Played it for like three hours today. The oreorder bonus was useless. But the game is fun. The story in nearly nonexistent, but adventuring around is a lot of fun. And what ppl say is true. You get a sense of danger. Cause if you don't have a mage in your party, there's no way to heal other than food you can find. Fun stuff so far, but the lack of direction is strange. I literally have no idea what I'm supposed to be doing, so I'm just sorta doing stuff.

How's the actual combat? That's the sole reason I've been itching to try this haha. Been downloading the demo for the last 4 hours, and it's at like 50%. XD

Fun and hard usually don't go together, so I assume it's not hard in a frustrating way? Do you ever feel like a badass, or is it like every fight is using up your resources and slowly beating you into the dirt? :o

Apperantly you can buy in game currency with real money. Fraser said he bought 5 dollars worth.

I am broken hearted to hear people say their buying in game currency with their real money.... they have no concept of value and they are telling Capcom that this BS is working.
Capcom is worse than EA as far as I'm concerned.

Honestly, I don't have any real problem with that.  I remember EXP DLCs for certain JRPGs as well.  Its not like its forcing anyone to buy it unless they make certain items ludicrously expensive.  If there are people who want to buy that, why not?  It's not taking away anything you can't already get in-game.

I'm starting to wish they would.... Then more people would have a problem with it.

Got to play for most of the evening yesterday and had a blast!  I played as a mage, and my pawn was a male fighter.  I find it to be pretty straight-forward yet there's not much hand holding, but there are quests markers above NPCs' heads, and I don't think you can turn them off.  They are different kinds of markers, though, from telling you of new quests or nothing but info on a current quest.  Those who have played RPGs in the past shouldn't have any issues, but I can see how those who haven't might find some things jarring.

From a technical side, I'm not a graphics *****, but the rendering of some of the clothing and characters look kinda meh, particularly in cutscenes.  I'm playing on PS3, btw.  The performance is quite good, fluid as you go through your inventory and quest logs and scan the map, and I've yet to hit any stuttering while roaming; the only time the frame rate drops is when it autosaves, and there are instances of NPC pop-in, but it's not that bad.  Apparently the game doesn't install?  For a game of this size I'm quite surprised it doesn't.  Normally as it's installing I peruse the instruction book, but instead I was greeted with B'z.  It's not a bad song, and it only plays during the title screen, but it's not something I would relate to a fantasy RPG.  The in-game music is really appropriate however and really lovely.  The environments and monsters are incredible.  I would say the devs put most of their attention into these.  The lighting is just gorgeous; watching the transition from night to day, the evening sun reflecting on buildings is impressive, though there's banding in the night sky as it does so.  I haven't spent much time out at night, and certainly not out in the wild because I'm just not ready for that yet.  But I am looking forward to it--I love survival horror games--but I won't attempt it until I'm leveled up moreso.

The village and capital that I've been to so far are seperate cells, but once you're inside there are absolutely no loading screens when entering buildings.  (Think Fable.)  From what I've seen so far of the open world, I've haven't hit a loading screen anywhere.

Talking with NPCs is more or less non-existant, but it's easy to role-play in this regard.  From what I've seen you can only choose between yes and no for accepting quests, but there are different variations of responding yes or no.

The quest list is fairly easy to navigate and you can set your priority mission if you choose, though I will stress this:  some quests expire.  So far, I've only had a few small quests expire, like finding a book and retrieving certain flowers for a medic out in the wilds, and the reason they expired was because I progressed in the main plot by traveling to the capital, so it wasn't like there was a physical time limit on the quests.  Whether or not later the time limit may be applied to more important quests I don't know, but I'm guessing yes, and they were using those as a way to train the player to finish quests in a timely manner.  Also, maybe to limit the amount of game-breaking bugs due to too many quests, but that's just my opinion.

Boy, does this game promote exploring, which was something I was happy to see!  I've come across so many chests and crates containing loot and herbs and flasks of oil even just treading around the village you start off in, and out in the wild it gets better.  Chests/sacks/crates are often hidden or have to be climbed to get to or, if you're a mage, levitating to.  I found a chest that looked like only a mage with levitation could get to, so there seem to be class restricted things present.  (I also heard of a quest that benefited the PC if they were short.  Nice touch, I think.)  Gold is fairly easy to come by.  By the time I got to Gran Soren I had over 22K and that was in about four-five hours.  Leveling up also seems to happen rather quickly.  I think I made it to level 11 by the time I finished playing last night.  You're well rewarded for even finishing the smallest of quests.  The inventory I had no issues navigating around, and I just want to mention this:  food, if left unused for too long, goes bad, flowers eventually wilt, you can layer clothing!  If you have an airtight flask you can store food or something that will spoil so that it won't.  I just find these little attention to details brilliant.

Besides the monsters the game throws at you in the beginning to progress the story, I haven't come across any others in the wilds except for an ogre who kept annihilating my party, and by then it was late and I was tired, but I won't use that excuse to why I failed because I know my party wasn't leveled up enough to take him on.  I stupidly took on an escort quest, so here I am with this guy following us around so I feel like I'm forced to finish the quest, but I kept failing miserably.  As soon as I accepted the quest, the guy was automatically at my side, but I'll have to see if setting the mission to non-priority would make him disappear, though I doubt it.  So I guess you could say that was my biggest issue so far.  Not to mention that I was the only mage and I kept neglecting to heal my party.  (I know, I know.  Stupid.)  But I want to be a destruction mage, dang it!  Going against harpies and bandits and goblins was not an issue though.

Most likely now that I know the basic mechanics of the game, I will scrap this character and start all over again.  I have a habit of doing this in RPGs.  Some kind of compulsive disorder perhaps, I don't know.  The character creator is extensive to say the least.  I did end up with nice looking characters who look pretty much the same in-game, which is a plus.

I personally had some trouble with the controls.  Just coming off of playing Skyrim, I kept pressing L2 to run but instead sheathed/unsheathed my staff.  And the spells that need charging, I insist on holding down the button to do so when you don't have to, and instead I should be using that time to change the area/enemy/body part I want to target.  That's just me though.  I just need to get used to it.  I also want to mention that for how long I played, I really didn't feel like I got anywhere, and I mean that in a good way.

Yikes, sorry for all the text.  I kept thinking of more and more I wanted to mention.  Tl:dr--I had a lot of fun, and I can easily see this being my personal goty.

So, I was over at my friend's house.. who bought the game and, from all of you who have played the full version, are you also getting this ridiculous and insulting pop up to buy DLC once in awhile?

I mean, seriously, Capcom. You guys are money grubbing f****** retards. Really? Really?! Glad I didn't buy it just yet, though I admit I'd be even more frustrated if I couldn't go over to my friend's and play, cause it's really not a bad game.  It's just an awful company.

Wait. So on top of locking off portions of the map to sell later in DLC's, adding in DLC on the disc, and selling rift crystals for money, they're also advertising their DLC's while you're playing the game? Yeah, I'm not picking this sh*t up at all now.

Yeah i didn't notice the dlc pop-up ad until this morning, Capcom has no shame. Also look at the grey unaccessable areas of the map it just screams future dlc.

You should at least rent the game. I'm still in the beginning but it's pretty decent so far, except Rook he creeps me the f*** out.

Actually, the first thing you see when you start the game is: "DRAGON'S DOGMA DLC IS NOW AVAILABLE!" then a few options of things that are already -- what I assume are the disk locked stuff?  They're advertising 10 quests you can pay for, right off the bat... with 10 more every week.  Then you get the little pop up on the bottom of the screen like, I would say.. every hour or 2 hours.  It's like this shining scroll with text on it -- like, blatant: "LOOK AT ME!"

I'm just.. wow.

Indeed. I just really can't understand how daft they are in regards to how they approach DLC. Is the pay-for-more model popular or typical in Japan? Is there like a cultural divide somewhere? Because it's kind of insulting from the perspective of a Western consumer.

@M U P P 3 T Z Nope from what i've seen it's mostly Capcom, and they make EA look like boyscouts by comparison. Capcom only sees DLC as a source of extra cash instead of it being a vehicle to improve on actual gameplay or story. So far UMvC, Mercenaries 3D, SFvT are prime examples of Capcom's filthiness. Also with the backlash SFvT received threre's hope that Capcom will reconsider their DLC strategy but only if the consumers continue to protest them.(E.g. not buying DLC)

I wouldn't be surprised if they took the aim & shoot function out of the game, and package it as dlc.

I gurantee they will.
Capcom isn't seeing us who are complaining about it their seeing the all the people who bought the game and don't have any problem with any of it.
That map picture just looks like a giant F you to me.  Capcom expects me to bend over and wait for their go ahead to get raped.  I would feel dirty playing this game and all this business would sour any fun I could find out of it.
And it being a fun game just makes it worse because before this I could just shrug it off and ignore what Crapcom is doing.
Don't kid yourselves if your looking forward to Resident Evil 6 it will be just as bad.... Its working why wouldn't they?

Last Capcom game I bought was Resident Evil 5, and it was the gold edition like about a month ago, so I got it for next to nothing. I was going to buy this game in a few months or when they released the goty edition, but It's not even worth the whole thing. They should realize how ridiculous this is, when Skyrim has a huge world that is completely open and accessible from the beginning and this piece of sh*t lops you off from the get-go. It's not worth the sixty they're charging.

They like so many others now answer to the stockholders now, not the consumer Andriod. And most of the Former don't know a thing about the later.

Honestly while a bit of a joke/warning. Though I put my five bucks down on RE6, I fully expect after E3 I'll be using that for soemthing else.

Capcom already is planning to sell 7 million copies of RE6 in the first week. And well that just shows how far out into lala land they really are. Frankly its concerning, but if I hear the words "On disc content" thats not part of some crappy multiplayer mod I won't even play, then I'm done.

Campcom can give into its task masters, and no longer be a company next year. A crash in the industry might not be such a bad thing now.

I'm inclined to agree. A huge set back in sales will help these developers realize the nickle and diming their customers is a way to guarantee that they will lose them. I hope kickstarter gains in strength, I've got two albums from it and I know that someone who produces a product with the intent of making a good product and keeping their customers will always make better things than someone seeking to mass produce something.
