When is the earliest that I can get shapeshifting? I just got the game and I want to make a Shapeshifting mage and I want to make my character correctly the first time. What skills and stats should I get if I want to be a Shapeshifter?

Shapeshifer class sucks in my opinion, since when i tried it, u just don't live long eneugh to hit ppl in other forms, i mean, it seems u still use your mage's AC and hit rating, so u get killed in 2 hits just couse u don't have the armor for it, and u can't cast your own spells in animal form, that and it takes a few seconds to shangeshape... just go AW if u want to melee while be able to cast spells.

the only barley worthwhile form is the swarm of flies thing, and it still sucks pretty bad.

I like the swarm form, but the others kinda suck....once you get master shapeshifter they're all much better and you get overwhelm. Unless you play up your physical stats you're probably not gonna use this much though.

maybe a AW/shapshifter might work, but i never heard anyone tried it(succesfully)

I don't think so. Morrigan takes 15-20 damage in human form and 9-10 in spider form from same enemy.Takrandro wrote...

I modded shapeshifting to be casted instantly, it's really sometimes useful now. When you have low mana for example.

now that would be awsome! makes a big difference! now if u get more health like u get when trapped in the fade. let's hope bioware comes with some inprovments on that.

Personally I'd love to see an alternative to the shapeshifter. Maybe called Spirit-Bound Mage.
Would be an illegal form of magic, like blood magic. And how it works would be the mage deliberately calls a demon/spirit into themselves from the fade, but where normally the demon takes over, the spirit mage can cage the demon's consciousness and just use the demons power which changes the form of the mage to reflect which demon they've spirit trapped.
So, it'd be split into 4 - like any other spell/talent and each one would give you a different spirit you can trap:
Rage (change to werewolf)
Lust (change to succubus)
Sloth (not sure what they change npc's into)
and the last slot could be another kind of demon or a boost to the previous ones.

Rage should be Fire elemental with fire immunity(like the npc are)
Lust i agree on,
Sloth, well, just any big lazy beast with an weakness aura active the whole time.
and the last talent a boost talent like in the SS tree.

I really would see an improvement on the existing shapes stats and have new ones to play around with. I would love to shapeshift myself into a Werewolf, Wolf and Deep Stalker! No the latter would be great as a really fast scout! Using your Rogue to lay painful traps, for then to use your deep stalker mage running around like crazy, drawing the enemy into the traps. I know you could use swarm for that.
Bu I guess the Deep Stalker could have a much better defense, health. I dont quite know.

I have actually had fun running the following party: PC = Rogue~Ranger~Assassin, Morrigan shapeshifting almost 100% of the time and her stats look more like a rogue than a mage, Dog, and Wynn healing; since Morrigan and the ranger pet can't drink potions.
I agree that Morrigan is much stronger in mage form; I just want to see if I can make it through the game using her as a shapeshiftger only. I originally wanted to run Leliana in Ranger mode as well instead of Wynn as a healer, but there would be no healer for the animals, and that just doesn't work with this setup. The plan was to have Leliana using bow, my character dual-weild backstab, and four animals up front; two summoned, dog, and Morg in some form.

i really don't like the vanilla forms...you go from cute cuddly bear n spider to half your guts are hanging out and you have boils everywhere....someone's already made one where you turn into a drake, rage demon, and something else....i forget exactly...
