Take the krogan?  After that little hissy fit he just had?  Haha, no.  Quarian, pffft, too wimpy.  Asari?  Please, we need a soldier, not a librarian.  As for the turian... how about we let Shepard handle the angsty little cowboy?  Yes, I think I'd rather have a qualified combat specialist with adequate field experience who won't go apesh*t and compromise the mission, thanks.

1 Salarian who would probably be hated for killing an alien race if he were a human.

vs. 6 humans (sorry Jacob) who are complex, well-developed, imperfect (read: realistic), controversial, and ultimately: interesting.

Anyway, I think for Kirrahe makes the most sense bringing Ashley or Kaidan. It's a military operation. Shepard is in the military, like Ash and Kaidan. Wrex, Garrus, Tali and Liara are not. It's ok for Shepard to trust them, but not for Kirrahe.
If I were in the military and I'm facing such choice, I would like people in the military for the task, not friends, buddies or whatever of someone I barely know.

People just want another chance to kill characters they don't like.

I had a thread about this that lasted 100 pages.

The less real drama people have in their lives, the more they want it in their video games.  The more they have in real life, the less they want it in games.

Just go play ME2 and send your goons to their deaths. Honestly every character has their own redeeming qualities, and killing off characters just means more missed content when you play ME3.

But what if James Vega is a total herpitydooda derp?

I'm not wishing anyone dies, I want everyone to get out of the war unscathed, but if someone has to die it should be an alien squaddie since the only madatory death in a human squadmate on Virmire.

This doesn't make sense to me,  but,  I'm one of those people who don't particularly care that Liara is invincible.
