Harbinger doesn't sound like a machine like Sovereign did. More like a guy who's spending too much time with the audio editor.

They sort of backed themselves into a corner with Harbinger.  They wanted it to seem like you were just dealing with the Collector General the whole time until the end when the mask officially comes off (I say "officially" because it wasn't like they went to great lengths to hide the truth).  Thus, they couldn't use the level of vocal processing they did with Sovereign.

Personally, I think that during the escape sequence the voice should have gotten progressively more machine-like, and when we got to the "Releasing Control" line, it should have been almost exactly like Sovereign's in terms of the effects being applied.  Then with Arrival, they could have given us the machine voice post-SM, and the normal one pre-SM.

That would have been genius. Why can't Bioware think of stuff like this?

You know what I'd love? If people would stop implying Harbinger is the leader of the Reapers even though he isn't.

Because Prince Zeel assasinates all intelligent members of Bioware, and then claims "that they are retarded" to hide his true colours.

That'd been pretty cool.

Alas, it never happened. I hope they can fix that in ME3, or focus on another Reaper. Either way works for me.

har·bin·ger
A person or thing that announces or signals the approach of another.

He could just be the messenger.

Proof he isn't?

1. Tasked with controlling the Collectors
2. Appears as the head of the fleet in the final cutscene
3. Speaks to you on Arrival
4. "Harbinger is coming!" Shepard didn't say Reapers, he said Harbinger.
5. Appears multiple times in the alternate ending for Arrival (rises in front of your squad)

It isn't proof he is the leader, but there isn't much proof supporting he isn't either.

I don't think the Reapers even have a leader. Sounds a little strange for hive minds of that magnitude to let others control them.

Harbinger is just the only Reaper besides Sovereign who has been given a face one can connect him with.

Like Someone With Mass said, Harbinger means "messenger", meaning he handles everything having to do with the galaxy before the actual invasion. Also, it's not uncommon to have the leader of a certain movement  stay in the back of the rest of the forces as well.

Yeah I'd rather the actual Leader of the Reapers be someone new, and Harbinger was just the guy tasked with staying awake to man the Collectors.

I'd still like Harbinger to come back though, if only to blow his smug shell to pieces.

Harbinger? In my galaxy? Oh, yes. He's appearing at The Ice House in Pasadena.

If we're going by names, wouldn't that have made Sovereign the leader? Who would be next in line?

Lots of stuff to cover in this topic...here goes:

1. Harbinger's presentation suffered due to repetition. I have no problem with the Reaper anyway.
2. There's no point in "replacing" Harbinger somehow. We don't even know what role it will play. Every Reaper is important.
3. To follow up on that thought, there's no reason to think Harbinger is the leader. There's no reason to think any other Reaper is the "leader". I think people too often consider the Reapers as if they were any other antagonist you'd see in a work of fictoin. Other people have said stuff already, but they're immortal, all powerful machines. They are completely alien, they have a philosophy guiding them that defies understanding. They're all connected by an existence we don't understand. They don't need a leader.
4. Stop using "he"! They're "it"s.

That reminds me when Shepard called it a he at the end lol.Anyone know if Sovereign was addressed like that?

We're letting EDI get away with being referred to as "she", so I can't see why we can associate Harbinger with a certain gender.

Just make him irrelevant, except for when he dies, then bust out the corny lines as he's getting destroyed so we can laugh at him.

I bet Harbinger puts up one hell of a fight before he goes down and I bet he brings down alot of people with him. In fact if we do end up losing a teammate I wouldn't be suprisded if it happens during the Harbinger confrontation.

So long as the final Harbinger confrontation isn't as retarded as the end of Fallout New Vegas, where you could just talk Legate Lanius out of fight with "speech powers".

If a blue speech option appears in the last fight, I ain't using it.
