The Arisen and Main Pawn you created in the demo does transfer over into the full game.

Yeah, I am also really satisfied with my character and pawn I created.. and very glad to hear that they transfer over. However, just in case, I made a word .doc of them both in the event that something goes wrong.

Gotta admit.. game is growin on me.

The only thing that's really holding me back now is the story, and whether or not there even is one to speak of... and the quality of it. I do get that it's Capcom, so I'm not expecting something really epic.. but there hasn't been much word on the game's story, other than "You are Arisen"

Just one cut scene and the dialogue in the scene afterwards. The player skipped dialogue with NPC's though. So story is part of the game but whether it's going to be any good or not is another story no pun intended.

Yup!  The past videos I watched were all about combat, stats, and wandering around the world... so I was worried there would be a lack of dialogue options or cutscenes.  Over the weekend, I stumbled across a few YouTube videos of sample cutscenes..aaand, not too bad.  With that in mind, I think this is a definite purchase for me.  I'm just debating whether I want to catch Preorder or wait a bit. :]

I also am really digging the nonspeaking protagonist, like DA:O.  I find it helps me immerse a lot better.

Here's a few that made me want the game:

- non cutscene dialogue & big enemies
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nu52_OkZImc - combat & some cutscene -- also alludes to a RE4-ish evil midget
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RZQJ43c86o - a story? :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ERY1XnZjDcQ - ...okay, i'm buying it.

Since you have a few doubts, I don't see any harm in waiting a few days to get people's opinion on the story. I'm not getting this game alone for the combat and open world, I'm hoping there's a good story with good characters behind it too. I'm also curious as to how much choices impact the plot because there's supposed to be choices which lead you down different paths and outcomes.

I'm not expecting the story to be on par with Bioware stories but I expect something that's good at least.

Oh and here's more story here with minor spoilers but the cut scene and dialogue is done really well:

Here's some dialogue as part of a quest where you must inquire about some wizard:

So the game isn't just about combat, big monsters and pawns. There's actually all the traditional RPG elements too. Capcom just haven't been advertising the choices and story much other than in their blog entries on Capcom unity.

Oh and you can wear a g-string:

LOL at that guy's character. Thanks for the vids! I gotta decide quick on PO or few days after because I'll be going out of the country and I'm deciding whether I want to take this game with me or not. :]

The game has grown on me, after my first impressions of the demo. Seems like there's a lot more than I thought to the game, and that a lot of hours will be wasted wandering the map (which is what I enjoyed about Skyrim). Also, from that one video you posted -- the one where you decide to kill the guy or not in the dungeon -- it seems like pawns can be a little annoying. hahah

Funny thing is they claim it is too late for Dragon's Dogma. How about, I don't know, relaease the on disk content for free for a game that is not out?

That's it! I'm done with console gaming. Canceled my preorder for this one. Even though I'm getting the game for 20 bucks off, I'm really tired of feeling like I'm being cheated out of the product I paid for.

Whaaaaaaaat?! I had just decided I would be buying this game today and this poopie happens. Seriously. The every new game warrants a $60 price tag is already broken, and now they're charging gamers for content already available before release.

If developer's only current solution to creating storage heavy DLC is to pre-package it with the game... then they need to wait until better technology is created, instead of blatantly ripping gamers off.

This was discovered months back or at least speculated about. For one Capcom said they were releasing a 100 quest DLC pack some months back and some people were able to win the DLC pack for free. Secondly, Capcom also said at the start of this year that the Xbox 360 version would be getting DLC first. Thirdly Capcom's pre-order DLC has been known since last year. Fourthly, all of Capcom's games thus far have shipped with DLC on the disc.

The conclusion? Dragon's Dogma would have DLC on the disc and it would be content locked. We actually had a debate about this a few pages back on page 13. I was going to wait for the "Dragon's Dogma Rediculously Super Awesome God Sexy Handsome Mad Man of Badassesery Deluxe Gold and Silver Edition of The Dragon and Capcom Signed By Developers of Capcom Exclusive Driztsaian Multi Deluxe DLC Package + Expansion and Disc Locked Content Unlocked" but decided against it on account that the game offers 300 hours in gameplay already. What else is there coming out for the 360? A 7 hour shooter with recycled mechanics being priced at £40? No thanks.

I can sell this game later once I hear rumors of the "Dragon's Dogma Rediculously Super Awesome God Sexy Handsome Mad Man of Badassesery Deluxe Gold and Silver Edition of The Dragon and Capcom Signed By Developers of Capcom Exclusive Driztsaian Multi Deluxe DLC Package + Expansion and Disc Locked Content Unlocked"  and then buy that one when it releases but by then I should have probably got more of my money's worth from the game.

I'm against disc locked content as much as the next guy and there's a reason why Capcom are often called Crapcom but I'm not going to wait a year to play an action-RPG which actually is rather unique and gets the action done well.

Wow on disc content? I may just call this order off..

I wasn't really into the look of the game all that much myself, and there are a couple of things coming this year I want.

As an edit.

I like DLC, DLC that comes later, acts like expansions, etc. I don't mind giving you 5-10 bucks for a new DLC. That adds levels weapons, characters whatever. As long as its worth the value.

But Stuff thats ON my game, and you want me to pay you twice? Yoru out of your mind. And Andriod trust me this isn't console gaming so much as capcom being capcom. This is also why I highly doubt I'll be buying Resident Evil Six.

If Capcom is so worried about the vocal outrage of dlc now; why say it's too late for Dragon's Dogma? They can, oh I don't know, make it free to quell the anger? Then again this is Capcom.

As for the game itself I might wait a while for it before buying, see how they handle this whole dlc business, feels like a repeat of EA/Bioware's handling of dlc (except Capcom is actually concerned whilst Bioware just calls us 'entitled'.)

It just seems to happen with more frequency on consoles. I didn't mind buying LOTSB or Stolen Memories. They were well written and made more than a year after the game had been out. But making it and putting it on the disc Is just insulting. I was already getting the game for two-thirds what it costs, but this doesn't even make it feel like it's worth that much.

I'm just surprised at how bold they are with doing this with a brand new IP. How do they even know there's enough interest to justify DLC in the first place? It's not an Elder Scrolls game, Fallout, or Street Fighter. The game doesn't have any fan base to speak of, so making the DLC alongside the game and charging extra for on disc content is a bold move, and I hope it blows up in their faces.

Exactly.  If they were actually "apologetic" about it or seriously reconsidering their policy as a result of fan feedback... they could always just provide some of the on-disc DLC for free... since, you know, it's already there.  And all it really needs is authentication.

Maybe this is why they didn't want to release it for PC. PC players would unlock all of this stuff in a matter of minutes, like people did with Javik once they found out he was on the disc.

Well, damn.
And I just preordered this yesterday after deciding to overlook my reservations of purchasing from Capcom.

I've been really excited about this game for months, but I don't want to support these type of business practices anymore.

In retrospect, I think I'm going to just wait to buy it later.. when it's cheaper.. so then I can use the "saved" money to buy DLC that should already have been included in the $60 price tag.

Yes, it has the best character creator I've seen, what other games allow you to grab onto enemies so other characters can wail on them or grab onto and ride flying enemies... I can't think of any.

Shadow of Colossus and God of War let you climb up onto big enemies.  I'm sure there are a bunch of other examples... and, while it's a fun part of combat, it's far from unique.

The pawn AI seems pretty good, though.  Actual help from your squadmates, rather than them just being pointless or a detriment during battle.  I'll take it!  --- though I wish there was a way to mute them.  I kind of like how ME/DA party members follow behind you, rather than wander idly when you're stopped.  I have a feeling I'm going to be grabbing and throwing pawns a lot, so that they get out of my way.

There's also Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. The climbing may be scripted but you're not attacking their knees or legs when fighting them and when you're not climbing them or performing scripted attacks against them they actually have some deadly attacks. The giant ogre actually does some rather quick attacks.

Beowulf The Game was a flawed action game and rather short but it did some elements surprising well. You could grab any enemy and you sometimes saw your soldiers struggling against the enemy and could help them by attacking the enemy they were struggling against. Meanwhile you could wrestle against ogres and trolls. Sadly the end boss fight did suffer from the "attack the knees" syndrome as you fought against some huge dragon but at least you were rewarded afterwards with an awesome QTE event.

Still Dragon's Dogma is the only game I can think of where all these events feel much more...let's say "free" for lack of a better word. The climbing isn't scripted and neither is the companion help. Mind you everything else Dragon's Dogma offers can be found in Dark Souls which nails everything else better. Dark Souls has the more polished combat system, the better emphasis on class and weapons (each weapon has its own animation, attacks and attack style), clearly the more dangerous world and certainly the more varied world.

Dragon's Dogma could easily be this year's GOTY (well, that is if Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 doesn't come out this year because if it does and it's like the first but more improved and bigger, then I don't see any titles competing against it this year unless Larian release Divinity 3 this year which is unlikely considering they have Dragon Commander planned for this year and I imagine Divinity 3 is planned for next year) but I don't really want to fork out £40 on what is an incomplete game. If I want an incomplete game I'll buy Skyrim.

Meanwhile I've seen the world map which suggests that there's areas which are cut off. Here's the explorable areas:

The green areas are forests which are explorable.

Image IPB

Here's a more detailed version:

Image IPB
Now let's have a loot at the map of this entire island:

Image IPB

Look at the west and the shaded out north. I'm certain these areas will be DLC areas. I originally thought the DLC would be just extra quests (probably boring fetch quests adding maybe one or two new caves to explore or something) and extra items and nothing that major but the map seems to suggest otherwise. I'd imagine that at least 30% of the map is locked for the DLC which is already on disc.

Nice try Capcom but I'll wait for the Dragon's Dogma Rediculously Super Awesome God Sexy Handsome Mad Man of Badassesery Deluxe Gold and Silver Edition of The Dragon and Capcom Signed By Developers of Capcom Exclusive Driztsaian Multi Deluxe DLC Package + Expansion and Disc Locked Content Unlocked edition if I even decide to buy the game at all now.

Still think the map is big? Maybe the scale is different? Well according to this guy it only takes 30 minutes to get from the bottom to the top:

Which is contrary to Capcom's claims that it takes 2 - 3 hours to cross the world.

I must admit that Capcom played everything well. The way they had those developer diaries where the developers talked about the game and their work on it as though they were passionate about it and then we had all the trailers and videos showing how the game stands out and how the features are rather innovative. To top all that off, Capcom were so confident in the game that they gave us a demo to play.

Then all of this information is revealed.

So to Capcom I say:

Well played. You nearly had everyone fooled.

Image IPB

10/10

Bethesda could learn a thing or two from you.

Back to Baldur's Gate, Divinity 2 and Dark Souls I guess.

Yeah, as much as I want to play this game... my desire to not support their shoddy business practices is even greater. I'm gonna have to wait on this one. I already dislike the entire idea of DLC, but something like this is just poopie. As players, we have to show developers that we won't be jerked around like puppets.

On a kind-of-sort-of related topic:

If I were a developer, I'd use DLC to perpetuate replayability by unlocking content throughout the year... for free!  I would include it on the disc (cause, realistically.. if I'm able to get it out on launch date, that means I already had the resources to produce it, and that my sales projections are in line with launch)... and then, open up new quests, etc. every 2-3 months.

That would give players incentive to play the game throughout the year, instead of 2-3 months after release, while also giving new players more incentive to purchase the title.  They wouldn't wait for the Ultimate Edition, cause I'm handing that s*** out for free throughout... so, you'd want to pick it up as soon as you can: nearer to the $60 than the reduced $25 price tag at the end of the year.

I don't know.  I'm sure there are technicalities that nullify this idea... but, wouldn't that be freaking awesome?

@ Andriod, oh itll hurt them somehow. It already has lost them one sale.

and EJD....wow that much of the maps is cut off? Either there are huge mountain ranges or. Capcom is being capcom. Its a shame I love RPG's I'm an RPG, RTS and shooter player. Yet this year?

Shooters are all I've got to look foreward too. Only RTS is heart of the Swarm which there is no date on, and I need a newer gfx card only problem is no one around me has crap newer than 7 years ago. And not one RPG is on the list atm.

Maybe I'll get the Delux edition of this when it comes out next year. But me heres to hoping something good comes out of E3.

Elton John, I believe they said "2-3 hours walking the coastline." SEE WHAT THEY DID THAR?

I guess they could say if you walked reaaally slowly, and in a winding manner, it takes you 2-3 hours to cross the map.

I'd imagine that 30% of content is locked from the game and we're receiving 70%. That map suggests the rest of it will be released via some big DLC where upon the content is already on disc and I bet on the rain in Africa that the content will expand upon the story which should really be concluded in the "main" game.

I'd admit that Capcom played it well. I kinda of admire their strategy. Thank God for people who got their hands onto the game and strategy guide early to reveal the truth to us.

@Muppezt

Yeah. Clever bastards. I bet they were all feeling smuag in their offices after releasing that statement and seeing player's reactions to it. I bet some of the developers were so smaug that their faces twisted and mutated into the troll faces and have remained that way ever since.

@Confess-A-Bear

The only other RPG that I know of that is coming out this year is Dragon Commander which is the prequel to the Divinity series. It also happens to be an RTS and has action elements as well.

It also has a steampunk setting and the engine you see in those videos has actually been scrapped for a better engine with better graphics but it still plays the same as what you see in those videos. There will also be voice acting for NPC's in the final version.

Apart from that I know of no other RPG's coming out any time soon unless anyone would care to enlighten me?
