I have to say this game is surprisingly fun. Played for four hours today as a Mage the challenging combat and great effects make it really fun for me.

Wait. So on top of locking off portions of the map to sell later in DLC's, adding in DLC on the disc, and selling rift crystals for money, they're also advertising their DLC's while you're playing the game? Yeah, I'm not picking this sh*t up at all now.

Wow... wow... wowie wow wow... I'm having a hell of a time wrapping my head around that one. Did Nexon buy out Capcom while I wasn't looking or something?

Seriously, I thought the "Buy DLC" popup after you beat ME3 was bad, but this... this is bad. If they pull something like this with RE6, it's game over for Capcom - I'll never buy another product from them again.

How's the combat ?  Better than Skyrim but not as good as Dark Souls ?

Better than Skyrim, oh yeah. Depth and variety in DD combat. It is kind of complex, though. The game can be rough for the very casual player.

Thank goodness I disliked RE: 5; therefore, I didn't buy any of the DLC. Unless they make a RE: Outbreak File: 3 or something, I doubt I will ever buy another Resident Evil game for full price. They are okay games now, but not the worth going out of my way to pay full price for anymore.

@Evewyn:

Your information sounds awesome! My character is pretty short, so I guess I will get to play that quest you mentioned. It sounds like a GoTY from the information you posted. I love games that pay attention to the little detail. Sounds like it might dethrone Skyrim, but I doubt it since all the reviewers are straight up Bethesda's butt. The reviewers must have been rushing through everything since they say they completed it in 35 hours. If you take your time, I bet it can easily be a 100+ hour game.

On another note, it sucks that they have piled so much DLC from the start. The map thing is just plain bull, but it sounds exactly like the Broken Steel DLC from Bethesda that was heavily praised even though it was a crap move.

Man...people say this is a casual game but goodness I got my butt handed to me by a bunch of bandits. It really is "explore at your own risk."

It's like "ooh what's over there?" *super lizards come out*

"Lol cyclops I killed one already" *gets reaped*

"Niceee it's really dark!" *skeletons pop out*

If anyone needs a fighter pawn, add me (PS3) so you can hire him for free.

If the combat is alot better than Skyrim's, I wouldn't doubt it that the game is better.  It's not like Skyrim had these great 'story' elements or rpg mechanics anyway.

Unless it's just COMPLETE DOG**** in other areas, of course.

Actually, the first thing you see when you start the game is: "DRAGON'S DOGMA DLC IS NOW AVAILABLE!" then a few options of things that are already -- what I assume are the disk locked stuff?  They're advertising 10 quests you can pay for, right off the bat... with 10 more every week.  Then you get the little pop up on the bottom of the screen like, I would say.. every hour or 2 hours.  It's like this shining scroll with text on it -- like, blatant: "LOOK AT ME!"

I'm just.. wow.

Yup,  that just made sure I won't buy this game.  It was on my radar,  sounded really cool,  but I'm not buying anymore games that've been chopped up to be sold as DLC.

Same thing that happened with Risen 2,  that was another one I was really interested in,  but then I found out you couldn't access everything on the disc you bought without paying extra.

These publishers are really hell-bent on DLCing themselves out of buisness.  I feel bad for Microsoft and Sony,  both of their new consoles are going to fail because these publishers are taking DLC to ridiculous heights and ignoring consumers.  Expensive new consoles,  plus games that are DLC'd until they cost $80-$100,  means gamers are going to sit on the fence and games won't sell,  until ultimately the consoles never take off because people didn't buy into them.

(There's other reasons too,  like the fact that there's no really strong new properties in this generation that'll generate excitement,  and the high probability that the games for the new machines will be just more sequels to Shooters.  Stagnant games,  and a high cost to play them won't help anything either.)

Played the demo today, and because my Xbox can't read discs, it's the only thing I played today.

I've got to be the most hardcore sonofab*tch when it comes to slaying griffons by now. I swear I can kill that thing with my eyes closed. XD

Anyho, I really want the game. Despite what the person above is complaining about, the game itself is fun. If you don't want to spend money on DLC, don't. It's that simple really.

I thought I can take on the griffon as easily as I did during the demo. I was wrong. So wrong.

I don't see why people are complaining about the dlc info at the start. I mean sure they could've made it less visible (for lack of better word). I mean Mass Effect 3 does it too. You know...that info scrolling below your GAW status in the main menu. "Buy From Ashes today!"

Bottomline is: DD is fun.

Story is a bit meh. Don't expect Bioware-level of voice acting but it's not as terrible as say..Two Worlds 2. Cinematics is okay. The combat and exploration is really the game's bread and butter.

Well no Action rpg is as good as Dark Souls. But as a Mage I spend most of time trying to keep my pawns up because they are helpful but man casting the level 2 lighting spell and watching 6 bolts of lighting rip apart your enemies if fun. I tried a Strider out I liked it and so plan on doing an Archer player through later. It's definitely better than Elder Scrolls combat system and better than Kingdom of Amalur imo.

I really like how challenging it is currently. I haven't been forced to run away from fights in a game in awhile but when you see a dragon at level 9 you better haul ass or two Ogres with a group of hobgoblins!

Well, just bought this today, and am very impressed with it. My thoughts:

- Combat is very well done. Especially enjoy climbing up monsters backs and whacking them with my blades. Little hard to manually aim with bow and arrow, but it rewards skill and effort.
- Traversing the land is f***ing terrifying. Even ordinary bandits will kill you if you're not careful. I don't even want to think how scary it will be to travel at night.
- Pawn system is a very unique concept. Though it's a labor to find really good pawns.
- This game knows how to do giant monsters. Much better than any RPG I've come across.
- Visuals are a little dated, even for an open world game.

Here's how it goes:

"There, master! Wolves!"
"Wolves hunt in packs!"
"Wolves!"
"Saurians!"
"CHIMERA!"

And then your pawns are suddenly silenced. Don't go into Cursewood in the dark. :)

I've put about 5 hours into the game and here are my thoughts so far:
Pros: Combat for this style of game is near perfect if you go into a battle unprepared you will die quickly. Tactics are a must you can't just run up to and hit the attack button wildly on some monsters or you will die. Fighting the larger monsters is cool because your team has to work together. The Pawn system is also cool and aside from your main Pawn you need to change your party because hired pawns don't level up.

Cons: Pawn banter can get annoying after the same lines over and over. The story is weak you just get thrown into a world without much backstory and pawns aren't explained very well. Game breaking bugs I've fallen through the floor twice and had to restart. The first time I jumped through the floor the second time I was walking down the same path I did a few times before and I just fell. I almost forgot no fast travel which is just lame.

Overall I've give the game an 8/10 I really enjoy it the combat is super addicting if it had fast travel and a better story it would be perfect.

My one issue so far with the game: I've never been able to see who hired my pawn, and i've never seen any reviews from other players. I get the items, but that's it. The "accessing server" window hangs there a while, and then I'm back to playing. I'd really like to see who gave me a wakestone shard, because those things are pricey and rare.

If you hired a big lump of a fighter named Crenshaw, (named after Jimmy Clem's delightful character from Boggy Creek II, a MST3K movie) that's mah boy. He's far too eloquent in the game, though.

That's probably something they'll fix by the next patch, Shepen.

God, I could use a better fast travelling system. I heard that you get a special item on a new game plus that allows you to instant travel to Gran Soren whenever you want to and it never expires. It's a permanent item you can purchase through the Rift Stores. It's like the updated version of the stones you can get for 5000 RCs.

My current levels are 21-22 or so at the moment. My pawn is a fighter and I use him like a tank.

I just realized players could effectively use the pawn system as an easy way to trade items that are too good to just sell to the merchant. Assuming, of course, that the other person is truth worthy?

Why don't more games just have a trade system built in? Image IPB

RIGHT? I want to help my friends out and give uber gear to their noobies.  But, alas, console games say: "NO."

From what I've seen of Dragon's Dogma, though.. this game would have been an awesome MMO.  There's already a lack of story... and Gransys is a huge town devoid of any people and all the doors of the houses are locked.  Why can't we have fun times?

So I realized I have 5o poison arrows, 30 Sleeper arrows etc. and I have no idea how to equip them or have a pawn use them

I'm a Magick Archer and my main pawn is a Ranger. How do I use them?!

I think all you have to do is click on them in your inventory, select use, then exit out. When you string your bow, you should see an amount of arrows on the right-hand side of the screen (like a little arrow icon with the number of arrows).

That's all there is to it. Same step with pawns, except you just select give in the inventory first.

Edit: Lol, just noticed when this was posted. I'm sure you figured it out by now.
