Wow...

This explains alot.

This doesn't make sense to me,  but,  I'm one of those people who don't particularly care that Liara is invincible.

because it seems as though the humans get the shaft in the games and on the BSN. People are quick to write them off (hell and article about their outfits starts with "does anyone play with ashley or Kaidan in either game?" and calls them "lesser humans" ) Tehy're the only mandatory death, wrex's is optional, Garuss and tali's are optional, and Liara's got plot aror thicker than a reaper shell so at peak performance the only person to ever die during the course of two games is a human. So I'm saying if someone absolutely positively has to kick the bucket in ME3 I'm hoping it's not the VS because then what's the point of keeping them alive so that they can be kept on the sidelines to avoid optional death only to have a mandatory one in the final installment of Shepard's arc which would be messed up because the survivor is possibly your loer since you have to save them to romance them. does that help?Image IPB

I get your reasoning,  that's not exactly the issue I'm having.  I really just think it's funny that people are using race as a reason for or against the death of a character.  I can't help but find it amusing...

I was lurking in that thread for the giggles. Honestly this forum is almost as fun as the game.

I would hate to loose Kaidan, I have been looking forward to his return (is not LI...my manSheps single anyway)....I guess I am way behind on things, is VS being advocated as a plot death?...Then again I really don't want to loose Garrus either.

We've had too bloody many human squadmates already; seven total by this point, plus the all-human ship crew.

And nine aliens. Is that not enough?

yes but the 9 aliens are

1 awesomesauce Turian
1 bubbly quarian
2 butthurt krogan
1 emo drell
2 feisty asari
1 smexy salarian
and
1 fluffy geth
vs 7 dull, drab, boring and oh so common humans

I don't get your point, how can the scales ever balance.

^ This. This is why I prefer the aliens to the humans. They're all so different. :) Except for Kasumi, something about her doesn't bore me like the other humans. Probably that air of mystery and her history.

Just don't kill your squadmates in ME2. It's not hard.

And I highly doubt Vega dies. One, he's supposed to be the new players introduction to the universe. Two, he's likely going to be a S/S LI. Three, I'm 'effing sick of this "humans are booooooring, bring on the angsty aliens!" crap, especially when they're basically humans with a different outer appearance anyways (thanks for that pearl of wisdom, dead Kaidan).

No, that's exactly what they meant. If you do something they don't like they'll leave you. Your choices can get them killed. Things like that. Had he said they're all permanent he'd of been lying because you can lose them.

I don't remember anyone ever leaving my party outside of deaths at the end of the game.  They are essentially permenant outside of what occures after the main stretch of play.   From the sound of it though,  it seems like they are talking about party members who DO NOT stay with you through the whole stretch.  They're there for a few missions and than they are out of play.

It's a completely different thing.  In ME there were none permenant squad members IE Wrex, Kaidan, and Ashley.  But,  I do believe that the staff themselves have suggested that party make up is drastically different than what it was in the first two games.

Human does not equal boring and Alien does not equal cool. Teh aliens have way more problems than the human squadmates and in comparison let them linger while the human squadmates get over their issues. I wish more of the BSN could see this.

Trolling...?

not trolling, casey hudson said something along those line although used less capslock, but he also implied we would have some control over if someone leaves or stays

Ah, hm... do you happen to have a link handy? I've been in the twitter thread virtually everyday almost everyday since it started, with the notable exception of my temporary absence from the forums. I know Casey has stated such words as 'permanent allies defeat the purpose of a galactic war setting', which can certainly be taken in that regard, but I'm also fairly confident he's regarded the confirmed squadmates as 'permanent' all the same.

I don't remember him ever flat-out stating that the folks we've seen tagging alongside Shepard in battle will be leaving at a given point, although letting the player take some control over whether or not Garrus and Tali head off on their own separate wartime paths is an interesting enough proposition with enough flexibility to avoid the rolling of fandom heads.

There's also the fact that a giant rotating wheel of potential squadmates fairly well undermines all those tweets and developer interviews where it's been stated that "the smaller pool of squadmates for ME3 has given us the opportunity to grant much more party member banter than ever before."

It's also not always true, for the record. I have way too much drama in my life. I usually do. And I don't actually want it either. But I want drama in my stories because it makes me feel for the characters and the world more.

"The story of Mass Effect 3 is a lot more authentic to a war
story. So people are wrong to think, “Who are the permanent squad
members?” Permanent friends in a war story betrays the concept! So we
will be adding people and taking people away" and I think in one of the video interviews he says something about how are choices could cause squadmembers to leave (i'll get looking for that one), and this tweet "The assumption of "rotating squadmembers" (no choice) is inaccurate." implies we'll get a say on whether they leave or not

Ah, thank you. You basically went over some of the things I've already read but painted them with a new light -- but I needed that new light. I see what you mean now. Not totally convinced that he isn't moreover handling damage control concerning the plethora of ME2-introduced squadmates who won't actually be jumping back onboard the Normandy though; it might sound like nothing more than raw stubbornness but until Casey (or whoever else) comes flat-out and states that the squadmates we've seen thus far really won't necessarily stay with you for the long haul automatically, I remain on-the-line about it.

To shorthand that (I'm typing with my PS3 browser; it has a tendency to scatter my brain with frustration) I feel more confident that Casey Hudson's implication was more an overall answer to the outcry of ME2-introduced squadmate fans who are getting that sinking feeling their favorites won't be playable. I really don't feel as though characters like Liara are going to potentially wander off toward any other goal, and certainly not so that there is an appetizer sampler's worth of viable squadmates. That just doesn't match the "this is great, this reduced pool of squadmates! It's great!" tone I've been getting from everyone's tweets for months now.

I would definitely like to see that video interview though because that part doesn't sound familiar to me at all.

can't find the video, it might have been an interview with casey hudson or it could have been one of the q&a's all i remember it was a quick mention about how your team may not always agree with your actions and it can cause disagreements between you and them that could end up with them leaving, either way i'll keep looking for it in the morning

why does it have to be humans vs aliens? I love all of em equally. I thought mass effect was doing a good job teaching people what a bad egg xenophobia is but it sems to be having an opposite effect on some people...
