To start, I will unapologetically state outright that, for DA2, I really did only want a clone of DA:O, but with a new story, new characters, and new areas. So anyone else expressing that idea about me in this thread will just be redundant.
While I personally feel that DA2 is an abomination and a bastardized sequel to one of my favorite games of all time, I'm willing to respect others' opinions when they say they actually enjoyed the changes Bioware made in DA2. Everybody's likes and dislikes are different, and I'm cool with that.
I'm just wondering if it would be possible for DA3 to appeal to people, like myself, who enjoy all the RPG elements in DA:O, as well as those who want a more streamlined game. I realize that some people don't get the same joy I do from customizing my party's armor, or contemplating the value of different non-combat skills when it's time to level up. However, it doesn't seem too far-fetched an idea to make elements such as these optional at the start of the game; essentially, having a more complex mode AND a more streamlined mode.
For example, you could choose at the start of the game whether you want to customize your party's armor, or if you would rather have their armor gradually improve on it's own as you gain more experience. You could choose whether you want your party members to keep their "iconic" appearances, or if you want to be able to change their appearances yourself. (Much like the simple option of choosing whether you want your helmet to be visible or not) You could choose whether you want to increase non-combat skills according to your liking, or have the game do this automatically. (Much like the auto level-up option found in many games)
I realize that putting options like these in DA3 would increase the time need for developing the game, but it already seems like Bioware is going to spend more time on DA3 than they did with DA2. I would say that the streamlining of DA2 got a 50/50 reception, at best. Thus, this would be a way to keep the true fans of DA2 happy, but also win back some of those that are disgruntled. And, to me at least, the idea doesnt seem that absurd. Granted, many people have complained about the new art direction and/or the storyline of DA2, and it WOULD be impossible to make these things optional, but this would be a way to make some concessions to people on either side of this particular issue. It could even give the game greater replay value if someone wants a more streamlined approach as they warm up to the game, but want a more customizable experience for future campaigns.
Just a thought...
