Dragon's Dogma is a great game to just have around even if you aren't playing it regularly. And this thread, makes me guffaw all the time. Love dem photos, AND the DD posters! :D

Yep, this thread is the reason I keep coming back to this game :D It keeps me focused on my goals, too. I actually don't intend to buy any games before DA:I so I'll be playing this for the next year or so, I'd imagine... maybe more! Maybe until DD2 :P

Hello.

I didn't follow the last two pages too well, so I'll have a bit of catching up to do, I think! xD

I'm just getting back into Dragon's Dogma/Dark Arisen. My roommate's brother visited last year, and deleted my save so that he could try it out. I lost a character with 350 hours on it! >8(

Luckily, I had an old Cloud save with my character. I lost about 100 hours or so, but at least I didn't have to start from scratch. But getting back to where I was is a bit of a grind. I've pretty much made it to where I was before, except that I haven't done Bitterblack Isle, yet. I think I was about 75 % of the way through when it was deleted, so I have some idea of what I'm in for.

I'll probably start checking into this thread, since you guys seem to know what you're doing! ;D

Just one thing: For the people backing up on flash and thumb drives, you can create a backup save on XBL's Cloud, as well. Obviously, it's still a good idea to have your own backup, but if you're looking for a way to have an additional backup without buying a whole new drive, you can save one character per profile on Cloud. It doesn't take long to configure, and I just use it to back up important game saves with an autosave feature. (I have had to re-load my backup copies of Dead Island characters so many times...)

And thanks for reminding me. I haven't backed up my character for about a month or two, so I should get on that, too!

Thanks for the advice; I'll definitely back my main Arisen/pawn on the Cloud. Sounds like a good idea :D

Firstly...Heya! :) Secondly, a question about the XBL cloud. Do you have to have a Gold Membership to use it, or can the freebie membership be used with it?

Thankfully, I have so many damn cards floating around this house (gracias, husband of mine.... ;) ), so backing up with the thumbdrive still works well for me. However, having another way to save, is never a bad thing. Yup!

Since you talk about XBL, then I offer out my Gamertags: "coldwetn0se" and "FlattestFlea726". The coldwetn0se account has my newest Arisen/pawn, at level 55 currently. The flattestflea account has my max out infinity Arisen and pawn.

I think you will have a blast in BBI; new story and lore, great enemy types, fantastic loot. It's a bit like the Everfall on 'roids.

Actually, I may as well share the little details that I know:

- Deleting your cloud save will sometimes delete the original file during the "synching" process. If you replace the deleted file with a new copy before you load up the parent game next, you'll be fine, but otherwise, there's a bug that can cause you to lose everything. It only happened to me once, so I don't know how common it is, since I've never allowed that situation to occur a second time. To avoid it, just make sure you don't delete the cloud save for any auto-save game, or make sure you replace and update it right away, if you do.

- When you upload a copy of a save to cloud, the next time you load in to the parent game, there will be a pause while the Cloud save "Synchs" with the game save. I don't know exactly why this happens, or what it does, but it won't happen again until the next time you update the cloud save. So, if you want a backup that you can overwrite in case your save goes south (to experiment, for example) it's safe to do so, since the cloud save won't be overwritten unless you specifically choose to do it.

- To update the backup, upload the file to the cloud, and choose "replace" to overwrite the out of date backup.

- To replace a corrupted save, or one that has gone south, copy the cloud file to the hard drive, and select "replace" if prompted.

People can be nervous about saving data that's important to them, so all that information was just to make people who've never used XBL's Cloud more comfortable with it. :)

I'm honestly not sure if Cloud is available to Silver members, but I would guess that it's probably not.

I did play most of BBI last year, before my file was deleted. I know I killed the big eye thing, the Elder Ogre, the Bishop, and experienced much frustration with the surprisingly difficult enemies! But I'm guessing I was about 2/3 to 3/4 of the way through, since I had unlocked both alternate entrances to the dungeon from the island's surface.

My GT is the same as my ID. I just have the one character. The pawn is Ariana (Ari with the language lock turned on.) I developed a reliance on having a party healer while I was playing the vanilla version of the game, and grew frustrated at the inability to find one I liked online (or among the stock pawns, for that matter.) So, after I levelled my pawn through all the careers, I settled on making her a healer/mage. To that end, she's not very offensively powerful, but she is a highy utilitarian character.

She is a Guardian Mendicant, so she defaults to using her powers as her stamina returns. That can be a problem with the Everfell, or BBI, but she's well-designed enough to work in a high level dungeon, even if her damage output will be a little lower. The upside is that she can carry extra weight, and rarely uses consumables, so it's safe to make her the party's backpack, storing whatever I need on her.

She has the max bonuses for both types of damage reduction, magic, and the speed and knockdown bonuses for spell intonation. Also, she looks like Leia from Jabba's palace, which is the coolest thing about her! ;D

@Jeremiah - Thanks for the info! :)

Ahh, gotcha...so you have experienced BBI, to some extent. Just like with the vanilla game, there are sort of "two parts" to BBI. You will find out soon enough. ;)

What level is your Arisen/Pawn? One thing I suspect you will find, once you get to a certain level, is that your need for a healer will be less and less. Even though your pawns might occasionally bite it (lol! Silly AI, and "Death"), they are easy enough to pick back up at the Riftstones. But your Arisen, will be pretty damn tough, once you start getting to certain levels. It's at that point, you may want to look at switching your pawn to a damager. Sorcerer damagers can be a lot of fun, to bring to the party (I have a soft spot for Sorcerer Pawns), and since her Magick Attack will probably be quite high, she would be well suited for it. :) Between Wakestones, Retry and general toughness, your Arisen will eventually do just fine without a designated healer. However, in the meantime, I completely understand your position. (I too use to have a hard time finding decent healers, before this group.)

Look forward to renting Ariana (btw, my lvl.55 Arisen is named Ari ;) )!

Haha! :D

Ari everywhere!

I played the vanilla game for a long time before Dark Arisen came out, so my character is actually really high level (I just checked, 138, which I think was actually my level when my character was deleted!) And you're right, I could certainly get by without a designated healer. I'm mostly using it as a crutch.

It does have an advantage to keep running around with her configured this way, though. I can carry less weight, since I need fewer consumables. I always have a basic supply of Panacea, Vigor potions, healing and stamina stuff (which I increase by about 50% when doing Everfell/BBI.) But I can get away with having only a few each, since I can still count on her for the bulk of my healing. I'll probably switch her up as I make my way back through BBI this time around, especially as I get close to the Elder Ogre and Bishop, which I remember as being really looooooooooooong fights.

I have definitely defaulted to using a traditional FRP setup. My main character is a Magick Archer, so I have everything but Magic Golems covered. Ariana's the healer (she has two elemental offense spells, the advanced healing and curing spells, the binding spell, and the spell that enhances magic and physical defense.) The two rift pawns are a sorceror (I always want voidspell, and avoid certain spells because of annoying mechanics, like the giant whirlwind that blinds you) and a fighter/warrior. The fighter/warrior is always chosen to have one ability that draws enemies (to help the spellcasters finish their spells) and I always makes sure they don't have a launching ability, since I have never successfully used one (and I would rather not have a pawn with an ability that I'll never use!)

It's like I walked out of advanced Dungeons and Dragons with my FRP BA degree from the University of Eighties Role-playing. ;D

@Jermiah - Understood! :D Nothing wrong with that setup, especially in Gransys/Everfall. *thumbsup!*

One thing most of us on this thread came to learn though is, in BBI, grab some Rangers!! Due to the enemy types and terrain, we found that the Rangers were the most useful. As an example, should you rent Chase (my infinity pawn under my FlattestFlea account), you can take a look at his stats, skill set, and inclinations, to get an idea how many of us build our Rangers. Now we all have a few differences. For example, I am a more "hands-on" kind of player, and I tend to set Chase up in the same manner. So, he will usually have two of the new augments you can "purefy" in BBI, that help him cling to foes, and boost his strength. Between a plethora of flying beasties, Metal Golems, and some enemies where you NEED to keep your distance (LOL!), Ranger pawns become staple.

Most of us play MA too, though I tend to switch to Ranger, when I hunt "Death". *evil grin* However, since learning how to take some really cool snapshots using Lyncean Shot (one of the skills under the Assassin Vocation), a few of us are stuck on Assassin. And often dying because we are busy lining up awesome photos, and not paying attention to the current beastie that wants to eat us.

Oh sweet, I'm pretty sure my sorcerer Seel has voidspell; dump that random pawn and rent him :D He's a bit pervy though, so be sure he doesn't creep on poor Ariana

Noted!

I like combining a sorcerer that has Voidspell with Ariana, because it means that all status effects can be cured (except that one that Death hits you with, if I remember right. During my brief visit to BBI in my most recent run, I saw the room I remembered meeting Death in the first time, and just basically snuck around the edges until he saw me, and then ran away!)

I had completely forgotten about the Assassin! xD

I just went to the inn in Gransys, because it had been so long since I'd played the class, I'd forgotten completely which one it was. It's the fighter/strider hybrid. I played through it, but it was probably my first vocation change, from Strider, back in 2012. I'm not sure I've used it since. I made my Main Character the smallest frame, just to make sure I had the highest speed category, and the sword/shield set looks absurdly huge on them, so I stick with the Magick Archer. It's silly, especially now that I can change the height whenever I want, but I've kind of grown attached.

My pawn Rohan (Seel's Arisen) is primarily Assassin; it's awesome! My favorite skill is "Masterful Kill," um, comes in really useful in BBI when you're feeling overwhelmed... just tap Masterful Kill and stand there until something attacks you, then BAM!! your Arisen goes into badass ninja mode

Rohan also has a small frame though he's got some muscles. He makes a good-looking warrior or fighter, but sadly I don't like playing those classes much. Though I did play with a bow and 1H sword as an assassin for a loooong, long time before switching to bow and two daggers. I really missed that double jump!

^ Heh! I get that. I am addicted to the CC. We even had a game we were all playing for a while (okay, it was mostly Shep and I, but everyone else played the guessing game part of it  ), where we altered our pawn/Arisens to look like famous characters or people. Then we took screenshots and posted them for people to "Guess Who". Did I mention we can get a bit silly in here? ;)

Of course, just because we get a little wacky, doesn't mean we don't like working on serious builds, and discussing different aspects of the game. *insert serious face here*

These are the best action shots I ever got:

This is my first attempt to use spoiler tags, so I may have to edit this a few times to get it to work properly.

They were actually from my first BBI playthrough, before my character was deleted. As I've been revisiting DD:DA, I found my folder with the videos I recorded last year, and some of the screenshots. I was actually around level 160, or above, when it was deleted. They stop at level 158, but I know I made it a couple of levels past the last recording.

It was funny watching the video of me figuring out how to kill the giant eye. For the first five minutes, it's all *facepalm* and then

@Curious - Nice Shots. ;)

@Big Evil - It's not you...it's the PS3. My shots from the PS3 are noticeably fuzzier/duller, than the Xbox snapshots. Real shame to, considering they get saved to your HD versus sending them to FaceBook. Though, that is exactly the reason I think they are poorer in quality; they want to make sure you don't load up your PS3 HD with a bunch of screenies. *shrug*

@Jeremiah - That shot is great! Love action shots. Don't feel bad about the tricks to any of the BBI monsters....unless you read a guide, there can be a lot of trial and error. For the Gazer, now I just do this:

I don't think I've ever seen him happier.

In other news, I noticed Seel practicing this neat trick he has to battle gorecyclopes. If one of them charges him while he's busy charging up a spell, he jumps up and bops 'em in the nose with the "heavy" attack. Poor cyclops grabs his hurt nose and the little sorcerer that could goes back to charging up his spell

@Jeremiah - Hello! Thanks for the advice re the Xbox cloud. I have never used it, it just sits there! But I will try it now. I think I need extra back ups just in case. And I could do with a healer at the moment, as spending time in BBI I keep running out of potions!

Arthur, my Arisen is a magick archer (he's magic heavy), which I love, but I know I need to still Max out sorcerer, ranger and assassin. That is my next aim. Thomas my pawn is more geared towards strength based vocations (he maxed out all vocations ) but I wasn't sure whether to balance him out though as I am still in the early 100s.

@Curious - great shots. Thomas is blushing!

Edit - @Coldwetn0se my local CEX store has Animal Crossing so i will check it out!

300 pages and still going strong I see! I wonder if this will continue until DD2 releases? I think we'll see that in 2016 but you never know, Capcom might announce it this year at the Tokyo Game Show and it could be out next. It went that way with Dark Arisen which released several months later but that was an expansion...though DD was announced in 2011 April and released a year later so there's always hope for an announcement later this year.

However the skeptic in me is thinking of how it's in development for next gen consoles. The team will probably have a bigger budget now (what with the success of the original game and its expansion) so it might be a three year development cycle this time as opposed to the two years of the first.

This is one game where I would have enjoyed more expansions. Capcom, the gods of DLC, surprisingly didn't release much for DD asides from those content packs. I was half hoping that Dark Arisen was the beginning of a series of expansions for DD but alas, it was not so.

Last November, when DD received a user choice award: the director, when asked for a sequel for DD, said "In my head, I have a story and setting for the next one, but it’s not one that can be easily done. For example, voices say “coming for PS4!” and it seems to happen quite a whole lot. The possibility to be able to make it might to be growing." Though he also goes on about sequels to DmC (original time-line) and other Capcom series so who knows what he's working on at this moment in time.

Now for some fun:

Yeah, you have to be gold. I'd tried to use the cloud way back when but it kept giving me errors. It never explicitly stated it required a gold account, so I'd assumed it was my terrible internet. I looked online afterward and apparently it does require gold.

I'm a little late to the party here, but welcome to the thread! Always great to see new folks here. My GT is my name here, also have an alt, Wizardy5. My main pawn is a bit of an airhead, but he's lethal when he wants to be. My alt pawn is still a wee child because I can't tear myself away from Dark Souls 2.

OKAY Now this is me practicing my Lyncean Sight... Don't laugh...

*snippity*

I fully do not understand why they are so dark. They looked bright, sharp, and vibrant on my TV screen.

The only one that looks dark is the first one of Seel, and it looks like he was too close to the initial zoomed area. Zihark in the last pic is also too close, I can see where you're aiming - your arrow is still visible. Letting the skill finish zooming usually helps (aim at the wall or the floor or something), but if you're too close to your pawns, they'll disappear regardless if they're on the screen or not before you hit share. It's a little tricky to get the hang of in the beginning.

Comet Shot is another alternative if you're a ranger, it zooms closer, but it doesn't change the distance in which you get creepy no-eyed pawns. You will just get closer pictures of them. :pinched:

The easiest way to get pictures of pawns is to find them roaming in Gransys. They don't fade when you're close, even if you jam your arrow right in their brains. They don't work well with your actual pawns though. I tried for a long while to get a shot of Shinon and Gabs similar to this but as soon as I turned away, Gabs would fade. If I got up close, Shinon would fade. Trying to get that pose with two hired pawns that won't stand still is pretty much impossible.
