Platform: Windows 7 Ultimate
CPU: Intel® Core™2 Quad  CPU   Q8200  @ 2.33GHz
Clock Speed: 2325 Mhz
Phys. Memory: 3.99 GB
VRAM: 896 GB
Graphics Card: Nvidia Geforce GTX 260 (Driver Version 8.17.12.8538)
Sound Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio (Driver Version 6.10.0.209)
DirectX 11

Still experiencing that dreaded sound bug that cuts off all speech at the end of a character's dialogue. On Top of this, all cutscenes have their sound delayed from what is actually happening. This happens all of the time. I have tried looking for any overclocking systems in my BIOS but found none, all drivers should be up to date, and I have been scratching my head at the problem ever since. I have not modded the game in any way, shape or form. If needed, I can provide additional data, just ask ;)

It's still early days for the fall season here to get started. We still have only the very low readership from summertime in attendance, plus you have posted on the weekend, which is somewhat less well populated than the rest of the week.

If anyone remembers what the workaround was, you are in good shape, but the odds are against you right now. Did you try a search using anything other than the horribly crippled on-site Finder function? If needed, when using Bing, Google, or Yahoo, add the following site redirector:

Is this a common problem? I used to play ME2 on a system with the same sound card with no problems at all. I haven't tested it recently because it's in my old (and somewhat broken) PC and I still have to perform the transplant.

Did you try the switch to onboard audio (if possible) to see if the problem is indeed sound card related?

Personally, I cannot recall which games I'd heard of (read about) the symptom from, but I also use Creative's audio products myself, although not the one named by our OP, and I didn't experience this. I miss the quality of memory I was served by for most of my life, and probably more than hair loss, more than arthritis, I regret the lessened memory more, about getting older, than all the rest.

See, thats the problem, my computer does not detect what drivers my motherboard's sound card needs, therefore, I had to buy a new one. Found this sound blaster, hooked it up, and then I find it making my mass effect sound screw up.

I've searched a lot on these forums. Many say to turn off overclocking in my BIOS, but that isn't the problem. And almost everyone with this problem has a creative sound card.

Don't blame me if I get it wrong, but somewhere in Windows is a place, I think, to adjust settings for audio processor acceleration, unless it's in the game itself. I have a vague bit of a tingle of memory it may be related, so read more from the archives to determine if I'm right or wrong.

I did not find it in the mass effect 2 config section. Perhaps its in coalesced.ini?

This is for XP, but should be similar under Vista and Win7
Windows Control Panel -> Sounds and audio devices -> Audio Tab -> Performance Tab
Adjust the hardware audio acceleration tab. It varies from machine to machine to exactly where you can have it.

Found this in another forum:

Microsoft removed hardware acceleration in Windows starting with Vista.
So unless coalesced.ini has it (which im guessing it doesnt), can't do anything there.

Sadly, half the things mentioned there I do not have, the rest I have tried, but to no avail still.

Check the coalesced.ini, what do you have listed under these settings?
[ALAudio.ALAudioDevice]
MaxChannels=32
UseEffectsProcessing=True
TimeBetweenHWUpdates=15
MinOggVorbisDurationGame=20
MinOggVorbisDurationEditor=4
DeviceName=Generic Software

[SystemSettings]
HighQualityAudio=True

[WwiseAudioSettings]
StreamPriorityBoost=30
EnableEnvironmentalAudio=true
EnableObstructionOcclusion=true
ObstructionOcclusionRadius=10000
UpdateEnvAudioTime=0.1
UpdateObsOccTime=0.15
MuteAllMusic=false
OverrideDir=..\\BioGame\\OverrideBundles

Note: the ones listed are for Realtek HD audio thats in my system

Thats what mine reads.

Strange.... I remember setting max audio channels to 64, but now its back at 32? Maybe its not saving/registering properly?

It will reset back to 32 if you open up either the config utility, or the sound options in game. Set the volume levels to what you want, and then go in and change these settings. Remember to backup your coalesced.ini first.
Do it one change at a time, save and test.

MaxChannels=128

UseEffectsProcessing=False

EnableObstructionOcclusion=False

HighQualityAudio=False

Hello,
this solved my problem with my own pc and the x-fi extreme gamer:

You will need the following webpage: http://www.paxyourso...outNoRadio.html

1. Delete all drivers from creative on your pc and all software tools from creative --> system control panel + software

2. Use Ccleaner to fully delete all creative drivers (see PAX Webpage linked above!) and restart your PC

3. Load PAX PCI X-FI Xtreme Driver Vista/7 V3.00 from PAX Website (driver for X-Fi Extreme Audio only!) and install it, then restart your PC

For my PC it worked .. had the same Problem with Starcraft II and Mass Effect 1 with "Sound Hardware Acceleration enabled" .. disabling hardware acceleration solved the problem, but with the PAX drivers everything is okay and i could reenable the acceleration :-)

[Sry for my bad english :-/ ]

EDIT: I have tried using those drivers instead of default ones. Still no effect! I am going to try changing the variables in coalesced.ini now.
