I've tried setting up Bodyguard in the tactics menu for Aveline but she always ends up using bodyguard on herself and never on the intended target. I've tried Isabela: Any and Hawke: Health < 50% but they nada. Is there a way to get it to work? Or do I have to manually cast it everytime? I'm starting to think that it might be a bug.

try a deactivate condition too, like x: health above x% - deactivate: bodyguard

That didn't work either. Looks like I'm going to have to manually do it, that's no fun.

Nope, there is no way to set it up via tactics. The strange thing is that she seems to activate the sustain on herself (via tactics), although it is impossible to do so manually.
