@happy - *teehee* ;)

but, but, but......stacking!! Periapts stack. Slap on four puppies at a time, and you are ULTRARISEN!! *flapping Blasphemer's cape and all!* :D

I do still carry the group items though. My usual plan for attack (on the Big'uns), is Steel Nut and Sobering Wine for all, and then depending on if I am utilizing something that damages more with magick (likes staffs and magick bow), then I stack four Demon periapts, and take one group Tanglius (for Strength). I do the opposite if I am using blades or plain bows (swapping Demon for Conquerors, and Tanglius for Salomet potion).

You should really play as sorcerer for several levels if you're going to remain MA.

And if you're going to be magick-based, you should probably switch your pawn to strider/ranger/or even warrior. But that's just personal preference :)

But seriously, to be an effective MA, level up as sorcerer for a bit.

I would have levelled up in sorcerer a bunch of times while I was completing all ten ranks of sorcerer (as I mentioned before, I've completed all 10 ranks in all available vocations for both my pawn and myself.) At this point, I could probably add a bit to my magic offense by going back to Sorcerer, but it would be at the reduced bonus of level 100+. Essentially, I'd trade 1 Physical Offense and 1 Magical Defense each level for 3 Magic offense in stead of 1 Magic Offense.

I'm not sure how the math plays out on that, but I've rarely used the staff for anything other than utility stuff (the float travel to reach hidden items, or the ice spell to break openings in vulnerable walls) so I think I'd basically be adding a small amount of damage to the Magic Bow. That makes sense, but I do split my offense pretty evenly between the bow and the daggers, so I'm getting the right attribute bonuses for my playstyle, and I actually love the fact that I take very little damage from magic (I think my character still retains some of the old bonus from pre-Dark Arisen, where you got 3 Magic Defense per level from Magick Archer.)

From what I can tell, the Sorcerer's Rank 10 Acuity and Awareness (I think those are the names of "Greatly Increase Magic" and "Greatly Reduce Magic Damage") which I have equipped are actually impacting my Magic offense and defense more than any other individual bonus, so I'm looking at other attributes.

Since I already get a really big Magic Offense bonus, I might try bumping my Physical Defense a bit more... that's more where I'm leaning... towards doing Warrior for a bit, or maybe Fighter, to fill in that physical defense gap.

@Jeremiah - your play-style sounds a lot like mine. In fact, I probably spend more time with my blades, as MA, then the bow or staff. However, I do still use both of them (depending on situation, baddies, and what class pawns I have with me).

So more often than not I load my augments as such: Acuity, Clout, Opportunism, Adhesion, Attunement, Sinew. I double up the two magick enhancing augments, since my strength outweighs my magick by over 100 points. Since I pretty much kill most of the enemy types that are of Garm size and up, by jumping on them and hacking away with the blades, Adhesion and Opportunism are very complimentary to that style. If I am sporting a less than awesome (defensively speaking) armor attire, then I sometimes trade out Attunement for a defensive augment. But, my approach to defense (at least after I reached a particular level), was "Best defense, is a strong Offense". Kill them fast, before they "get ya!"

That's why I always rolled an all-archer squad. You don't need healing if your enemies are already dead.  ;) (I'm channeling Fist of the North Star, apparently).

Also, it's Jeremiah's birthday today! Happy birthday again, @Jer!

For Dai, my MA, I use Bastion, Sinew, Ferocity, Conservation, Clout, Acuity. He carries two daggers and a magick bow. I don't need the weaker magick-boosting augment because his base magick offense stat is pretty awesome. Ferocity and Clout help him pummel the heck out of anything that isn't responding to magick (which is... not much). I have immolation for frostwyrms, ninefold bolt for firedrakes, and about the only thing the requires pummeling is the thunderwyvern. Conservation lets Dai shoot his bow without pausing for breath for nigh on forever. Sinew, carries more stuff. Bastion, well, he's a wee thing, so it helps.

@Curious - Actually (or I should say, "unfortunately"), Conservation doesn't work on Magick Bows or Magick Shields (http://dragonsdogma....ki/Conservation).

Well that's good to know :P I'll swap it out for maybe that extra magick booster.

Happy b-day, Jeremiah!

@Jeremiah - Happy birthday  :wizard:  Hope you have a lovely day!

Re playing as a MA, I do prefer using the bow (particularly on the offline UR Dragon to stock up on wakestones).  I only ever use Hunter Bolt, Ninefold Bolt and Ricochet Hunter.  I'd be lost if I used another MA bow skill!  I do use my daggers when necessary and always use Hundred Kisses, but lately I have become a bit obsessed with using Immolation and Magick Rebalancer (saves on the periapts!)

I'm not sure if I remember the right names, but I equip the Great increases to Magic offense and defense, and physical strength and defense (I think Awareness, Acuity, Clout, and Bastion.)

The remaining two are Sinew (I like to move fast) and the one that lets you climb objects faster. I know that last one is kind of a waste, but I I do like doing everything really fast! xD

Whenever I start a playthrough over, I swap Acuity (I think, Magic Offense) for the one that increases the ferocity of core skills, until I switch back from Strider to Magick Archer in Gransys.

I'm undoubtedly going to change some things up as I work my way through BBI. I pretty much switch tactics on a dime with my Magick Archer. Lots of dagger work, lots of bow work, and tonnes of climbing on enemies (it took me a long time to realize that when attacking large enemies by clinging to them, your DPS is significantly higher using Light melee attacks than Strong melee attacks, which I think is backwards, but theryahavit.)

It's going to be weird playing around with different dagger and magic bow skills. I'll have to get used to them.

Yeah, I'm guessing the light attacks just seem to figure a higher rate of damage due to the speed that is attached to said attack (over the "heavy attack", that is). If I have popped a liquid vim for one of the big bads, I have grappled, then I use Hundred Kisses, with the daggers, or Dire Gourge with a sword, if playing Assassin. I still use both of those with out using a Vim, but I have to pay better attention to my Stamina, and either switch to regular light attack, and/or pause and consume some mushrooms or other stamina replenishing pots.

I go heavy offense with everything, though I add a little defense for Mage/Sorcerer. When I play either of those two classes, I use Acuity, Attunement, Articulacy, Inflection, Gravitas, and Sinew. Inflection gives me some added defense, and Gravitas helps me from getting interrupted with my casting. Sinew....well....I tend to never leave home without it. :D

Now, I do admit, under level 100, it isn't uncommon for me to use Bastion or Awareness, going into some of the beefier fights. I will usually swap out either Attunement or Vehemence for whichever defense (regular or magick), that I am more lacking, or I base it on the type of attacks I might get hit with (melee versus magick). But again, that really depends on the circumstances. If I am building well enough defensively, and I have some good armor pieces, then I will feel less inclined to add the defensive Augments, once I am over level 60 or so.

Should be noted though, I do NOT play on hardcore. One of these days, I may give it a go. But I generally don't have a whole lot of patience for dying a lot. LOL! I do enjoy some challenge, but having to redo fights repeatedly is not something I deal with well. I curse like a sailor, irritate my husband, and scare the pants off my dog. If he wore pants.

;)

Chase is back to blonde with dark eyes. Think I may have put the wrong "blonde" on him though. However, better to have a slightly off-color, than doing the full on CC make-over, which I came soooo close to doing (have wanted to make a Patsy and Edina duo for some time. ;) ).

I will speak in defense of the Hard difficulty by saying that there's something really satisfying about getting a "Large Coin Pouch" dropping from every little goblin that you kill! xD

I don't find that I die in Hard Mode, but it definitely takes longer to kill the enemies (at least, the ones that actually have a substantial health pool.)

I've debated turning the difficulty back down to Normal for my BBI run, but I made it as far as I did last time in Hard, so I figure I'll manage this time, too. Hopefully.

I finally said fudge it, this is it, no more.

dddouble2.jpg

Now I have to work on Valmiro.

I tell ya, I can't wait until I get Zi into postgame. That way I won't have to keep editing my Arisen into Shinon and then Shinon into other people every ten minutes.

LOL! Ahh Shep. I had a feeling you were busy making fabulous photos. (especially when I found Barninon in the Rift ;) ). I ended up taking a full run through BBI and taking down AD. Godsbaned for lvl.3 weapon/armor, and picked up a bunch of lvl.2 weapon/armors as well. Already sent some home with Castor, and will send some on with Zi. Just now switched to Ari/Castor, to get them prepped for Grigori. Will save the actual confrontation for tomorrow.

The weather is ghastly right now, so indoor activities will be the norm for this weekend.

BTW, do you currently have all sorcerers on your team?? :D Love it when they sync up spells, and talk about how much more powerful it is to "match spells".

I did, for the first time ever. I'd never heard a pawn say "I'll mirror your spell." Suddenly that's all they were saying.

It got a bit crazy while we were carting the hydra head. Someone spots a harpy and decides that this is the way to take it out.

Yeah, let's ignore the ox we're supposed to guard and just call down some meteors to kill some silly little birdwomen.
