I hated having to kill all of the Mabari in the game. Why Bioware why?!?! Image IPB

Oh yeah, geez, BW! Give us construct dogs or hell hounds or something! Just stop making me have to kill mabari; that pitiful whining when I stab the poor doggies is killing me!

:crying::crying::crying:

We should start a group asking for hell hounds in DA3. :wizard:

A good thief should make sure all bases are covered, have multiple escape plans, make sure the Duke's vicious (I think Leopold's just tragically mis-understood, though) pet is ill just in case the unforeseen happens.

No, a good player should.

Why shouldn't Hawke do the same?

Because the PC isn't aware of enough to reasonably anticipate the contingencies that would necessitate such advance planning. The DLC established that Tallis was a pretty god-awful thief. Perhaps your PC is uniquely omniscient, but it's a leap and a stretch.

In the playthrough that I poisoned the food I had Leopold (and the Duke) fall almost of the cliff halfway through the battle, gave my party the option to hit them hard without them fighting back. they crawled back onto the platform but it cost them a lot of health.

You can do this several times (I did on Nightmare). Also he can get stuck in the wall on the other side if he rams it hard enough. The final hit was Isabela stabbing him in the tail while his head was stuck in a wall. Poor Leopold.

Using the environment really helped on Nightmare.

If the Tevinters bred the mabari in the first place, it's conceivable that they created another breed of "magical hound" to replace them.

I think the only thing the PC needs to be aware of is that things could go wrong and if they do she may have to face Leopold.  I think that's reasonable.  She's not certain things will go wrong (or that things will go right) and it's more likely the plan will succeed, but if she is the type that wants to cover all the bases just in case, it's not a bad idea to poison the Duke's pet wyvern even though, most likely, it won't be needed.

I didn't really like poisoning Leopold's food - after all it's not his he is owned by the Duke but I did have the feeling that if we got the relic that I thought we were after, that may be he might use Leopold as a sort of gigantic blood hound to track us down, so it seemed expedient to slow him up a bit. Thinking back, he didn't seem as sharp in the second fight as the first time round so may be that was it. For preference I would rather have seen Prosper go straight over the cliff and been able to rescue and liberate poor Leopold but I guess he was devoted to his master in his own way so wouldn't have appreciated the gesture. Forget the scroll, Prosper is monumentally stupid if he hadn't realised that he had a great secret weapon living on his property - not the most tractible of beasts but they are trainable and large. But who knows, may be a future game will see a cavalry of wyvern riders.

Yes it did work if you mixed it and added it to his food then you saw a green sickly leopold instead of a fine killing machine

I think Leo was a special case.  Some people can tame bears in real life, but how many times in history have people tried to use bears in battle?

My issue with this was that there was no reason to poison the food without the meta-game knowledge that you'd have to fight Leopold at some point. The PC has way of knowing that, so poisoning Leopold is really just a pretty dick move.

My Hawke's RP reason was the Duke has a horrible taste in fashion.  My goodness who DRESSES HIM?!?!

Just played this DLC a couple of times in the past week. My Hawke is fully prepared to make Leopold sickly. Face it- you're already there to steal something- if that isn't a dick move I don't know what is. So while my Hawke is generally agreeable and takes the high road whenever feasible she's faced with having to raise enough gold to get into the expedition to make her mark for her family. Tallis mentions several times how incredibly fortified/guarded Duke Prosper's property is- it only makes sense for my Hawke to consider hmmm a whole legion of guards and there's this harnessed pet Wyvern. Let's make sure that doesn't bite us in the ass later. As for pity for Leopold- he's collateral unfortunately- just like all the Ghasts that decide to accost my crew  :lol:

I haven't read all the posts here but you are supposed to get 10 seconds of sluggish wyvern. Huzzah!
