Your hesitation is completely valid, but look at it this way.  This is a new IP for Capcom, not a well-established game with a huge fan base like MvsC3 where they KNOW they have that huge fan base who will buy up anything

For a fresh IP they have a lot of hype and people begging for a PC release. I think they will have DLC on the disc.

Is it bad that I'm willing to make an exception for this? Because this game is so calling my name.

No. I've always said the games Capcom cares about, the ones where they carefully choose the developer, those games are excellent. The devs on this team are pros.

But would it really be anything worthwhile?  While there probably is stuff locked, I couldn't see it being anything more than weapons/items or some new quests or locations, and to me stuff like that wouldn't be worth buying as DLC anyway.  Capcom don't know yet how people are going to react to things like certain characters or enemies and whether or not players will love 'em or hate 'em until after the game is sold.  It's not as if this is a long-lived series and they have hidden fan favorite characters to unlock as DLC later on.  Just my thoughts.

Probably the best choice but I'll make an exception for Capcom. I haven't brought anything from them before and we'll see how DD goes. I'm really only buying it because of how awesome it looks and it looks like the RPG I'll spend the rest of the year on anyway. It's supposed to contain 200 hours of content and even if they do have DLC on the disc, what DLC will it be? Side quests? New items? Nothing I would touch anyway.

I doubt some big expansion would already been on the disc, that's the only thing that would annoy me. Also, it's a new IP, would CC really want to anger people for the first game in their new IP?

They milk their fighting games because they can. Asura's Wrath was actually just published by them. CyberConnect2 who made the dotHack games, is the company that actually developed it.

Devil May Cry 4 was awesome and Resident Evil 4 apparently is loved by a lot of the RE fans. Let's not forget that Capcom released their own Game of the Year Edition type with RE5 Gold after they released all the DLC and actually around the same time the last two came out.

You can tell from reading the blogs on Capcom-Unity and other previews that the people making this game have put their heart and soul into it. Hopefully that shows in the final product. I already think it will because what they've done to make the camera angles match the height of the characters on screen sounds awesome and wish other games incorporated something like that. The amount of customization is crazy, from the body customization to the variety of hair styles. I've actually seen hair styles that I love and would be able to look at for the entire game.

Well we'll wait and see but Mass Effect 3 has taught me the lesson of how awesome it looks doesn't mean anything.

This is exactly why people should pre-oreder this without hesitation. The fact that this is one of two or three games that will allow players to create a female character that doesn't have to look like a stock "sexy" character as some kind of obligation is a huge step in the right direction. Another plus is how much promotion is coming from the dev team concerning their work. That's what's generating all of the hype, not ads promos or plugs coming from gaming sites, just people who wokred on the game and are extremely proud of their work. I can not wait for May 22nd, and for the end of the year when it gets its GOTY mentions.

New GameTrailer's preview:

  • "Abandoned" castles and forts to explore but there will be enemies who have taken residence in them.
  • Creatures (like goblins) have camps scattered across the land.
  • The world really does seem alive. The tents moved in the wind.
  • The world seems peaceful in some places and chaotic in others as you'll find destroyed caravans along roads.

Meet Space Duck  :D

^^ start the video at 25 mins or around there to see the hilarity.
Also the only obligation I need to make a sexy character is having to look at them the entire game :D

In all seriousness though I'm sold on the game just not on Capcom's business practice.  I just found out they released Asura's Wrath "real ending" DLC and its making me hesitate even more.  And to be clear my days of pre-ordering anything ever again is over.

Image IPB They what?  *goes off to research*

Edit--- Okay, so from what I gather, you actually complete the main quest of the game in the vanilla version, but at some point through the game another event opens up, and the conclusion to this is what is being sold as DLC.

Its officially called "the real ending" DLC call it what you want but I'm telling you what Capcom is calling it.
With all this blowback going in with ME3's ending its like Capcom hates their customers.

I'd just like to say I like the cut of RPGamer13's jib. I too will be playing Dragon's Dogma with a nigh-impossibly muscled female character

Achievement list:

http://www.xbox360ac...a/achievements/

It seems you can give gifts to people (probably to raise their affinity with you) and you can dress male members in female clothing and vice-versa. Quests and quest items also exist in the world before you accept them according to one achievement:

The Hero40 Image IPBCompleted all pre-planned, non-notice board quests.

There are 22 secret achievements.

Why I do I have the feeling that The Rift will be filled with pawns of Solaire of Astora from Dark Souls? "Let us engage in jolly co-operation!"

Because that is the greatest idea in the world since ever. But just so it's not overfilled with Solaire I'll slap a Siegmeyer of Catarina in as well mmm...

I dunno, but if on PS3 you find a dark skinned muscular amzon pawn, it's probably mine.

That would be cool if you could have a relationship with your main pawn.

There really doesn't need to be romances in everything.

No, there doesn't. But hasn't the producer already said there will be those in the game?

And I was just saying how cool it would be if the main pawn is an option since they're so important to the story.

God damn it! You stole my idea!

They did say there will be some romance elements in the story and some influencing quests/story arcs.

Another dev article coming at ya.  This time it's about utilizing the MT Framework engine.

www.capcom-unity.com/gregaman/blog/2012/04/05/how_dragons_dogma_changed_the_mt_framework

From the article:

This time we've focused even more effort on shaders and implemented even more functions. It's now possible or us to display various kinds of interactivity in our graphics--characters can be shown totally drenched in water or with their clothes scorched.

Very cool. Image IPB

Also, Dragon's Dogma is utilizing the latest anti-aliasing technique (provided by nVidia), FXAA. The integration of this into the MT Framework had not made it in for the Captivate, E3, or TGS versions (they utilized a different anti-aliasing technique)--but FXAA is fully integrated into the product version of the game. With this we are able to use high-quality anti-aliasing to provide these massive environments which will look even smoother.

So already nice graphics will look even nicer?  Sounds good.

Also, I peeked at the achievements list.  Shame on me, but I'm glad nothing was spoilerific and a lot of them were hidden.  I can't wait to dress my male pawns in women's clothes and make them run around town just for the lulz.  And affinity?  The way that achievement is worded it almost sounds like all the NPCs are set up with this system and not just specific ones?  I like.  And the amount of quests, locations, and enemies---this game sounds massive.

And more gameplay incoming yet:

http://www.evilsourc...-dogma-attacks/

This shows just a few of the abilities of the Assassin, Mystic Knight and Magic Archer. All three look awesome. My favourite ability is the Mystic Knight's Firecounter ability:

The enemy gets sent skyward and struck with a fireball which sends him hurling away. I remember the developers of Amalur boasting that Amalur contains the best combat in an RPG yet, well if Dark Souls didn't disprove their claims then Dragon's Dogma should.

I've also been watching a live stream from Pax East (no commentary either!) where the player was a mage getting his ass handed back to him several times. The guy was literally getting killed by wolves and bandits over and over again and even got killed by a huge rolling stone at one point. Another thing I noticed was that pawns shout out when you die and there is battle music (which sounds pretty epic) when fighting small crowds of enemies. The wolves are actually relentless and can follow the player almost anywhere (up kills, stones and the like). I'd imagine the beginning of the game is going to be pretty dangerous if you go off of the road. Mind you, the player wasn't really playing the mage very well because he kept charging in and trying to beat heavily armored warrior bandits with a staff.

There's to be two more streams and hopefully all three will be on YouTube soon.

Where's this obsession with ripped women come from BTW? I mean if you're creating a female two handed warrior then it goes without saying that she would have some muscle but I can imagine finding female pawns at maximum bulk in the Rift if go online. I mean, even male warriors don't often display much muscle. Look at medieval imagery and art of knights. They look like ordinary geezers just like today's soldiers don't look like body builders.

My first character will be male and I'll probably be keeping him with the default body build which looks just about right. I'll prefer a rather average guy going up against the giant creatures in the world as it'll make everything feel more epic with small triumphing over big. Where has this obsession about giant muscled women or men suddenly come from? The body builds in the videos I provided above seem just about right to me. The Mystic Knight is a female but doesn't look too skinny. I think Dragon's Dogma is going to be a bit like Dark Souls in regards to armor. Armor will look like armor on a female without those bumps for the breasts!
