He wouldn't be successfull. Merrill respects Hawke for accomplishing lots of stuff, Carver only knows how to follow.

The pairing of Bethany with Sebastian seems no more illogical than my mage Hawke friendmancing Sebastian and becoming a Chantry sister. Clearly Sebastian is able to see past the mage and appreciate the person - good for him. Since he doesn't really want to be a prince, I doubt the political suicide would bother him much. It is noticeable in MoA that he reflects that the rulers only have themselves to blame if alienage elves are turning to the Qunari. Once he gets over the immediate shock of what Anders did, I think he is fair minded enough to concede that mages have had a pretty rough deal too. He certainly didn't disagree with mage Hawke when she said she didn't think Andraste would want her Chantry turned into a prison and torture chamber as they stood in the Gallows. If most of my Hawkes aren't interested in a romance with him, then a Bethany/Sebastian romance has my blessing.

However, I would have appreciated my Hawke, who is in a romance with him getting as much of a reaction as Bethany does in MoA. Every other love interest expresses some form of concern and relief at their rescue but from Sebastian - nothing, and we're meant to be spiritually married! (You'd think they could have fixed the romance flag by now).

I like these pairings, and it's good for the characters to have relationships/show interest in people other than Hawke.

With the sibling ones, Bethany/Sebastian is so adorable, and I rarely romance Seb. It makes even more sense if Bethany goes to the Circle, because it seems to increase her faith in the Maker. They both have that "kind, religious person" thing going on. And it's good for Beth to get a little attention.

Same with Merrill/Carver. I thought she was oblivious to it in Act 1, but MotA makes me think she's teasing him too. It's nice seeing a sweeter side to Carver (seeing as Hawke rarely gets to see that), though it's funny he gets iffy about mage stuff with Hawke, but when it comes to Merrill he's all bashful.

I would assume that if you did not romance either, Fenris and isabela's hook-up still occurred even if you did not hear that particular conversation.

The absolute dumbest hook-up in the entire game; Fenris totally flips out the first time Hawke sleeps with him, to the point where he ends the relationshp for three years.  But in an alternate universe he jumps happily and casually into Isabela's bed?  WTF.

The consequences of Carver/Sebastian flirting too much with Merrill/Bethany would, if I had my way, be quite painful. Probably moreso in Sebastian's case. I'm disgusted by both concepts.

I think it's to do with the emotions. He's in love with Hawke, but is just friends with Isabela. So the idea of being close to someone emotionally freaks him out, but casual sex doesn't. I think that's what it is, anyway. *shrugs*

See, this is the problem. While some people may approve of some inter-party rlationships, we all have ones that we don't want to see.

And those people who are against it need to suck it up.
Boohoo, your virtual waifu is ****ing someone else in another player's playthrough.

Deal with it.

Not much different from "boohoo my virtual waifu can be in a s/s romance in someone else's game!'

AMIRITE?

Oh wait...you complain abou that all the time!

I do think it's screwy that Merrill appears to be an eternal virgin if you don't romance her (I tend to ship
Merrill/Mahariel for this reason alone, I need no others). But I don't think the answer is to hook them up with other party members.

I do always romance Merrill, but I doubt she'll remain an 'eternal virgin' if Hawke doesn't romance her.  If I didn't romance her, I'd probably ship her with my Dalish Warden too.  But I imagine it could be with someone else...I don't worry about it, really.

Anyway, similar things can be said about the other companions...I could say that Anders/Isabela/Fenris will never find 'true love' unless it's with Hawke which can be just as 'screwy'.

I think NPC hook-ups are a good idea, possibly even great. However i think i'd like to see companions improved upon in general, before Bioware go "in-depth" with NPC romances.. Having characters with depth, that evolve through-out a game, i put as a higher priority. ^_^

I agree, though I'd be nice to have our cake and eat it too. :3

I don't know if I can get behind Carver/Merrill. I've only one complete playthrough and he never stopped being a jerk. Though that doesn't mean it couldn't happen. Part of what makes relationships interesting is how they develop. Not everyone is meant for each other and sometimes opposites do attract. Those cases either get ugly and clash or the individuals are both enriched because their significant other brings something into their life that they did not have-- perspective, knowledge, insight on ideals they wouldn't otherwise be open to...which leads to it becoming both a relationship and character building experience. So though I don't 'ship that pairing I am interesting in how something like that might evolve.

What I really want to see? Someone for Varric. Come on. We know he's not into humans, so we could assume a fellow dwarf. Someone that would have to rival Bianca of course. Likely, someone with a lot of moxie, who manages to catch him off guard, or make him speechless. I can only image what such a person would be like. But goodness... the HILARITY. I see it having the potential to rival Aveline and Donnic's romance. And besides, he's like Hawke's best bud, he needs somebody!

Uuuuuh, I'd definitely liked to see Bethany and Sebastian together.

Though I think my DA3 PC will get a little jealous...
