"... multiplayer is something that's a huge undertaking ..."

- Mike Laidlaw, lead designer of Dragon Age II

I'll say this now.
I will not buy Dragon Age 3 and I'm sure that there'll be many many more wont either
if you fully intend to put multi-player in Dragon Age 3.
This is suppose to be a single player game with intense storylines and open options
that took place in the other two Dragon Ages.

I am a huge fan of Dragon Age, I pre-ordered both of them, bought all the DLCs
and other merchandise you guys put out there. Just like other fans who stop
playing certain Fighting games and RPG games due to something as silly as this that you're
considering. This game is suppose to be a personal game. Each to their own and their own to experience.
How can we personally enjoy the game with romance options and judgements with another player involved?
Like Final Fantasy 7 to 10 through 12 to 13-2, they were all personal gaming experience.
Hence why they're biggest names in RPG. Dragon Age Origin to 2 are also huge names.
Dragon Age is the best name and game I adore. This is why I am writing this out.
If I didn't, it would mean I didn't care.

If you really want to make an Multiplayer Dragon Age, make it a separate game.
Just like Final Fantasy XI or XIV. But don't let it invade the storyline of Dragon Age.
Because you'll be so focused on how the game will work together as a Multiplayer game
and scrap out the intensity of the storyline as well as adding it up with other DA's storyline.

All I ask, as a fan of Dragon Age...

Do not make Dragon Age 3 Multiplayer. :(

I have no interest in multiplayer, but I wouldn't stop buying the games if they added it. (All other things being equal.) I'd just treat it like the multiplayer in the Baldur's Gate series and Neverwinter Nights and ignore it.

I mean, given a choice, I'd prefer for the developers not to spend time on multiplayer when they could be expending their zots on something I actually care about. But it's not like they're going to hold a gun to my head and force me to play in that mode.

Agreed.
The only thing I would be okay with is 2 player co-op (ala Fable 2&3).I don't want it to be an MMORPG or a multiplayer just for combat stages.

I wouldn't mind a Gauntlet style multiplayer game. However, it would probably work best as a stand alone project.

Dragon Age 3 should be an MMO.

If Dragon Age does get a multiplayer function in DAIII, then I'm quite sure that I will not buy it.

I don't know about that. If Dragon Age 3 is given the time, money and dedication it deserves...

I mean, they've introduced multiplayer to Mass Effect 3, but they were smart about it, having it done by a seperate team with seperate (Or added) funds and was started at the beginning of development for singleplayer, not just something picked up halfway.

Bioware's Mass Effect Team has proven they can be smart with it... now the REAL question is, can Bioware's Dragon Age Team do the same?

If they go with a similar development cycle as they did with DA2, I don't see adding turning out well unless they farm it out to another company.

I'm not a fan of multiplayer, so like ME3, I would have to talk to some friends and read some reviews hoping that content from the game wasn't sacrificed from the game due to resources spent on multiplayer.

Every month a new "if it has multiplayer I won't buy it" thread pops up... There are dozens of things that'd keep me from buying it, but multiplayer would be the last. NWN1 and 2 only sit on my HD anymore because of the wonderful persistant worlds out there, and if DA2 had something along those lines it might've even been worth the money despite the shallow story. I'd first like to see where exactly the optional multiplayer takes away anything from the main story, other than the usual assumption just because it's there there must've been less developing time for the rest. Seriously, this is childish. A good multiplayer can increase sales and add a lot to the long term fun and replay value, while people only interested in SP get all they want too and can simply ignore it.

Sadly, nowadays multiplayer only means either MMO or some Counterstrike-mode to most people, not the great RP value the NWN-style multiplayer had.

Wait.

Reaaaally, BSN?

Of Mass Effect and Dragon Age, Dragon Age is the game that makes more sense in terms of implementing multiplayer. Hell, the game's set up like an offline MMO to begin with! I'm SO down for multiplayer!

The great built in multi-player support for NWN and NWN2 are the reasons people still play these games to this day. The community have made thousands of modules, Persistent Worlds, class/feat altering mods, models and skins that give the games so much more playability. Multi-player adds more playability to these games, and that in turn makes the modding community stronger, which in turn could inspire more people to make mods including single-player oriented ones.

Hell yes, I would love to see multi-player for DA3, preferably not an MMO but something more similar with Neverwinter Nights. Being able to play with friends is a giant plus in my opinion.

I don't really get the hostile reception towards the idea. Some people seriously wouldn't buy the game if it included multi-player, regardless if the single-player campaign were to be good?

I rather play single player thank you.
That way I can pause the game go to the kitchen start dinner, go back and continue playing, pause the game, eat go back play some more.. yes I love single players no stress of anyone waiting for me or worst.. me waiting for someone also.

For multiplayer bioware need to patch the game more often.. do they have that much resources? if they do..
Why does it takes so long to patch DA games? Why did we lost so many abilities? Like DW/Archmages/warriors archers...
why the poor end of da2? Why the poor interaction with LI? Why oh why bioware re-used the same map? Why kill orsino if sided with him? why kill Meredith if sided with it? Not enough resources to add new end boss?

I'm guessing if the ME3 co-op is a success, then there is little doubt DA will get it too. Hopefully, in the unfortunate event that comes to pass, they at least do it one better by releasing a toolset and an actual quest structure in the Co-op side. A toolset for multiplayer would probably be seen as the second coming by many.

But not me personally. I'd rather they just focus on making the single player game satisfy on every possible level.

I'm personally not going to purchase any more of BioWare's games, but that does not mean I can't enjoy the RAEG from the community. Posted Image

I'm indifferent to the idea of Dragon Age having multiplayer.  Having multiplayer didn't destroy the "Tale of" series so I'm taking a wait and see approach.

I just wouldn't bother playing it because of what they did to DA2.
Don't get me wrong, I truly enjoy DA2.
But if they work on Multiplayer, I know they'll focus on it
and not finish the storyline how they should finish it or could finish it.

I want their complete focus on Storyline and make hundreds of options,
endings, and different beginning. I want it somewhat like Origin but somewhat like DA2.
I want them to focus on what's important and what made Dragon Age great.
Not some multiplayer mode just to catch up to some trend and leaving that time and effort
they could of put into storyline or even DLC.

I don't want to stop playing DA, but I honestly believe if they put that in there..
I wont even bother playing it. It'll ruin my interest and something that turned out so great
went to crap.

Bioware has a whole other team working on the coop for ME3, I doubt they would devote thtat kind of attention to the company's red headed stepchild.

Talk about awkward. The last thing I want is to have the Husband watch me romance my favorite LI in a communal game. Awkward!

Multiplayer in ME3 made sense so I was more forgiving with it. Unless Bioware can come up with a convincing way to implement MP in to the DA franchise, then I don't want it in there EVER.

Why does multiplayer in ME suddenly make sense? There were the exact same topics "MP in ME? I don't buy!" in the Mass Effect section of the boards too, for all 3 parts, every month a new one...
And how much less sense would multiplayer make in a classic party-based RPG that reminds us of good ol' PnP sessions (well, not me, but you get the point....). DA:O was said to have so much in common with Baldur's Gate and NWN, which both had multiplayer, so why does it make less sense than in ME?

I'm having trouble picturing how multiplayer in DA3 would even work. Considering how dependant DA games are on lore and social interactions, what role would extra people play? Would they play an existing companion? A new character entirely? Would NPCs acknowledge them? Would they be able to save their game separately? Too many questions that make this almost impossible for me to wrap my head around.

I can understand how MP would work in ME3; it makes sense. In DA, though...not so much. My initial reaction, though, is BOO. No thank you.

Of course, I'm one of those people that has to try clothes on, because I can't picture them on me, while they're on the hanger. ;)

MP in the form of purchasable DLC extension to the main game.
This way those who don't care about it wont have to pay for it.
