Tried the demo an hour ago and did both available quest teasers... aaand, I'm still not convinced I want to pre-order it. It's a little too JRPG for me, and I went in really trying to like it. I think my biggest issue is not really the game itself, but thinking about the other releases mid to end of May and figuring out which one gets mah dolla billz. It was entertaining and the character creation is pretty in depth, but I found myself unhappy with a lot of the available options -- some things just look outright bizarre haha. I'll def. give the game a try a month or so after release, though.. but, for me, it's not a first day purchase.

First impressions:

Combat was fun, but hopefully the finished game will be more fluid and have more combos.

That camera sucked.

Pawns need to stfu.

Range of characters looks nice. A couple of the female outfits looked like typical fantasy pandering, but the male equivalent looked similar as well.

Bow is really loose.

The zoom in pawn moments get really annoying, hope they diminish as the game goes on.

While pawn A.I. seems good, a couple of times getting the character to get under the Griffin was a pain.

Hello.

I've a question. How long does it usually take for an xbox gold exclusive demo take to unlock for everyone else?

I REALLY want to play this demo.

I don't think it always does. I'm sure for this one it might, but there's isn't a set timetable for this kind of thing. I think.

A week, I'm afraid. Don't know if it's the case with this but it probably is.

Man, this gameplay is starting to spoil me. Especially for the Strider. It seems deeper than what I first thought. I'm going to be paying more attention to this game.

Indeed. I was thinking the same thing as I played.

I believe the pawns can be shut up via menu options and the zoom in moments can be turned off. This is only for the main game though. They disabled the options for the demo sadly. One of the live streams actually shows them turning off these things and previews have confirmed that it's possible too.

There aren't any combos from what I know but you do have skills and there's 40 skills for each class. So yes, there's a lot of skills to be learned and you can combine skills with regular attacks which I guess would be combos.

The grabbing mechanic also works differently on different creatures. Grabbing a lizardman allows you to hold him down or kick him constantly. I'm hoping we can grab a humanoid creature and headbutt and punch them but I think we're only restricted to throwing or holding them for our companions to strike.

Now if only we can have an option to turn off the ridiculous theme music that plays for the main game...

There are combos. After messing around, you'll probably discover your attacks vary on timing and sometimes delaying on pressing attack will result in a different combo. The combat system is acually pretty deep.

Glad to hear it. I myself have not had the chance to play the demo and didn't know that there were combos outside of the skills. It seems the combat system is rather amazing as suspected. No surprise considering the guy who created DmC is working on it.

That system reminded me old Gothic games, The Witcher 1 and Kingdoms of Amalur. But DDs system seems more advanced.
I like that kind of combos then button mashing.

I think I spent a solid hour in the character creator before getting near the demo part...which only took about 15 minutes to play through. The Creator is excellent though. Love how much potential variation you get on both you and your pawn. Covers both genders and nearly any body type, age, etc you could possibly want. Good stuff.

The demo part itself was far too skimpy to get any sort of feel as to what the real story/gameplay would be like. But it has potential. So far it reminds me of a version of far less masochistic version of Dark Souls. Which is a a good enough reason for me to consider giving the full game a chance.

I found a way to shut off the battle cinematic. go through the options and change the battle cinematic to off. I also removed the party dialogues because it distracted me too much in battles. I have redone the two stages like three times already. I'm growing addicted to this gameplay style. If it wasn't from the small texts, I would so buy this game...

Ridiculous theme music? I actually like the music. I don't mind J-rock at all.

Well, I haven't even looked at the demo yet. Will probably download it during early May. Anyways, it sounds like combat is fun. I just hope the storyline is good.

Gotta say, when I first saw this game I thought it looked great. Then I found out it was developet by Capcom and I forgot about it completely. But I played the demo yesterday and I was completely (and pleasantly) surprised.

Oh well had enough money for one game given some trade-in's I had and it was this or Game of Thrones.Went for GoT's hopefully I didn't make a mistake. Still plan on getting DD, but will wait when its a bit cheaper.

How so?

The GoT comes out when I'm in town, so no need for an extra trip. Its costing me nothing, I like the story to GoT. DD seemed "good or okay" to me. I don't like throwing down money in huge amounts unless I see a need. plus if its crap I can turn around and take it back for 35, then on top of my 10% from membership, and a 50% bonus trade in, I can easily get Dragon's Dogma without spending any cash of my own at all hardly.

Either way I win, unless they both suck.

Why? AP was critically panned, but I felt better about paying 60 dollars for it then a lot of AAA games.

Yeah same here. If this game doesn't have more than one save file than that's a massive fail on Capcom's part especially when they say that they want the player to create more than one character and playthrough the game multiple times.

The character creator was nicely done (although the hair is kinda..meh). I liked the variations with scars, body styles, etc., and the fact that my character's boobs didn't have to be the size of watermelons. I also enjoyed being able to grab onto the chimera thingie, while stabbing it, that was a nice touch.

Somewhat negatively, though, the demo was very short, and I felt like the controller layout was awful (360). Hopefully the buttons are/will be customizable (I didn't look into that, so I don't know one way or the other).

My husband thought it was awesome, but he's not the graphics snob I am. My feeling is kinda lukewarm on it right now. I'm hopeful that the actual game will give me the warm fuzzies, because we have it preordered...and there aren't many other games coming out in the near future that I want.
