Hey guys. I got a question for you.

Is Olra a Pawn or an Arisen?

I won't ruin the surprise.

Why do I ask? Cause only Arisen's can ever find Bitterblack from what the Pawns say, and only the pawns can follow the Arisen.

The answer to your question is at the bottom of that bottle.

Also will we have to face a Dark Arisen at some point? You know, the name of the DLC. It's just too much of a tease, you know?

Of course. Capcom wouldn't tease you. Not that much anyway.

Truly you guys are as secretive as BBI.

Also, just fought Grigori again.. and I realized something.

My pawn is a bad**s. Jumping on Grigori, wailing on it's hearts by grabbing it. Heck, I think she jumped out of his claws once and the contiuned to wail on him. Seriously, sometimes I wonder if I'm the pawn around here...

Also I went through more of BBI.. .and now I'm stuck. In some stupid catherdal with a dead dragon and the undead pope. So yeah, I'm annoyed.

That's the Dark Bishop. Ignore the dragon and fire away at him. He is pretty easy to kill.

Your pawn "learns" stuff as you go through the game, replay certain fights, and as s/he is hired by other players. So actually your pawn does get better and better as the game continues.

And this is why we need a sequel. The Pawn system deserves to given a chance for refinement. Imagine full control of the Pawns, like adding switching out combos or battle stragies?

I wish I could make pawns use skills outside of battle. Shinon needs to Advanced Trigger Fournival because the old walrus won't sell me Maker's Fingers. He's always sold out. Maybe I have one buried in storage, I know you can only have one at a time.

I'd like to see how much a Maker's Finger makes the Ur's bar drop now.

^There should be an "app" for that. XD

Ahh the joys of sorting through storage for that one item. That also happens to have the same graphic as 20 other items. I spent a good 5-10 minutes looking for some rancid bait meat the other day. I'd never used it before, so I wasn't even sure what category it was in. Yes, yes, I know, I could've looked at the wiki but for some reason I was stubborn and/or lazy.

Is the Maker's Finger gift-able? Seems to me someone could just be gifted a sh!t-ton of 'em and just wail on Death or Mr. Ur. But I suppose you can't gift them. I've never used it. I imagine you don't really get any XP when using one.

Sadly, but my sister, lover of dragons, griffins, and all that, had discovered Dragon's Dogma. I won't be on for a few hours probably.

A good time to dragon-forge items, though. At least Post-Dragon.

My sister's really digging Dragon's Dogma. Once I set her up with a PSN account I'm going to help her out with some pawns. SHe doesn't really play games much, and I wan't to help her out.

When I set up her account could you guys on PS3 help her out?

(Also, if my xbox still works, I'm going to try  and Dark Arisen on Xbox, so I  can play with you people on XBOX.)
(Also, I think my computer glitched for a sec. I hope I didn't end up making multipe posts.)

I would like to thank Briana and Chase for their assistance in toppling this great beast. Shinon, despite posing in the background like this is his kill, did a fat lot of nothing. He'd draw his daggers, climb the Ur's leg for about a second, then go "ew, slimy" and jump off. He kept doing this until the heart he was trying to get at burst, then he ran around aimlessly until it died.

Got a Siegfried Mask and the usual stuff.

Whoa, congrats!! :wizard: Oh, Shinon. LOL

I need to stop switching accounts so much. But I get so tired of one playthrough and want to switch immediately to the other. Yesterday someone sent Arya back with a "rock." Sigh. Hope that person didn't waste a nice gift.

I've heard that there is a big difficulty spike with the Dark Arison content. Is this so and if so, are there certain builds that are better for this? I got Dark Arison for free from PS+ and will give the game another go (I played it on the 360 ages ago).

Basically any build that combines magic with something else will dominate compared to others. But that's always been true. Still. it'll be challenging no matter what at any level. Some people still have trouble at infinity.

There is a difficulty spike with Dark Arisen, but it varies to degrees based on your build, play style and level. It sounds like you will be starting from the beginning (since you originally played on the Xbox), so you will want to wait a while before attempting Bitter Black Island (the new location in Dark Arisen). They did rebalance a few of the vocations, but for the most part, it will feel the same. As for builds, YMMV. I prefer a more balanced build for both my pawn and Arisen, but that is mostly due to the fact that I like playing many of the vocations. However, a magic heavy player (with enough build up for strength and defense), can do quite well in BBI (Bitter Black Island). Especially useful in BBI are the hybrid vocations for the Arisen; namely Magic Archer and Mystic Knight (I prefer Magic Archer over Mystic Knight).

If you are more inclined to leave your pawn in one particular vocation, then I would highly recommend that once you have had him/her max out all the vocations (to open up all available augmentations), setting your Pawn as Ranger can be the best support role for them. They are equally useful in both the vanilla game and BBI. Again, don't feel this is the only way to play, but some players do have a preference vocation for their pawns, and this is a very useful one, IMO.

Looking at the wiki for build stats on all the vocations (especially paying attention to the increases in HP, Stamina, Defense, Magic Defense, Strength, and Magick Attack, that happens before reaching level 100....these increases per level are much higher before level 100), will give you some good info. And remember; maxing vocations can be done quicker by going after lots and lots of lower ranked enemies (goblins, bandits, wolves, etc...). Finding areas that respawn these type of enemies, can help you max your vocations quicker, with out leveling up too fast.

Have fun with the game! You are welcome to rent my pawn if you are interested (gamertag the same as my username here). Since I don't have Dark Arisen for PS3 (only have it on Xbox, so far), you won't be able to gift my pawn (or gift very much, apparently), or rank her. Don't worry about it though....I don't mind. ;)

So many people on PS :crying: Most of us are on xbox. How sad we can't play with each others' pawns!

Righto, and correct me if I'm wrong, but if you're going to build a pawn who will, well, pwn, and not so much a jack-of-all-trades, then it's best to decide what you want him to be, a magic-user or fighter type. Leave your pawn as a warrior or sorcerer until level 100 so that they can get the biggest bang for their buck. I did that with mine, and my warrior/ranger/strider pawn, for example, has higher XP than some infinity strider/ranger pawns. Hoping my sorcerer pawn will be pretty darn boss at level infinity too!

Of course that means they are most useful to an Arisen who is either a hybrid or the opposite affilitation. My baddest Arisen is a magick archer; he tears through BBI. My assassin, while physically stronger and having higher strength, etc. is much harder. Luckily he is the one with the sorcerer pawn.

If I could redo things, I don't know if I would change how my duo turned out or not. My Arisen being made of glass can get frustrating, and since she didn't stay a sorcerer for too long once she discovered magick archery, her magic stat could be a little better...

I didn't really care about building an ideal character when I started, I just saw there was a mage option and I took it, just as I'm sure a lot of people took what appealed to them. I never knew how vocations influenced stat growth until I was so far along that I'd missed all the important levels.

I did find that as soon as Alynna donned heavy armor and took up a sword and shield, she was burning through the wakestones, so she never remained as a physical class for too long. (I find fighter/warrior classes incredibly boring, possibly because I'm terrible with them.) Shinon is equally inept as a mage/sorcerer, but he can still hold his own, despite having the magical talents of a turnip.

If you actually like playing as a class, stats don't really matter, I don't think. Oh, you might do less damage than some other pawn/arisen, but you actually can't completely bork a playthrough by playing solid physical for 200 levels and then realizing what you really wanted was to become a sorcerer.

Unless my math is incorrect (it probably is), If you play as a fighter/warrior for all 200 levels, your magic stat will be a paltry 258 - but equipping a Sanguine Stalk adds 1200 magic attack at the least, (1730 at the most,) making it completely feasible to change vocations that late in the game. Plus, there are armor sets and rings that boost magic, and periapts make things crazy.

Yeah, you'll be less effective as a mage than a physical class, sure, but you can still do it. My ineffectiveness as a fighter is completely due to my hatred of the class and not my stats.

Bleh they are boring to me, too. I always choose archer/rogue in an RPG, so I chose strider, and then switched to magick archer almost as soon as I could. But you guys suggested I play as a sorcerer for awhile since his arrows were, well, less than effective. So I did, up until level 100 or so. OMG he is so OP. Except against frostwyrms, who are apparently resistant to ice, holy, and thunder... bastards!

It is feasible, but, 1700 is still pretty low. Seel's magic stat is 3000 when equipped with the sanguine stalk. And he is only level 140!

Have you ever tried explosive rivet/volley? Or immolation, which I keep forgetting to equip?

Yeah, you're not gonna rock anyone's world with a magic stat like that, but you're also not going to be completely useless. Well, except perhaps against the Big Bad of BBI.

My pawn in other news, loves firing arrowstorms on saurians. Seriously, she hates saurians. So did Mage/Chase too, from the way she used high level magic to brutally destory them.

Artemis is chilling for a while, since now we've got to rush past every monster again because I had to liftstone my ass out of a undead dragon/pope fight.

I'm gonna seriously go after some drakes in post game, try to level up a bit more.

Thanks for the replies. Lots of good stuff and I'd forgotten how deep the CC and classes are. I'm neck deep, so to speak, in The Last of Us and will jump back into DD when I'm done.

Oh, here's a major tip I think that you should know.

Explore every main hub for everything. Don't just follow the quest marker. The first town has a bunch of easy quests to complete to get cash, and there's in fact a shop for armro weapons in the area, which most people miss because they go to the ecampment.

Also, be sure to go back to Cassardis right after making your pawn. You'll get an optional cutscene if I"m not mistaken that you can miss if your not careful.
