Rang Customs and after a long conversation. They say I cannot import the M-8 Avenger..

They won't allow the import of a (very obvious, IMHO) sci-fi prop?  Which country is this, just out of curiosity?

Well, I don't know if there was ever much of a time when customs where not a sharp pain in the rear region, but with the state of the world lately, it's taken a bit too far. It would not take a great deal of effort to clear the replica as just what it is, a non functioning, Replica, of a non existent weapon. However this is a real issue for collectors, has been for years, several major companies that sell high end replicas don't even offer the option to attempt an international shipment, it's domestic only. At least with this, if you choose to risk it, you can.

Are lithographs coming out this month? I can't afford the M-8 and the lithographs.

In September Domino said 'beginning of next month' for lithos, so who knows...

I don't get why they force 2 day shipping on this thing. The only thing I ever do 2 day on is Amazon Prime orders.

The whole sci-fi prop in customs is stupid too. I wonder if the film industry has to deal with that too, for on location shoots.

Dunno.  I get next-day with Amazon Prime, which seems curious since the UK usually gets worse deals than elsewhere; not that I'm complaining, mind!

I'm quite surprised as I've imported several actually lethal objects with no fuss, such as swords with really sharp edges and stuff.  I thought UK customs were bad, though they seem to mostly be interested in making sure people pay the right amount of tax...

Lol...shipping for me is 16 bucks which comes to a total of $666.... Is that a bad omen? LOL

Edit:  I didn't pick a shipping method...and it let me get all the way to the "review and submit" without having to put one in and keeping shipping at 16 dollars...now I can't spare the money to buy this (or I would in a heartbeat) so I obviously haven't submitted it yet...just saying guys...

I got an error when I tried to do the shipping at $16, so I don't think you can get shipping at $16.

Anyone from the UK intending on buying this. Do you think it will get through customs?

Ask Vometia Raven, they intend to buy it. Also, i think Forbidden Planet will stock it. Its more expensive to buy through them, but it might be a better way to avoid a hefty customs charge...

Just checked forbiddenplanet, thanks for the tip. Will probably buy through them. Seems too pricey for the gamble of customs.

Yeah, import duty & VAT could add about £150 to the £500 you'll pay for the M8 and shipping; Forbidden Planet charges about £50 more than Treehouse (including shipping) but I'd consider it to be quite a high risk for being peered at by customs.

Tried one of those customs calculators earlier and it said it would be just over £100 for import/VAT, not sure how much you can trust them though.  I'd decided against getting it anyway, but now that Forbidden Planet are selling it... I don't know!!

There'd be some duty to pay on it at that price too, though I couldn't find the exact rate; I assumed a middling one of about 8% which is how I ended up at £150 (well, £148) once VAT is added on. Naughty customs calculator not warning you about that! Of course it could be zero rated... but it seems unlikely. And unless it's HDNL delivering it, you'll also have the usual suspects opening every parcel that goes through their hands to see if they can get their pound of flesh, so that'll be another £20 (give or take) unless you're prepared to do some serious arguing to get it back...

Buying stuff within the UK is often much easier!

Ah yes, I'd forgotten about the ridiculous carrier charge too... If I do get it, I will definitely get it from forbidden planet, I now just have to decide whether the cost is worth it, or whether everytime I see it I will think "£550!".

I just love the way you have to pay VAT on the duty as well. As far as I'm concerned, it has a negative value!
