Are you asking the part about skyrim or Dragon's Dogma in that comment?

If it was the Skyrim part, to be fair, the writing wasn't that great. Even the main plot was a bit mediocre, imo.

So, tomorrow, the game finally comes out! My friend -- who doesn't really give much crap whether or not Capcom are being huge dicks -- is buying it, so I'm going to go over and watch. I gotta keep the resolve strong, though. No money till it's actually worth what I paid for... that being the 'full' game.

@TNT1991: I think the writing for DD is going to be below Skyrim, even.  It is Capcom we're talking about.. haha.  I think the fun of the game will be in wandering around and killing s***.

As far as Best Buy: Aw. I had good childhood memories of Best Buy. I lived in straight up suburbia and Best Buy was really the only alternative to rent in my area during 1990s-mid2000s, before Game Fly or Netflix, etc. came out. BB had this summer pass where you could rent any game and hold it as long as you wanted, which my brother and I took advantage of to play a lot of different titles. The best part was there was a Cold Stone Creamery next door.

namely at skyrim. I don't see DD being any better really, if the OXM review is right its really not worth mentioning.

A lot of places are giving DD decent marks, in the 7's and 8's. Personally I was stoked for this game months ago, but the dlc stunt made me cancel my pre-order. Everyone who's playing it is simply loving it, and I can see why, but I just have to hope I don't regret my decision. By the end of the summer you should be able to find a used copy for 30 or 20 something.

Skyrim actually has a lot of gems in it when it comes to the story. You just have to be willing to not be so lazy and read or seek out hidden quests.

Am I the only one that thinks the dragon's voice doesn't match the model? I guess I expected the stereotypical deep, raspy voice or something, rather than just a regular dude voice.

No, I'm with you on that one. I really expected a stereo-typical Dragon's voice as well. I the rumbling feral voice just suits them properly.

lol yeah. But at least (with DD) I know before hand that the story might be cr*p, instead of getting my hopes up for an "OMG! Amazing!!" story and then getting crushed later on {unlike *cough* ME3 & DA2*cough*}.
I still want to give this game a chance (maybe it's soo bad that it's good?), but I'm still not going buy it on day one until I hear some trustworthy reviews...never again for any game from any company (no matter how much I want to get it:pinched:).

And about renting games:
I still have a blockbuster where I live, but a couple of them had went out fo business with in the past few months. D**n you netflix/redbox! :(
Maybe, swapping games is best at this point. *sigh*  Goozex, here I come.

Hmm... Gamesradar came out with a review.

To summarize:

Gamesradar score: 7/10

You'll love
-  A grueling, challenging world
- Character classes with vastly different play styles
- Designing combos rather than earning +1 Intelligence
You'll hate
- Uneven visual presentation
- Repetitious dialog
- The steep learning curve
I remember when everyone was comparing this to Dragon Age. Now having seen the gameplay for this, all I can think is:

"But... This game actually looks FUN."

Yeah I try to not get my hopes high for any game. I've had two bad ones back to back so meh. True enough on reviews, I'm not getting it because of the DLC being in the game already.

And yeah I hate the red box as well lulz. We have a block buster here but...I don't think it will be around long.

Eh I'm going to wait for a bit before getting DD, see how everyone reacts to it and if it's worth actually buying, need the money more to build up a new computer this summer anyway. Just don't think it's worth buying day 1 when I know Capcom will release a sh*tload of dlc afterwards.

Couple of fresh reviews are out!

Joystiq. 2/5
The Koalition. 8/10
The Guardian. 4/5
IGN. 7.5/10
The Verve. 7/10
Metro. 7/10
Hardware Heaven. 85/100
BeefJack. 9.3/10
Edge. 8/10
Push Square. 8/10
Eurogamer. 7/10

Long story short... about a 7-8/10.

Gameplay/Combat: YAY! (shining point of the game)
World: Lots of room to play in.
Story: What story? Lulz.

Decent scores but I'm looking forward to hearing what Angry Joe has to say about all this.
OF course no matter what he says I'm not touching this game until the "not ripping you off by charging your for what should've been there to begin with" edition.

... which would be the smartest decision to make!  I think it's important we don't condone s***ty business practices.  I'm lookin at'chu Capcom!

Don't get me wrong, no one was more excited for this game than me. However, this DLC stunt is not okay with me and it makes the game feel like it's worth a lot less than they're advertising it for. Same thing with ME3.

Overall those are pretty solid reviews. Hopefully Capcom quits pulling the DLC crap in the future. If it was out on PC, I'd get it nonetheless.

its only real weakness is the story tbh. If you want a game you can play for hours, this is it. Once PC comes out, Im totally picking this up. Im ganna make a Pawn, He'll be named Jake Justice, a 205lbs 7footer who likes to stab people.

Look for a LetsPlayer named "Mangg" on Gameanyone.com. That website is like a hub FOR Letsplayers BY letsplayers. Check out his vid and see what you think.

edit: btw the game is by CAPCOM...watch out for innevitable DLC tomfoolery.

So I had a look at some reviews and this is what I generally found as the 'cons':

- Too Hard (*)
- Clunky Controls
- No Lock-On (*)
- Annoying UI
- Pawns won't keep quiet (*)
- Generic setting and story
- Game doesn't warn you about strong enemies (*)
- Inconsistent graphics
- Some wonky animations
- 'It's not Skyrim' (Well no sh*t)

Yet a lot of those seem like pro's (*) if you ask me, I want a challenging game that can surprise me with tougher enemies, also I hear pawn's conversations can be controlled and you can shut them up apparently. Still going to wait for a while for the inevitable dlc crap that will spew forth, need the money to properly ascend to a proper PC anyway.

My copy should arrive back at home later today. Hopefully it arrives where I'm at by next monday. I pre-ordered it because I knew I couldn't count on any of the shops where I'm at for a copy.

Exactly, jolly, I was reading up on the ones that gave it bad marks, and they all seem the same "wah, the game is too hard." I don't really understand their point with that. Dark Souls, especially Demon's Souls, never tells you what levels are too hard for you, yet that game recieved so many positive reviews.

I think the only bad part of the game is the story, which I was kind of preparing myself to be disappointed. I know Capcom has never written anything like Torment or New Vegas DLC.

When I was creating a character and listening to the background music, I felt like I was playing Dynasty Warriors again, which made me kind of smile since I haven't played them in so long.

@SOLID_EVEREST

Yeah, I noticed that also. I, personally, find that to be one of the game's shining points. It's interesting to, for once, not be able to just walk around wherever you please and kill everything in sight once you reach a certain level. DD's approach is more realistic, in that you wouldn't really be wandering off in the woods without any knowledge of what could be lying in wake... you have to plan and be mindful. That also translates into the night vs. day thing DD has going on.

Yes, I'm sure I'll be screaming profanities and getting frustrated because I decided to take a shortcut during a quest and got smothered in the process... but, I think that makes for an interesting experience overall.

I'm still on the fence about purchasing. How is loot? Is there a good risk vs. reward system? Combat is part of the reason I love ARPGs but epic looting is just as important (if not more). :)
