Bit by the by off topic this, but...I downloaded the 3.5Edn game Temple of Elemental Evil
(from gog.com I didn't steal it!)
It's clunkier than the Icewind Dale Series, btw, but nice.
Anyhoo, I note from the manual that each coin
"is worth one tenth of the previous', so "a platinum piece is 10gp, which are worth 100sp, which are worth 1000cp"
Has inflation gone up with successive editions or has it always been thus?
I thought each was worth 100 of the previous?
And are electrum pieces still with us, and what denomination are they?
General D&D economic oddity...present in the NWN world?

It's always been thus.
There have also been bronze pieces, I recall seeing them in one of the AD&D First Quest adventures.

This is talking about the changes from advanced D&D to Advanced D&D second edition.
The system I remember from 2ed was the one above.
100CP = 1GP
10SP = 1 GP
2EP = 1GP // Electrum.-- mix if silver & copper.// Or was it 2 EP for a silver ?
5GP = 1PP // Platinum.

I think that statement may just be worded badly? To follow what Lightfoot said, it could mean...
10GP = 1PP
100SP = 1PP
1000CP = 1PP
I use pretty much the same system in my module, only naming things sovereigns, crowns, shillings & farthings (confusingly). Just 'cos 9 is a pretty nice stack size for 1x1 items like 'coin' items. Though it appears I'll have to expand the max stack size for sovereigns from 9 to 255 to account for those pesky players selling everything.

Me, I like jewels :-) Very handy and easy to hide, er, hold. =)
Though, there's nothing like a couple hundred kilos of gold to slow PCs down so my thieves can catch them...
