Heh clearly I should stick to modding, poetry might not be a strong point Posted Image

This is going to be the next part of my series. It will weigh in at three to four hours long and will a bit of a change from the mods to date. It won’t be popular with everyone but I want to build it so here it comes.

In From This Comes Strength I offer you Solace as the player character, she has been in the series since the start but only majored in Caravan Club. In the end you can play whoever you want but the role play will be based around Solace who is spiky and aggressive, vengeful and focused. She is also fiercely loyal, has a good sense of humour (if a touch on the dark side) and capable of much good, though she achieves it in her own way.

The mod takes place at the same time as Dark Days of Waiting and through Solaces eyes you will see what is happening in Thunder Bay while the PC is away.

In the end it will be optional, all will be explained at the beginning of the last mod if you choose not to play this one.

Anyways, much of the early action take place in Lielon and for the most part I have that built so here are the first screens taken from “From this comes Strength”

There will be more ...

I'm waiting to see this one, it looks interesting, but I thought it would be a prequel. Count me in for the testing if I have time.

Did you use a barricade to create the retaining wall?

So, I read the notice above, treating it like ad copy, I guess. And I'm thinking, "Holy CRAPoly, I think I want PJ to do my marketing for me," and then I read:

Heh clearly I should stick to modding, poetry might not be a strong point

And my brain sort of stops, buzzes and clicks a few seconds and then smoke begins to emanate. Logic Error! Logic Error!

PJ, I don't know if it's poetry as most people think of it, but that was damn fine ad copy. The words in red, when read by themselves says: Burning To Fight! And the imagery is definitely poetic in nature and the tempo, mood and rhythym of the words, I can just hear this deep baritoned old man, like an ancient storyteller saying:
Listen well, dear friends, listen well. I tell ye now a tale ye allye heard time and time again since you was young'ns. Most of ye's knows it by t'other name, though I 'spose many allye knows it by this'un as well like. I call's it: From This Comes Strength...

And then I'd simply hear that bit of ad copy being intoned by that voice, rhythymically, chanting it, really, like a Bard would to retell a tale, known only by oral tradition. A Seanachy or Senachem or a Skald. That would be amazing. I thought your opener was GR-R-R-R-REAT!

Just so you know. I believe I'm a damn fine silver tongued devil, when it comes right down to it. That said, allow this humble wordsmith to congratulate you on an immediately compelling, evocative and mood setting opener! I think you need to get Skunkeen to read that and slap it into an opening VO/Cutscene animation of the teller of the tale sitting in a tavern, a fire behind him and a crowd in front. It would be AweSome!

We are our own worst (or harshest in most cases) critics when it comes to expression in writing. Just don't sell yourself short in that department, either. Don't get big headed like me, you know, 'cause ya can strings a few wordses tagetha an' git sump'n tolt in a story.

Great Job and I'm looking as forward to this one as I have all the others.

I agree with dunniteowl's assessment.

Also, I am game to playtest should my gaming rig be back in working order when the need arises.

Since you are calling your poetic skills into question, I feel I should assure you that you are ahead of the game:

---

I want a new rig
One that won't waste my breath
One that won't always crash mid game
Or give me the blue screen of death

I want a new rig
One that won't overheat
One that won't make my characters die
Or make the AI impossible to beat

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel leet when I'm ganking you
When I'm ganking you

I want a new rig
One that won't fail
One that don't cost too much
Or make me wail

I want a new rig
One that won't go away
One that *will* keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel leet when I'm ganking you
When I'm ganking you
I'm ganking you baby

I want a new rig
One that does what it should
One that won't make me feel too bad
One that won't make me feel too good

I want a new rig
One with no doubt
One that won't always lag too much
Or make the screen freak out

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel leet when I'm ganking you
When I'm ganking you
I'm ganking you
Ganking you you, yea, yea

---

With apologies to Hewy Lewis.

It's one of the lean toos scaled a bit to match the earth slope :)

If it were me, I would have said that I got that program that flips placeables on the z axis to work and let everyone beat their heads on the computer trying to figure it out..... good thing PJ isn't evil....

The rotting boat in the foreground was harder to do, though perhaps it's easier to spot what it is.

I started using fence posts but the were to regimented. In the end one of the burnt rural houses had enought burnt posts above the main structure of the house to be useful. The keel section in the foreground was done the same way.

An adventurer has to have a roof over thier heads.

This is the PC I offer you and that, in the background, is home.

So is the player required to play that PC?

In theory, yes you have to play as Solace, though from what PJ was telling me it will be optaional. You could play a PC of your choice but all the dilaouge would be written for Solace so it could be a little odd :D

No doubt PJ will explaint better than what I can.

I think I would like to see solace as a burly half-orc wench.

The module is optional, meaning that you can complete the story arc without playing it, but it's designed with Solace in mind as the PC. I think that's how it works, PJ correct me if I'm wrong.

Well, I guess you can mechanically use a different PC, but it wouldn't make sense.

Yeah the mod is optaional but so is playing as Solace, at least that's my understanding from what PJ and I were talking about the other day. As I said he'll explaine it better than I can :)

You have the right of it gents, the mod is optional in the overall story arc. It explains a lot about the things you have missed during the current mod and what has come before but I will put all that in a letter for the PC as the beggining of the last chapter so they will not miss anything.

The character you play can be anyone you want. It is written for Solace though, you will have conversations with people you know, and they will treat you as if they know you and refer to past events.

Solace has burns on 60% of her body, she has fingers missing and what is left of her is scarred like the cutter in planescape. This is reffered to as you might think, she has things to do to right what she believes are wrongs commited against her. That is where the story comes from. So any charcter you take will be presented within that strong framework.

I wanted to write a ranger specific module so the skillset I will call on will be that of the ranger.

If you want to pay a half orc bardic wench called Mary, go with it. There will still be roleplay for you to work your character into and the plot with flow along if you are Solace or not. I know this wont appeal to everyone but I wanted to do a class specific mod and this seemed the best way. It was going to rogue but I did not want to go head to head with Kamal_Posted Image

Thanks for the interest guys, I hope to balance the downsides with doing a good, playable module.

This sounds very interesting, one thing that springs to mind is that if you put all your mods together as a campaign it could be a big problem. Simplest thing to do would be leave it as a stand alone mod and stick in a "Before you head off to ..... have a look from Mary Crotch-Biter's ( sorry couldn't resist it ) point of view, save your game etc " option.

I've got a couple of assassin's in my module that I thought about doing this sort of thing for and you could have been one or the other (male/female) but that was to be a completely separate mod and not coming in the middle of another. I salute your intrepidness and wish you well.

Tsongo.

That's pretty much the way I am going with this. It will be completely stand alone but I will prompt the player on the order of it at the time.

As for a half orc named Mary Crotch biter ... I find the name a touch unsettling Posted Image
