MovieBob did a great video of this sort of thing a little while ago. Still, its just a blurry concept image and not half as amusing as what poses other female leads get, though she must have an outstanding center of balance to keep her feet that close in that armor without toppling over.
The examples presented in the video and even Miranda or Samara, I see people legitmately getting upset over, but I do also believe that Ashley's outfit is not in that league. Is it sexed up - a bit, is it oversexed - no!
As I said, the pose is as bad as one of her idle animations in ME1 and the armors in that game are shapely and sexy, too, though not as much the in-your-face-kind, I admit, but I am perfectly capable of being a perv about them, much more so than in the case of what we argue about, but that is just my personal preference.
I have no problem if someone says they want heavier armor for battle, I am with them on that.
I am just tired of being thrown in with the gamers, who have a "knee-jerk reaction to feminism" for pointing out, that there isn't as much a difference to ME1, (apart from some minor details, like the open zipper at the collar or the heels, that turn out to be wedges anyway,) when you break it down. I support the legitmate critisism, when it comes to overuse of sex in marketing and the media in general.
I see as much a "knee-jerk reaction to the state of the gaming industry as a whole" in the "critique" about Ashley's design, centering around hopeless exaggerations, and looking back at the examples from the video - it could be much worse.
edit: additional thought on Kaidan's pose: It is calm, composed, self assured, two feet on the ground. That is supposed to be attractive/sexy in a man, right, so probably chosen with the same manipulative agenda in mind, though more sublte.
