I've only recently started playing Dragon Age Origins in depth and have been having trouble in my battle and i am presuming it's because i don't have peoplel to fufill roles for me to succed, so i was wondering what roles each class can perform and what roles make battles easier because i am considering Nightmare and i feel it will be a must.

If you haven't already done so, I suggest you start by familiarizing yourself with the various tactics setttings.

More information about the difficulty settings can be found here.

Tough question. There are so many variables it is hard to give a short answer, but I'll give it a go...

I usually try to keep the team balanced. So I have two frontline fighters and two ranged fighters. The frontline can be any choice of warrior or rogue and the ranged can be any choice of archer or mage.

The frontline should work together, so use the tactics menu to make the frontline watch over each other. Shield Bash and Sword Pommel can be used here.

The ranged characters make life easy for the frontline. So set the tactics menu so that the ranged characters use their talents and spells to support the frontline.

In a nutshell, that is about it. But as I said earlier, it can be played successfully all sorts of ways. This is just my normal set-up. But I have heard of people going with 4 mages.

The trick, however you decide to play it, seems to be in setting the tactics menu so that the team works together.

In terms of actual recruitment of people, such people appear along the way as you play the game.  It is your choice whether or not to use them.

warriors are usually tank, defender in tactice
rogues are usually scrapper,archer
mage can fill in as damager, healer, crowd control or a hybrid and even melee tank if you choose arcane warrior.
your party should have 1 tank, 2 scrapper(1 melee, 1 range) and a healer to make it a balanced party.
but of course, you can also tweak the party composition and tactics to suit your style of playing. there is no hard and fast rule. it depends on playstyle mainly. some prefer mages, some prefer rogue and some prefer warriors. design your party to your playstyle is what make this game interesting.
