If people want to make the multiplayer more enjoyable for themselves by "roleplaying", there is nothing in the MP-mode keeping them from it. The option to use your imagination and try to embody the character you are playing is there in more games than you would think.

For instance, many modern FPS-games will most of the time just hand you a voiceless (often faceless) character with a gun (Half-life, portal, Medal of honor, etc.). While some people are content just shooting things (as you've pointed out) some may find the option to use their fantasy to enhance the experience quite enjoyable.
It's like when you were a kid, where you armed yourself with a stick and pronunced yourself a knight before you embark on a killing spree in the kingdom of sorrows, slaying ghouls and gobins and the likes.
I'd guess quite a few Bioware fans can relate to this feeling, that's why we love RPGs so much.

I've never roleplayed in a MP before (mostly because I was too busy getting sniped and teabagged), but if people will enhance this new co-op experience, why the hell not! SOunds like fun actually^_^.

Oh yeah! THAT MAKES PERFECT SENSE! LETS USE MULTIPLAYER TO ROLE PLAY. BRILLIANT!!!!

I don't get you guys. It would be like me trying to roleplay in Call of Duty, or more aptly, Gears of War.

I would pay to see someone "roleplay" in a co-op shootout. That would be the shortest playthrough of their lives. No one wants to deal with some Salarian pretending to be a wizard, or whatever you freaks like to roleplay as.
So g'luck with this idea. Don't say I didn't warn you.

A agree with you, Prince Zeel. How do you roleplay in friggin horde mode? Let's see....you don't. You will be shooting at stuff. With your gun. A lot.

You just have to be creative/drunk enough.

And willing to improv over your headset.

QFT
for the record, were the Kroganpuff girls created by a pyjack dumping element zero into a formula of dust, ryncol, and everything tuchanka?

Unfortunately, it was nowhere near as charmingly poetic.

You know those MK-ULTRA experiments the CIA ran in the 50s and 60s?

Well, it was like that, but with krogans.

And everyone was drunk before the drugs.  And the torture?  Don't get me started on the torture.

A good roleplayer pulls this off. As long as you can select who you team with I can see it. You get home, check your friends list, lo and behold your "squad" is all online. You're team lead, a Krogan battlemaster who fought alongside Shiagur, you put out the call "LZ in TEN MINUTES". A battle hardened Turian replies "My comms link has been acting up, I need 15 minutes!." Your squad tech expert, a young Salarian who only left Sur'Kesh for the first time two weeks ago responds "Ready. Not ready. Doesn't matter, husks won't wait"

People roleplay by giving their characters different motivations and back stories for fighting against the hordes and teaming up with each other, if they have the consistent group of allies throughout the co-op fights they could roleplay them becoming a band of brothers of sorts and if we have chat people will also be able to roleplay by talking for their characters during battle.

Gather round boys and girls, because roleplaying isn't about sorting through your inventory screen to see which gun has the best damage to overheat ratio or choosing between three options for what Shepard says, Roleplaying in its finest is using your imagination and your connection to the world to give you a new experience or even just to project onto your character. I roleplayed while playing Halo:Reach, giving my Nobel 6 a personality beyond what was in the game and in X-blades I didn't like the story all that much so I roleplayed it to be different in some aspects and to give Ayumi a better personality (I also roleplay a douchebag in Pokemon who no one ever listens to)
but then again, you probably are the type of person to tell little kids they're dumbasses for pretending that the hotwheels tracks they are banging together are lightsabers.

I have to disagree that imagination= roleplaying. I also do not agree that changing the narrative or adding to it by mentally rewriting aspects of the character/story is roleplaying. I can wish Shepard is a krogan all I want and to you that would be RP? No. RP is having a character and writng the personality of such through decisions and dilaogue within the universe. That is the key if it is not given to you as the player then inventing things and calling it RP is wrong. If the game does not facilitate RP in of itself then no amount of imagination or reimaging makes it roleplaying. It may enhance the game experience for you and that is enough justification.

I'm sure there'll be at least as much RP-ing as in WoW

So why can't we postpone the whinefest til AFTER the game release and THEN burn Bioware for it?

You said yourself it's a waste of time whining now so why not just play a wait-and-see approach rather than acting like a dick?

Hell yeah.. if you're right about all of this, I'll hand you the fuel for the funeral pyre myself. ;)

I'm frustrated. I've seen a great deal of information on the game, and I don't like what I see.

I was looking forward to this game for a year+ now. And just when it's within reach, some news is dropped that makes the game seem like utter ****. I'm not as optimistic as others and I'm not about to lie to myself to make others feel better.

And your frustration is noted in regards to the "great deal of information on the game" in regards to features like the revamped RPG elements (terrrible job there Bioware) and the less linear level designs (god awful if you ask me :innocent:). Now, you have reached your "breaking point" with the recently announced MP which we know barely anything about besides the fact that it's a MP mode. I mean it's a MP mode in a RPG. It has got to be terrible!

You speak the truth, Prince Zeel. Mass Effect 3 will suck because of Bioware's stupidity of having a TOTALLY different team work on an optional mode using the extra cash granted by EA (which would have never been given to Bioware had ME3 being a singleplayer-only game) and the fact it's a MP mode in Mass Effect.

I mean after ONE mediocre game like DA2 there's simply no way that Bioware can EVER pull if off? Why bother trying? Stupid Bioware... It's better if you be like good 'ol Nintendo where you there's no need to take risks and instead recycle the same old game for the fans! :wizard:

However, in the end, why can't you express your frustration and anger through dignity and respect? Trust me. People will listen if you express your frustration correctly rather than screaming your ears off. Just saying...

I disagree with your disagreeing, but thank you for being polite. I just think that roleplaying can also be an internal thing, such as my Shepard does talk to Garrus more often than in the game, he goes on dates with Tali around the citadel after the suicide mission, he still hates Cerberus but bites his tongue because he knows he has to work with them to save the humans, after the Collectors took his group, he was ready to charge in there guns blazing because no one ****s with his family. My Hawke took Bethany into the deep roads to protect her from the templars and thought that Grey Wardens were her best hope, but still died a little on the inside. Then she slinked into a shell when her mother died and combined with killing the Arishok (since she wasn't going to let Isabella be taken by him) turned her into a more bitter person who used snarkiness and threats as a cover for her pain where before she was genuinely sarcastic and kind (Berserking when Grace kidnapped Bethany).

I respect your approach at trying to "reason" with me. However, the logic you speak of does not work here on BSN.

let me repeate this: Most members here are Bioware droids. They believe everything they say, right up until release. They don't exercise any thought. Their faith in a game corporation borders on insanity. They are great examples of blind sheep mentality that continues to destroy Music, Games, Movies and Television. They believe their jargon, they can't evaluate the information objectively. Thus they will always think of all anti-mp supporters as "Screaming their ears off". Our volume is necessary to pierce the thick fog of delusion.

I will not waste time trying to appeal to them. They aren't going to listen. I've had many posts, where I threw away the insults and just presented my arguments, none of them were able to rebutt them, and instead they continue to chant the same rhetoric "WAIT UNTIL RELEASE"

Let me ask you this. If you're putting together a 100 peice puzzle, and you have say 70 peices. is it unreasonable to guess how the product will turn out? Wouldn't my guess be wholly accurate, as well?

Your deafening volume decreases your credibility for the ones who CAN'T evaluate information and think reflectively.  If you are truly doing it for their sake, then you would step back and look at how you present yourself objectively.

That is not the case. People who want to question Multiplayer are already doing that. The rest don't want to question, they just want to believe really hard.

If you acknowledge the futility, then why keep going?  I don't agree with multiplayer in ME3 either, but you have realize that you aren't going to change anyone's mind, and those who already agree with you are just the choir you are preaching at.

RPing over multiplayer wont even happen. People here aren't even thinking this through. How exactly can you RP in a horde style game? Does this seem plausible? I do not care how deep into your "role" you are. There's no way to pull off RPing when your character is being nudged ever forward to do certain things. Not just by the game, but by your teammates.
