I was recently given Dragon Age 2, ok well actually i was given it some time ago but i've reached a lull in my gaming and im planning on giving it a go.
My question is, do you think that i should purchase and play Dragon Age: Origin first?
Am i safe to presume that it's similar to Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 where choices carried over into the sequel?
Also I play on a PC (Win7 x64) I've heard that DA:O has issues with that platform, would that impact significantly on the game play?
Thanks in advance.
Should I play....

I don't have a P.C, so I can't comment on that. However defiantly go with origins.

I would recommend playing Origins first, though it's not a requirement.
Many people, places and events from Origins are referenced in DA2, and you'd have a better understanding of why they are relevent if you started with Origins first. Also, since Origins is the first game of the series, it would make it the better entry point. You can then import your decisions to DA2 and have your actions reflected, although nothing major happens as a result aside from some side quests being available or unavailable and certain characters making cameo appearances and making comments depending on actions done by the "Hero of Ferelden" in the first game.

Yes, I'd recommend buying DAO's UE. Just like I wouldn't recommend reading book 2 of a series before reading book 1.
I know on my desktop DAO didn't like my AMD Phenom or HD3870s. Something caused it to crash way back when in a certain Wilds. Probably has been fixed.

Don't play Origins because YOU'LL LOVE IT & end up leaving DA2 on your dusty shelf
Well, if you're story wised: Origins
combat wised: 2
Yes, your choices from Origins will be carried to DA 2. If you want a full pack of choices, take Awaking too while you're at it (which I won't suggest)
