So I just downloaded Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen on my Xbox about ten minutes ago. Any class recommendations for a completely nub who will want to be playing a stealthy, dagger dual-wielding rogue, with a bit of climbing/bow shooting thrown in?

MAGIC ARCHER!! :-)

You have to start as a strider first though - but you don't have to max out that vocation. Though I recommend doing so for better core skills/augments. Then go to the inn at Gran Soren and switch to magic archer. Best ever!! The weapons (daggers/bows) are very lethal. ;-)

Sounds like it could be fun. Two questions:

1) As a magic archer, do you still have the ability to climb over anything you want?

2) Is it possible to take back your skill selections if you decide you don't like something?

^I definitely agree, and once you go Magick Archer, it's tough to switch back. Hehe.

Ninja'd, lol. You'll constantly be acquiring points in combat, so no need to worry about re-specing your character, and you can switch vocations at any time, once you get to Gran Soren.

Whatever you do, though, ignore the blue quest marker on Cassardis' docks, unless you want to visit Bitterblack Isle. You can go to the outer area to talk to Olra, download DLC, or purify BBI gear if you receive any, but to go into the dungeon, they recommend level 50. It's tougher than the vanilla game.

As Magick Archer, or any ranged class, you can double-jump, which allows you to climb up things you might not be able to as a different vocation. You can also use levitate with a staff once you get the skill. Although I admit that I'm a bit rusty regarding when those skills are available, exactly.

@Il Divo - You'll want to start as a Strider until you are able to play as an advanced vocation, like Ranger or Magick Archer...or Assassin, from what you're describing. Eventually, your best move is to max out all of the vocations, so you can take advantage of the top-tier augments.

If you want, you can add me as a XBL friend, and you can rent my pawn for free. My gamer tag is HappyDaiz73. My pawn is Gabrielle, and she's a level 166 Mage. In fact, we're a pretty friendly bunch in here, and I'm sure everyone else would be happy to help you out. We can use your pawn to get you rift crystals and gear/gifts, too, unless you want a tougher time at it.

Once you get to a rift stone, you can search while inside the rift for peeps in your friends list (make sure you're playing online), or other pawns at your level. You can hire two support pawns, for a squad of four total.

BTW, congrats, and welcome! Any questions, let us know!

Much appreciated for the tips! I actually just got through deactivating my live account (paying every month was getting problematic, haha), but thanks all the same.

Also, if you guys have any weapon/armor recommendations too, either in terms of bad ass appearance or abilities, I'm all ears!

BBI and post-game Everfall is the best gear, but for now, you can get some decent rewards for doing quests from notice boards. There is a board in Cassardis, Gran Soren, and the GS pawn guild. And another few in BBI, once you get there.

You'll find a lot of stuff in your travels, too.

@ Il Divo - Welcome!

@ Trista Hawke - I'll be sure to add you and your husband. Whenever I play my main I tend to get a bunch of lvl 1-2 that I don't need and can give you guys if you want it.

@Shep - That "Everybody Loves Shinon" pic is pretty awsome =P

Got my new laptop charger in the mail! =D Hopefully this one doesn't short out in 6 months like the last one did.

If anybody has any extra armor or weapon lvl 2's they don't want, or can transfer from my main when I get them, for my lvl 37 it would be much appreciated. I'm at the point on that character where I got most of the armor and weapons that you can get from chests and now I gotta try and get stuff from cursed items.

I'm afraid to take on any dragons on my low lvl character to get things dragon forged, haha. I tried facing a cursed dragon and did no damage to it and it one-shot me with his backhand attack. >.<

Oh yes and yes. As a magic archer you can move around like a ninja and climb, double jump all over the place. Plus your combat skills are just phenomenal (swift/hard hitting daggers/arrows combined with soul crushing magic).

You can completely switch over to a new class with new skills/augments whenever you please. :-)

Oh you don't need Xbox live gold for Dragon's Dogma - just regular (free) Xbox live. That's what I use - I don't pay a dime. Good news, yes? Friend me when you get the chance. :-)

@happy - have you changed anything with Gabrielle recently? Perhaps inclinations? I'd never seen her kneel after a fight like she's doing now.

I'm going to get to the bottom of this.

Well, that's weird. I haven't had a heart-to-heart with her since early in the game. We must get to the bottom of this!

I'm BACK!!! :D

Arya is currently a low level ranger; sorry for that. But she is happy to accept any unwanted bows and daggers and such *bats eyes*

Today while we were fighting a wight in the Everfall, and Briana surprised me by picking up an explosive barrell!  I've never seen a pawn do that. I'm not sure how effective she thought that would be against a wight that floats like 50 feet up in the air, but still, you get em, girl!

Oh and my husband has a strider girl who is level 26ish if you need a lower level pawn to gain better exp. His GT is "joepini"

(My gamer tag in sig)

I've been getting into beastie-trouble with Mungo today. He's a badass.

I met this lvl 88 mage named "bb". He had a cool look about him and I was in the market for a lvl 80-ish mage today.

Bath time.

I switched my vocation to Mystic Knight - very fun. Verrrry slow. My ansty magic archer motor memory will not leave the muscles of my fingers. Gah!

I want to do a big run through of the scarier depths of BBI with Gabrielle and her bf Shinon tomorrow night. :-D

Hmm, just lost Shinon and Quintin to Death in the Forgotten Hall, so I took my angst on the two Goreclops. Somehow, even with all the scything happening, neither clops got a taste of it. At least I got more BBI stuff from them, since I had to take them out myself. Gabs just walked around aimlessly.

And now more futile Godsbaning...

@Trista, Mystic Knight will get more fun. Do you have Magick Cannon yet? I love that. Of course, it took me a little while to figure out I was using it wrong, but once I had the eureka moment, it was great.

You'll have to let us know how it goes with the two lovebirds. :D

Shinon, please get out of there.
Image IPB

Fact: animations are not based on class. Shinon and Gabs are both mages here.
Image IPB
He'd never done that animation before, but he's been a mage for a while.

My 4 Armor lvl 3s last night became a full shadow set, which I sadly have many duplicates of already. At least the sets seem to be more varied now, instead of nothing but boots and cloaks.

Well, I gotta get going. Happy gaming, all.

Wow, it's strange to see daylight, after so long in the dark. Post-game, it's hard to tell the difference. ;)

I got my Carrion Greaves last night, woo hoo! I have all sets completed now. And boy, it was a lot of Godsbaning. It's kind of silly, really. I'm at level 170, and still haven't beaten Awakened Daimon yet, but at least I can say I've defeated Death. Once for real, and once because he fell off a cliff. Hehe.

I won't be around until later, but have fun!

Aw, sheet. Can anyone see those pics by clicking on them or am I locked out until the 11th?

Or perhaps a direct link to one?

Maybe you could create an account on another photo sharing site? Like Imageshack, or Flickr?

I'm thinking that once I get to level 200, I might dust off my other Arisen, and bring back Iorveth. Although I keep thinking that I should create a brand new one, so I can attempt to get the Hero achievement. I missed stuff in both of my playthroughs, from trying to race through them.

Decisions, decisions.

My husband thinks I should play something else.
