Pretty much what the title says. I'd like to know if there's any way to change the name after a character has been created, through the save editor or whatever.

You could always just RP your Hawke's parents were haters~

More seriously, if you open the save file with gffeditor, in the branch savegame_playerchar there's field named savegame_object_name which seems to store the PC's name. Dunno if it works if you change it, and if you do then you'll probably need to rename the folder to match that, too.

The 1st name can be changed when you create you character at the start of the game but the dialogue is keyed in to Hawke not the 1st name.

It works fine, and actually you don't even need to rename the folder (though I suggest you do, just so as not to confuse yourself). The savegame menu will still use the old name until you've opened and re-saved the game, though.

See, when I try that the edited save just completely disappears when I go to load it.

Are you sure it disappears? I think they're sorted by date or smth, so maybe it just gets shuffled in some other place. Or, on second thought, if you changed the name folder to match the new character name then you might need to hit the 'switch character' button and find the one with the new name in the list?

Yeah, the save just completely disappears from the list. I've switched characters, closed and opened the game up again, no dice. The save never shows up again once I've altered the name through the editor.

in the editor after you change your name do you click on flie and save as?
if not the change will revert back to what it was.

Um, yeah. I do save the changes I made. The effect is that it makes the save disappear.

I just tried this real quick and it worked for me.

I opened the save, found the 'SAVEGAME_OBJECT_NAME' field (16255) and changed the name...saved that.

Then I saved the file (I just saved over the old one) and I could load it with the name change reflected in game.

I didn't change anything else. It's odd it disappears. Is the save still in your MyDocuments/DA2/Characters folder?

Yeah, the file is still there in the physical folder and everything. I've tried it multiple times and the save just refuses to show up in the game once I alter it. If I try to open the altered file in the editor it says it isn't supported even though it is still a .das. I've used the editor successfully a bunch of times to do model swaps and extract Hawke head morph info and stuff, dunno why it isn't working now.

Nevermind... it decided to work all of a sudden. Don't ask me how or why because I have no clue, lol. :?
