@Aedan - I pretty much exclusively use Ranger and Assassin, which gives me access to the zooming skills, Meteor/Comet Shot and Keen/Lyncean Sight. I also always - ALWAYS - have an elite lantern lit, and the radiance augment equipped. I usually also have a ring of desiccation, which makes me immune to the drenched status, allowing me to roll in water to my heart's content.
To get good shots of your pawns, either pick them up and put them down to start their "dusting off" animation to keep them in place, or talk to them to do the same thing. Back away several feet, enter Lyncean/Comet and aim away from them - ideally you'd want to aim exactly in the opposite direction from them, but I usually aim at the floor to my right. Once the skill is finished zooming, hit start and look around. If your pawns aren't appearing in the spot they were, or are transparent, that means you're too close, so you'd have to move farther away. Before you unpause to do so, make sure you still have the aim button held down, because restarting the skill eats away precious seconds. Oh, and if your pawns look poorly rendered and have no friggin' eyes, that means you're too far. You have to go pretty far away for this to happen.
Battle shots are much easier. Say you're in a fight with a bunch of goblins in a hallway. Run alongside the action (not into it) and enter lyncean sight, making sure not to aim directly at anything - it's best to aim at the floor or the wall). Enter the share menu and look around at what you've got. Do this seven billion more times. I sometimes find a shot that I know would be better a few frames of animation down the road, so I hammer the start button over and over again until i get what I want.
If you still care about not dying in fights, maybe ignore the "seven billion more times" thing, because you will die if you don't pay attention.
Happy picture taking!
