use the GB somewhere too.

I don't like this new at all. They should focus on making more story driven DLC for DA2 instead.

It's so non-canon, I see no reason for it's existence..

The lore, locations, new characters and things like Alistair's little secret or the dragon stuff is canon. As such, plenty reasons for it to exist.

I guess I'm just most curious about how they deal with or mention the Warden. Obviously this is BioWare's canon, but will all of these ancillary products build off of the default "Hero of Ferelden" import choice in DA2?

"Hero of Ferelden" (Default): A young man from a noble family rose to become a Grey Warden, then ended the Fifth Blight by killing the Archdemon himself–-and surviving. He always strove for the greater good, and placed his friend Alistair on the throne of Ferelden.

Cause with characters like Alistair whose standing in the world is heavily tied to the Warden, it would be very hard to have him in a story, potentially hunting a Witch of the Wilds, without even mentioning the Warden one way or another. So will they just roll with a Cousland Warden that did the DR or will they just leave it ambiguous who the Warden was?

Probably not. The "Hero of Ferelden" has the "Shale followed the Warden" flag set to 0 (not true), which means Shale is still a statue in Honnleath I guess? But Shale is in the upcoming novel.

I'll be surprised if they mention either Hawke or the Warden in any detail. You could just have Alistair talk about Morrigan and give you the needed info on her and Flemeth without ever bringing up the Warden. At best they might mention the Hero of Ferelden without going into any details about him/her.

As it's Gaider's canon, I'm happy to see his take on DA and the characters of Isabela and Varric. Here's to hoping the comic will be better than previous Dragon Age and Mass Effect stuff.

It'll be interesting to see what canon David Gaider goes by for this.

I believe he explained after Asunder was announced was that the book would establish it's own canon of events. I expect this comic series to do the same

Not necessarily -- you can either tell Shale to just go away after you wake her up, or there's possibility someone else activates her when the PC didn't.

I´ll probably get it, but I wish they didn´t use characters who can have a deep relationship with the PC. Alistair will at best be vague about the Warden even if she is his wife. Same for Isabella, unless the comic takes place while she´s still in the "anything that moves" phase (at least this fits well with the only Hawke I´ve finished so far). The Asunder book probably will be the same with Wynne.

Off-topic, but how can I see the flags? I want to know how the DN background did, as it seems one that would take choices I won´t in any playthrough.

So then even though the Warden doesn't bring Wynne and Shale together, they somehow end up together anyway?

Considering how Anders and Justice somehow ended up meeting each other...

This would mean only writing about characters that most people are less interested in reading about--not a very good way to get a large readership. Personally, I'd much rather read something that differs from my personal canon--which is just one choice among many, after all--than have them never revisit popular characters and expand on their stories.

I think the ME novels had the right idea, if not the best execution. Have some very supporting characters in common and use main and supporting ones for the books. It depends also on the character, Anderson or Malak (KotOR comic) are easier to use than anyone with a multile choice ending or a world view who can be changed by the PC. Hardened or unhardened Alistair? If king there should be a noticeable personality difference.

Or they could stop pretending player choices matter and have fixed events for everyone. Considering DA2 and ME2 e-mail continuity, there wouldn´t be that much difference.

Aye, I will read it for what it is: As a nice addition to the lore. (I did the same with the books, btw) As for the rest, I have my own precious canon, know what happened to my Warden and Alistair and simply do not care for Bioware's own one *shrug*

Ignorance is bliss in this case.
