Well, there could be an explanation there. Grim Tidings revolves around Merin's dead brother, Cortese. Is the dead guy referred to by name in the prologue?

I still adhere to my theory back on page 45.
"I mean what or who am I supposed to be saving in this game? Everyone appears to be Jesus, the Christ and everyone resurrects in three days when killed so who cares if the dragon destroys the world? Everyone would resurrect three days later anyway! Merin is LIVING proof that humans resurrect from the dead in Gransys.
Meanwhile Gransys is overrun with monsters who out-number humans. The Shadow Fort is held by four soldiers so it's no wonder why it was overrun. Meanwhile it seems that Gran Soren's army is only composed of forty soldiers. Now compare that to the thousands of monsters you will have killed by the end...
Perhaps the dragon destroying the world wouldn't have been a bad thing. The monsters would have been killed and the humans (being Christ incarnates) would resurrect three days later anyways."
And I swear the NPC's actually do resurrect after three in-game days. Nice touch there Capcom. That makes me laugh.
So Salvation did get it right.
I suppose one could take in account of the respawning monsters but let's not. I mean come on! My theory is much more fun!"Let the dragon destroy all these monsters and then we humans would respawn after three days in a peaceful world."
Speaking of past comments. I just discovered an old gem on page 43.
"I'm still waiting for that price drop or the inevitable Super Demon Sexy God Ultimate Edition of Dragon's Dogma approved by The Catholic Church and The Al-Askari Mosque."

If you mean I entered the room and the Duke stopped choking her, Yeah, I intervened. I can relate to the Duchess trying not to get killed by the crazy Duke, so I forgive the whole being thrown in prison.
I honestly wish my Arisen would have defended herself in that scene. She's the freaking Arisen, she's not going to mess around with the Duke's wife. Not if she has any say in it.
I want to say more but I'm skirting around spoiler territory, so I'll be safe and wait until later.

I had to wait seven days for someone to haul her ass back to the land of the living after I'd tossed her into the ocean so I could toss her into the ocean again. I think she knew it was coming so she stalled as long as she could.
But yeah, Gransys is populated by a bunch of immortals. Immortals that can forge meat.

And now I'm curious about the Dragonforged's pawn. When I talked to pawn he said he looked different than he does now. So, do they change? And why?
The Pawns are becoming more interesting by the second. It seem's out all of the story points, the Pawns seem to be the most mysterious, even more so than the Dragon.
You guys know the answer probably, but since I'm basically playing it live, I do think there's some fun laughing at the ignorant peasent who still fears wolves in the game.

Is the loyalty to the Arisen real?
Yes. As to why that is, I don't believe it's explained. Perhaps if the pawns are all created by Arisens instead of being chosen at random out of the Rift, they would see their Arisen as a mother/father figure. I think pawns are already knocking about in the Rift before they're "created" in the CC, but I don't think there's anything in-game to support that.

It's interesting to think of my Arisen's and their pawn's loyalty. I'd say Arya looks after Dai as if he were her little brother. She cares for him so much.
As for Seel, I'd say he and Rohan were like best friends or brothers. They have each other's backs, but Rohan sometimes rolls his eyes at Seel's antics. Seel, being a pawn, would of course lay his life down for Rohan, but little does he know, Rohan would do the same.

The Pawns simple are a concept I just find fascinating, since they are a mystery unto themselves. Even they don't know what they are. They just exist. And the questions that have arisen (lol) make me respect this game's lore.
I'm planning and all night game session of Dragons's Dogma to see if I can learn some other things. So stick around I guess if you want to read some ramblings of a person's with way too much time on their hands.

"Goofiness"? This thread is 100% seriousness, 24/7.

Joking aside, I still see Shinon as a soulless shell. His "Stay with me"s and "NOOOOOOOO"s are rather...vehement, but I see it more out of duty than actual concern. In the beginning, anyway.
But then again, d'aaaawwwww...

It's hard not to attach personalities to these guys once you've been travelling with them for hundreds of hours, even if they're absolutely unfounded in-game.

I guess Dark Arisen would count as that. Hard Mode, speedrun mode, all that stuff. Possibly even better if you had the original Dragon's Dogma and got all the other goodies.
It wasn't approved by the The Catholic Church and The Al-Askari Mosque though and that was nearly a deal-breaker for me. I normally only buy games approved by these organizations together and they've only approved around five games in the last decade:
- Mass Effect 2.
- Mount and Blade.
- Left Behind: Eternal Forces.
- Castlevania III.
- Portal.

I grant you, the game does have some interesting sections especially in the later part of the story.
I'm much more interested in the ending rather than the pawns, The Rift and Gransys. Bitterblack Isle is also worthy of discussion with the amount of lore it adds but we can't talk about neither yet. The others here weren't too bothered talking to me about the endings either as they were too busy lusting over Shinon.

I actually couldn't. Though mind you that might be due to the fact that all of my pawns (with the exception of one) are female and I typically hate the female pawn voice. All pawns are annoying but there's something more bearable with the male voice. After 110 hours I finally ditched the pawn for my main character. I just couldn't bare her voice any longer.
I can remember the male pawn with a female character I created. I've forgotten the female pawns on the otherhand.
I much prefer creating females in this game which is why I almost always end up with female pawns for my new characters even though I hate their voices.

Oh you.
I don't remember ignoring ending discussions, except when there were people still on their first playthrough. Trista Hawke and Motomoto came in late, so we couldn't really have any discussions then. If you can link me to a page in which this happened, please do so.
And while I am guilty of unleashing the Shinon Plague on this thread, which I am both proud of and regret deeply, I still am capable of being serious.

Edit:

Wow. I think both the "default" voices are quite lovely, even some of the lower pitched ones sound good. One of the voice sets is Mary Elisabeth McGlynn, I've been a fan of her for many, many years.
Has anyone actually tried telling their pawns to shut up in knowledge chairs? I know I did it with my first pawn but I don't remember how effective it was.

'Due to rising monster populations in recent years, the roads have been over run.'
So the monsters have been appearing more and more. And if I recall in one of the opening cutscenes, harpies spawned with the dragon. So perhaps it was a subtle herald of the Dragonpocalypse. (That's what I'm calling it.)
But then, the same portal that the Dragon used, Rook also did it seems. Are they the same, or are their differences?
Curious. Ah well, griffin murdering time! To Bluemoon tower!

Ah no. I wasn't referring to you.
Mind you I don't blame the others. As I said before the story isn't the game's strong point until near the end.
I found some of the quests to be far more entertaining in their stories. I also love how the inhabitants of Cassardis have accents and literally every NPC in the village has their own story to tell you and you get new dialogue out of them as the story progresses (so I hope you're going back to speak to them Apophis4321). That was brilliant and I felt as if they were my character's family.
It's a shame that level of detail did not extend to the many of the NPC's in the capital though who simply repeat the "time's are hard indeed" comment. Oddly Capcom made sure all the NPC's were voiced differently so you'll find NPC's saying that exact same thing but with different voices. Although there still are a few NPC's in the capital who have some unique dialogue.
Another thing is that you'll find that quite a few NPC's are secret members of Salvation.

I also don't like any of the English voices for pawns. I can't imagine playing this game without the Japanese voices! It was horrifying to me to hear Arya's English voice lol I try not to think about it... her Japanese voice is so solemn and thoughtful, and yet almost girlish.
In English she sounds like she has a thyroid problem

Someday, I will see what all the fuss is about with the Japanese voices. Until then, I'm content with this. Heh, "Hear more". Why isn't that option always there?
Not a fan of Rook's voice, though. When you speak to some pawns in the rift, they sound like that despite not actually having that voice set.

Journey's Through Gransys
So I began my journey with of course taking a picture of:
scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/q71/s720x720/1525398_485518761565747_1130630357_n.jpg
Devala, red headed, murderous, and pragmaticly dressed. Loyal to the core, but completely nuts.
Then I decided to take some nature shots.
scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc3/q77/s720x720/1505341_485518754899081_1841991179_n.jpg
Um, game reviewers, are you sure this game has bad graphics? Looks beautiful to me. Seriously, Skyrim's grasslands sucked.
scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/q77/s720x720/1512527_485518751565748_301299409_n.jpg
Then I asked some harpies for directions. They laughed at me. Devala, of course, murdered them. Seriously, so awesome.
scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn2/q72/s720x720/1477500_485518788232411_333495783_n.jpg
Then the game turned creepy as I entered a place with no grass or civilization, just wind, rock, and bones.
Devala, being more badass than me, saw it as a symbol of how far we had come since Cassaridis.
scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-frc1/t1/q71/s720x720/995296_485518791565744_1720478645_n.jpg
Finally, Blue Moon tower, my target. Devala and the other pawns looked to me to lead them there, and I, now pissing myself in fear, entered the tower at night.
scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/q71/s720x720/1526321_485518794899077_941792940_n.jpg
Hey Mr.Griffin... don't kill me..... I'm just going to kill you. Hehehh....

Realizing fire was it weakness, I began using Sunflare instead of my arrows, getting this badass shot. Devala of course was right under the creature since she attacked right when it crashed back on the groud. The other pawns were throwing fire and attacking as best they could.
scontent-a-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/q71/s720x720/1486817_485518844899072_454714090_n.jpg
And thus.. it was slain!

Found a port crystal... note to self: Cassardis you will be placed. I love that town, very calming, like most starting towns go.
Then the truly frightening realization occurred.... I had to go all the way back.. at night.
scontent-b-lga.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/q71/s720x720/944824_485518871565736_2029494809_n.jpg
Devala, great at murdering the undead, carries a big sword, and is a red-head. I love this game.

Devala, I get it, you love murdering... but do you have to attack the giant GOLEM?
After that insanity, I met Diane, a friendly Harpy who challenged me to a race.

Diane was pretty awesome, though Devala got very... angry. Explain internet?
She then proceded to take her anger out on a ogre, a bunch a of dire wolves, and some harpies... who then tried to kill me

I really like Gransys. Yeah, it's not as big as other open world RPG's. But what makes Gransys's open world really stick for me is in the real lack of a fast travel system. Without a major fast travel system, it's feels less like a game, and more like an immersive world.
The Pawns comments on the roads, the ruins, and the keeps constantly build on your knowledge of Gransys while your playing it, allowing for a immserive world without breaking your immerison with a info dump like I said before.
Also, it makes nightime even more frightening if your halfway across the world of the game.
In the end though, what I like about Gransys is the freedom. For some reason I can't place, Gransys feels just more open and expansice, even though being smaller than most RPG worlds. I really don't know why it feels like that, but it does.
So yeah, Gransys ironically enough, feels a lot more immersive than a massive open world like Skyrim does.

I think you might be giving the pawns a bit too much credit. Repeating "The Duke could stand to commission some new roads" and "Castle walls? Or the ruins of such?" to the point where you want to strangle the life out of them doesn't really build on my knowledge of Gransys.
Do pawns know about a place the first time they go there? If they haven't been hired by other Arisens, and just stumble upon a new place, do they prattle on about it? Because if they do, this would suggest they've been around before being "created" by the Arisen, otherwise, how would they know anything?

They definitely respond to the area without other pawns or having been in the area before.. I've noticed.
