Dpending on if Garrus and Tali died in ME2. we may be looking at only three permanent teammates on the Normandy and at least one of the three (VS, Vega, Liara) will die and I'm guessing that it's Vega. In other words, we're getting the ME1 LI's shoved in our face agaisnt our will and may only have two after the first half of the game with an occasional character popping up for part of a missionn who's most likely to die at the end of it. This is beyond lame.

Dunno what's your problem - you can only get your M2!LI killed if you forget to buy proper upgrades for the Normandy or pick the wrong character for a specific task. Means if you have a thing for Garrus, you simply shouldn't use him as tech specialist - he'll get killed. If half of your team isn't loyal, they most likely get killed while holding the line.

You won't get ME1!LI "shoved in your face". You can keep up your ME2!LI. Just keep them alive.

As other people have said before, I'm happy with unscripted deaths. As long as shepard have some measure of control over who dies. But scripted deaths just to evoke strong emotions in the player is going to be annoying.

The LOTSB did set up Liara as a close friend of shepard even for those who never took to that character from ME1. If bioware ever pulls a cheap and dirty, my money would be on Liara.

Indeed. Liara is the only (!) character besides Joker that is guaranteed to make it to ME3. Any other characters on board of the Normandy, that also includes Shepard, can die.

The VS? Either Ash or Kaidan will die on Virmire. The survivor (VS) will make it through ME2, but it's unlikely s/he's going to play such an important part in ME3 like Liara, since the writers have to write two different story arcs for each VS. I hope Ashley will have a DIFFERENT story arc and DIFFERENT lines than Kaidan.

Wrex? Can die on Virmire.
Garrus & Tali? Can die in the SM.

So the only character of the original Normandy that makes it through the series to ME3 is Liara - lets ignore Joker since he's not a squadmate.

In other words, we got Garrus and Tali shoved in our faces the entire franchise against our will. This is beyond lame. Not to mention, it's guaranteed we will not have only 3 party members in worst case. There's Prothy, and most definitely other new squaddies as well.

Makes up for the other LI's *shoved in our faces* during ME2............. gain some perspective, it's a wonderful thing.. the world and his wife don't see the world through your eyes..........

You appear to be assuming a lot.  You know what happens when you assume, right?  Why would you do that?

The funny thing is all we've heard so far appears to indicate the exact opposite of the OP is trying to convey. I'm not really sure there will be any face-shoving work, because it's been stated so many times that no one is "permanent" this time around. That is to say that the squadmate mechanics won't work the same way as they did in ME1 and ME2, which naturally implies a fundamental difference lying therein.
