I'm not sure if this belongs here, but I wasn't sure where else to ask it.

In both the wiki and the offical DA2 guide, it states Sebastian's romance cannot be 'completed' unless Hawke doesn't flirt with ANYONE else. However, is this actually true? I've done at least 2 playthroughs as an experiment, where I flirted with everyone I could, but did not actually SLEEP with anyone, and Sebastian still responded quite positively to my flirting.

However, I cannot continue the romance because the blighted game is bugged to the point where his Act 3 Questioning beliefs doesn't show up (I swear, everytime they update this game, it gets worse with bugs, not better), making it impossible to see if the romance can be achieved or not.

That brings to my second point, is there someway to force the game to load the Questioning Belief for Sebastian?

People can respond positively to flirting and yet the romance is "broken". This is why romances can be so frustrating at times, because you think everything is still on track and then way down the line you find that it isn't. I assume that with your Sebastian game have got the the crucial point in either friendship or rivalry to trip the Questioning beliefs as it is entirely dependent on these flags and not the point in the story you have reached, so if you're not far enough advanced it won't trigger and I discovered on one of my run throughs that there is not a lot of leaway with Sebastian if you have been having a mix of responses - someone once said that if you keep insulting Elthina then you can build up a rival situation more quickly.
I would be interested to know if you run through does work because I found it very hard going an entire game without flirting with anyone in the hope of something positive from Sebastian. - did achieve it though.

I'm pretty sure you can still flirt with people.

Hell, in my game I still got Sebastian's final rival romance dialogue despite my Hawke actually being in a romance with Isabela, though I am assuming that's a glitch.  Seb doesn't really seem down with ruling Starkhaven with his bisexual pirate lovers at his side.

Pre-Chantry Sebastian would've totally been down for that.

I miss DA:O relationship bars, at least then I could tell if romance was initiated or not. Urgh.

And the Questioning Beliefs not trigger IS indeed a bug, it has NOTHING to do with how high or low his friendship or rivalry is.

so true.  i hope they have something closer to what was in DA:O when DA3 comes out.
but my rival romance with Sebastian did trigger QB and the ending was confusing.  when Varric was talking to the Seeker he doesn't mention anything of Sebastian going back to Starkaven. so that confused me and had me believing that i  messed up somewhere.  i don't know.

Thats because Sebastian isn't an actual romance. Not according to game mechanics. At the end of the game Varric will NEVER mention seb. Ever.

My theory was that he was actually made to be a counterpoint to Aveline.  You can flirt extensively with her, mostly in her Act 2 quest.  Yes, she does shoot you down and it goes nowhere, but the depth of emotions Hawke can reveal during that quest is at least as meaningful as the half-assed flirts you get with Sebastian.  (I always pick Sebastian's flirt lines even though I don't particularly like the guy, since they're so sexual it comes off more like a snarky Hawke is trolling him mercilessly.  Making that relationship feel like it's even there would take far more imagination than I care to exercise, but that's for another topic.)

To me, I saw it as this: each gender had 2 full romances and 1 pseudo-romance that went nowhere.  Isabela, Merrill, Anders, and Fenris were the full romances; Aveline and Sebastian were the flops.

Of course, the marriage banter in Legacy with a friendmanced Sebastian throws a wrench in that theory, but I will stand by it until further DLCs shoot more holes in it.

I've tried that, but I can't find the quest for it to trigger.

Also, update. I think I HAVE figured out the mechanics to his 'romance'.

Basically, you can shamelessly flirt around until a certain point, when a romance is 'locked' in. This is usually when characters begin to make comments about you and your LI, e.g. Isabella will have the 'So, you and Fenris/Merrill/Anders' talk or your mother going 'I see how you and that elf look at each other'.

For Fenris, this point is during his Questioning Beliefs in Act 3, when he tells you of his escape. If the conversation ends with him suggesting he wouldn't mind bedding you 'but would leave it for another night', he's locked in.

If you avoid getting locked in, you can still complete the... ahem... 'romance' with Sebastian and get away with flirting with with Fenris or Anders once or twice. Or it did for me anyway, I'm not sure if this is the game just being buggy though, it took FOREVER to finally get a save game where Questioning Beliefs - Act 3 for Sebby finally triggered.
