I would not be suprised if there was an option to destroy the geth in mass effect 3.

Legion tells us that the aim of the geth is the construction of a dyson sphere, an object which takes the idea of artificial intelligence to a new level.  I can see an option occuring where a renegade shepard might choose to destroy the geth because of a possible 'new reaper' threat which might emerge from the geth in the future.  A paragon shepard would probaly give the geth the benefit of the doubt, allowing them to continue existing.

I was just wondering whether if given the option people would choose to preserve the geth or destroy them

Edit- Im not talking about the geth's usefulnes in fighting the reapers, rather the danger they would pose in a galaxy post reaper-war

Why would it be a "renegade" option to remove a galactic threat?

I can see Paragon choice being "lols second chance" but It's not inherently evil to get rid of some evil robots FROM THE FUTURE.

What if the evil robots from the future were against MP?

I don't think the non heretic Geth are inherently bad. And since they lack the stupidity that the other races occasionally display, I think they'll make some of the best allies against the Reapers. I plan to get them on my side at any cost, even if I have to wipe out the Quarians.

Threat comes from everything. Why didn't the council remove the humans, when they first met them?

I won't kill the geth if I can achieve peace instead. Legion working with us in ME2, and Tali being willing to share data with him/it, proved that they can get along with organics. Besides, they could be useful against the Reapers; I'm sure letting them live will raise our "galactic readiness level".

I think to clarify im on about the fate of the geth in the galaxy after the reapers are defeated, assuming they are defeated of course

There is only one thing I don't understand about geth, what was their problem in serving quarians? What they actually CARE what they do? I don't think that they get tired or need to have fun, so what's the problem of serving somebody? It's not like quarinas made them to destroy them.

Geth are not rogue, not evil, not stupid. Quarians are the bad guys here, not the Geth.

The Geth are valuable allies, like hell I'm letting them die.

I was under the impression they just retaliated in self defense.

Didn't Legion mention something about the Geth taking care of the Quarian worlds for when they returned? Would a reconciliation have any impact on the Geth's long-term goals?

I doubt we'll be making any major decisions after we've already beaten the Reapers. If we were to wipe out the geth, it would be done beforehand.

They don't mind "helping", they don't want to be treated as slaves or servants.

Call them what you want. They were the main enemies in me1, and we saw them sporadically in me2.

Oh yeah, they're real geniuses. They murder anyone who comes near and then wonder why everybody fears, hates, and distrusts them.

Yeah, if the geth are another problem down the road, we'll have to deal with it then, but we need them now, and we'll only have a chance to decide the Geth's fate when the Reapers are still here, so I opt to save them.

The Quarian's actually struck first from what I remember. They realized the Geth were becoming sentient when one asked if it had a soul, and assuming they'd realized they (the Geth) were being used as slave labor, and they'd have a problem with it and rebel, they tried to wipe them out preemptively. While the Geth were cool being used as slaves they weren't cool with death, and fought back.

And yet somehow the Quarian's seem to believe the Geth were in the wrong. They really weren't.

I don't it was ever directly confirmed if the non heretic Geth were the ones destroying anyone that approached and if they were, if they struck first. I don't think its something you can ask Legion during his dialogue trees.

In any case, the geth will be conquered by Daro'Xen in ME3 and she will use them as a force multiplier for the quarians.

That's assuming Daro'Xen can be trusted with them.

Just let them build their sphere so they can stop being a problem.

I won't let Xen take control over them either. Or anyone else for that matter. Such force should not be abused.

Of-course she can. Why would you doubt her? He desires for the geth have been clearly laid out, as have her methods.

Because people with suddenly gained power tend to abuse it. Especially people like the Quarian's who have felt bullied by basically the whole galaxy for the last 200 years. What's to say they won't decide to use their new found army to expand their territory, having a desire to get back at the other races for looking down on them as the sickly wandering hobo species without a planet.

Meh. I'll put a bullet in Daro'Xen myself before I let her take over the Geth. Honestly, the guy is a bit of a jerk, but Zaal'Koris has the right idea about making peace with the Geth. Ultimately, I think the Geth should be left alone to build their Dyson Sphere. After all, if they retreat into the Dyson Sphere, they become even less of a threat than they already are, and the non-heretic Geth aren't much of a threat. Now, if you rewrote the Geth, my opinion changes a bit, but then, I think rewriting the geth is actually the single most morally bankrupt decision in the entire game.

That's childish. Xen is not angsty little kid. She's political leader and already wields power. She wants to help her people. A massive geth army empowering a new quarian state will be a force for stability in the lawless terminus.

We'll need that because after the Reaper war the humans and turians will have been greatly weakened. It will be the start of a new age of lawlessness and terror in the galaxy.

The Geth should build a sphere around a Neutron star and put a moon-destroying laser on it.

To be fair, the Council totally screwed the Quarians. >_>

And the Quarians have, what, a population of 15 million?  Geth forces may be expendable, but to start a war against the Council would almost certainly result in another near genocide (Salarians aren't above using diseases or genetic warfare).
