He started life as all pawns do - with nothing but his master's safety on his mind. He didn't even take proper care of himself,
becoming overweight and beginning to go bald from stress. (Alynna got into a lot of trouble in her early days). He realized that in order to take care of Alynna, he had to take care of himself first. While talking with seventeen pawns named Daenerys or misspellings thereof, he learned of a plastic surgeon in the Encampment that could make his weight issues a thing of the past. He headed over there, forked over the required rift crystals and in a few short minutes, he could look down and actually
see his feet which he hadn't been able to do in years.
Then he met Gabrielle.

He'd never seen a pawn like her before, he was used to the underdressed preteen mages that the Rift seemed to be bursting with. Gabrielle was different, she was intelligent, brave, strong, everything
he wanted to be. Luckily for him, Alynna and Gabrielle struck up a friendship, and they all travelled as a team for quite some time. He'd had pawn friends before, but they were more 'coworkers' than friends. He wouldn't want to socialize with them outside of battle. With Gabrielle, he'd make up excuses to keep her around - he needed advice on which bow to buy, what was the best skill set for daggers, things like that. Things that Alynna, who had never picked up either weapon in her life, would know nothing about.
There were occasionally questions Gabs didn't know the answer to, if it hadn't been for the timely arrival of Briana, they might still have been piecing together little nuggets of information regarding the technical aspects of combat. She became almost like a mother to Shinon, or at least a wacky aunt. Well, until she suggested they all show some skin and run through BBI. She became less motherly after that.

Team Sexy was born that day, and Shinon was forever changed. The Cursed King's Belt became less an article of clothing and more an extension of himself. Wearing it, he became the pawn he wanted to be, not so much
nude, but he felt brave, strong, ...I suppose not so much intelligent either, but intelligence was for sissies who couldn't whack things with giant weapons.
As time went on, he became less reliant on the crutch that was the Cursed King's Belt, but with the arrival of pawns like Quintin and Iorveth, feelings of inadequacy would return.
He would often try to convince himself that there was a massive flaw with each of them - Quintin was obviously on steroids, Iorveth was absurdly tall and blind in one eye, for example - but would rarely succeed, thus picking up the CKB once more to make himself feel better about his average self.
But then everyone started wearing one. It was no longer "his". He needed something to set him apart from the others. One evening he and Alynna were clearing out the Shadow Fort for some soldiers, Alynna had brought her camera to take a video of their trip, which was something relatively new for her. Shinon began holding a framae blade like a microphone, playing at being a news reporter.

They both had a good laugh, but Shinon actually really enjoyed being in front of a camera. He wondered if he could do it for real.
He could. What began as something to hopefully boost his self-confidence became something much, much bigger. He was being recognized. He got
fan mail.
He was finally ready to say goodbye to the Cursed King's Belt, but in a meeting with the higher-ups at GNN, they told him his highest rated reports were always ones in which he was wearing it. They convinced him to keep it in his wardrobe. It has since
become his wardrobe once again. Not because he needs the extra shot of confidence, but because his fans love it.
Today, Shinon has pretty much put all those feelings of inadequacy behind him. Fame has
slightly totally gone to his head, and he's gotten in the habit of ordering Alynna around, which is not your typical pawn-arisen relationship. He's not so much concerned for her safety anymore, she's told him repeatedly that she's a Big Girl and can take care of herself, which has freed him up to do more news reports.
As for relationships with other pawns, Shinon is inept at romance. Yes, long ago he had "special feelings" for Gabrielle, but he didn't quite understand
what to do about them. He'd asked his master for advice, which was a bad idea, as Gabrielle didn't appreciate having giant fish thrown at her. He's all but given up, but he at least takes comfort in knowing that she's currently with someone that treats her well - Chase.
Chase is his bro.

You have an issue with Chase, you deal with Shinon first. Actually, if you have an issue with any of his "inner circle", you deal with Shinon first.
You don't mess with Shinon's friends. You
DON'T. Anyway, Chase is always Shinon's go-to guy for support in his crazy schemes. Nobody else wanted to joust on oxen, but Chase was all for it.
Briana has become less of a mentor and more of an equal, the shrooms and nostalgia dust knocking her down to his level.

He still sees her as a mentor, however, and trusts her advice, no matter what it is. He knows that somewhere underneath that haze is a brilliant mind, and he can usually decipher her drug-addled suggestions.
Seel is someone Shinon loves to have around, due to his constant joking and pranks.

And the gawking. And the saucy remarks. Yes, there are times when Seel gets a bit handsy but Shinon appreciates the attention. He doesn't get much physical contact outside of the rare mom-hug. He's trying to learn to be more open with his affection, and Seel is a pretty good teacher for that.

Arya... well, Shinon
assumes everyone has a thing for him, (it's unclear if he
actually believes this) but when they
do, he doesn't see it.

He and Arya have much in common, actually. They're both extremely focused in battle, they're not magically gifted, and - as Shinon often points out - they have pretty much the same hair, only hers is "clumpified." Shinon is rather protective of Arya, although I'm not sure why - she could smash her way through BBI solo with that hammer. Perhaps it's because she reminds him of himself. Just clumpified and wearing a frame plate.
Thomas is a bit of a puzzler for Shinon.

While Shinon understands the concept of shyness, he's never seen it in such a concentrated form. Because of this, Shinon views Thomas as a little brother - someone to be shielded and protected from the big scary world that frightens him so.
Shinon hates Zihark. That's it.

They will never get along, ever. Shinon feels that Zihark has coasted through life and will never learn responsibility, despite the fact that he clearly has learned responsibility and is quite successful. He's just pissed about that coat.
As for Castor, Shinon is still rather indifferent about him.

He knows he's somehow related to Chase, which is a plus, but he's also close friends with Zihark, and that's a big minus.

He intends to head out on a trip with Castor soon to try to get to know him better.
Shinon hasn't spent much time with Kelly yet, he's still getting to know him as well. He's getting some Seel vibes, but that may have just been a fluke, or too much cloudwine.
