Looks like it's using the same engine and gameplay of Dragon's Dogma.
Meh, not impressed, hopefully it's to simply serve as extra funding for Dragon's Dogma 2.

So I'm confused. Is it an actual mmo? Is it just remastered DD with co-op? Will it ever go anywhere besides Japan?
Remastered co-op with 4 party members that can be ai pawns wouldn't be so bad. Mmo I'm not interested in at all. Funding for a new DD I'm totally for though.
I think I read in one article that it would be on PC as well as ps which is good news to me anyways. If it's not an mmo! *growls at mmos*
Edit: Nvm I see in the article where it says new. No remastering.
Hi guys, I just got myself a ps3 rather recently and I am thinking about getting DD. Not sure if it's my kind of game though from what I read.
Mainly I enjoy very story driven games like Mass Effect or Dragon Age but I do also play more gameplay driven games like Diablo or the TES games (although, even for those, I need some semblance of a story, for example, I will not play through Diablo 3 50 times, just to get my character to max level).
I am still not quite sure how it work in DD, does it have some sort of engaging story or is it really more of a grind fest? Any insight from the people who actually played DD (and are frequenting the BW forums, so I assume similar game preferences) would be appreaciated.
Cheers!

I've got class in five minutes so have to be brief!!
It's not a grind fest at all. Leveling up is actually super fun and not tedious at all. It's fun deciding what sort of character you will create, too. What your strengths will be, how balanced you will be, etc.
It does have a story, but the story is TOTALLY WHACK
It's actually pretty cool and very meta. But it's very "out there." You won't cry from emotional overload a la BioWare stories, but you might raise your eyebrows and go, "Whoa..."
If you're fond of BioWare romances, don't get too excited... they're better than Skyrim, but just barely. And you have to follow a guide or you'll end up with the creepy innkeepr or blacksmith xD

Renting one another's pawns and sharing pics. It's delightful.
Be sure you get Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen and not just the base game.
The story is naturally retarded -- This is Capcom we are talking about. Capcom make game stories the same way tumble driers make potato sald. It's all over the place, and can't seem to stop jumping inconsistently around between subplots, leaving many threads untied, like a flailing politician. To summarize; Dragon's Dogma is like a pile of anime clichés mixed together into some sort of gelatinous mass, and there's a guy who looks and talks like Emperor Palpatine in it, then there's some awkward romance because that's how western RPGs work in the minds of Capcom.
If we ignore that, you have some of the most engaging games ever in terms of gameplay. Dragon's Dogma's combat is downright fun, unlike games like Dark Souls, I actually find the boss battles with big monsters to be engaging, fun, while also being challenging, like say.. Shadow of the Colossus. The colossal monsters actually feel big -- it also helps that it carries a very intuitive customization system, in terms of designing your character to be.. whatever you want her, him to look like. Although there are a bit too many Final-Fantasy haircuts and not so many sensible looking ones that actually feel like they belong in a Fantasy RPG -- They also finally got rid of that awful opening song with the release of Dark Arisen, whcih is the version you should be getting of course. Also I really like the armor designs, they are very distinct and vary in terms of design. It's not like BioWare or your average MMO, where most of the armors just look like retextured iterations of the same type you've already worn before.
Dragon's Dogma is one of the few titles to come out of Capcom (the only one, really) that I actually care about. If this online thing basically forces me to play with other players while roaming the world, then I'm gonna have to pass. I'm not in the mood for more Destiny bullocks or MMO grinds.
The story is full of plot holes and is just plain stupid but I won't deny that the dragon fight was awesome along with the lead up to it. It's a shame that they present choices to do you at the end which are simply illusionary and only exist for the extra achievements they unlock. I'm not expecting a good story from Dragon's Dogma 2 but I do expect good gameplay, more customization and a bigger world and I think that's what everyone else will be expecting and asking for from another DD game too. It's the gameplay that defined the game.
Hopefully this F2P game is to simply serve as more funding or a side project for DD. I guess it's the multiplayer component that Dragon's Dogma 1 lacked just with F2P stuff thrown in since it's using the same engine and all that. I hope Capcom have been working on DD2 since Dark Arisen because I'd love to sell a fully fledged sequel next year.
Thanks guys. I think I'll give it a try one of these days. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yeah.. uh.. no offense but I was just watching videos of this game because someone else mentioned it, it definitely seemed rather interesting on a number of dimensions. I mean really, illusory choices? Like that's never happened in a Dragon Age game or something.
So coming here and seeing nothing but "it's so stupid and horrible and the highest point of retardation," I'm kind of like, uh.. well then.
The story seems to have a kind of bizzaro medieval aesthetic that looks pretty cool to me, sort of like Demon Souls.

Dragon Age doesn't tell you "Nope, wrong choice, you have to reload now" ten seconds later. That is actually what happens here. These choices only exist for a tiny cutscene and achievement.
Trust us, the story is nothing to write home about for the most part, but it doesn't matter because the game is that much fun. I remember my first playthrough - I wasn't curious to see what would happen next, but rather I was excited to see what kind of monster I'd be fighting or crafting materials I'd be getting.
They also finally got rid of that awful opening song with the release of Dark Arisen
I AM THE DANGAAAAAAAN
I'm not expecting a good story from Dragon's Dogma 2 but I do expect good gameplay
I'm expecting moon hang-gliding. If I don't get that, pre-order cancelled.

Yeah, I don't think I would have sunk 1000+ hours into this game without this thread. ![]()

Edit: the screenshot on the top left of that magazine Elton John is a Phoenix posted looks like Gran Soren's square. I know it isn't (the game supposedly takes place in a new realm called.. Lestaria? Something like that.) But I kinda would like to see Gran Soren all prettified for current gen.
I expect better camera controls, so I can tell up from down and where the bleeding hell I'm climbing, whenever I want to kill a Cyclops or something.
Haters!! I kind of like the story lol Yes it is completely whack, but it's charming in a way. I just hate what happens to my Arisen. It's weird (and I have a few other feelings about the ending, but I'll keep them to myself so as not to spoil.)
But generally I find the ending extremely meta and very cool.
Oh, and Dark Arisen comes with the awesome Japanese voices, which is 90% of the reason I really did fall in love with my two canon love interests, Reynard
and Valmiro (cutie pie).
What can I say, I absolutely love this game. Yes a big reason why is on account of Shinon, Gabs, Briana, Chase, and the gang
but the frigging fantastic CC, the monsters, the various classes, and Reynard
(okay I'll stop now) all contributed.

Sorry I've just reached the point where if the story and characters and such aren't interesting I really can't bring myself to play it... there was a time when I'd play just about anything, a platformer starring a frog, duck hunt, but unless it's at least slightly interesting I feel like I might as well just play solitaire or pong or something.
I feel like it's kind of the soul/core message in some ways.

So what's the point/purpose of Dragon's Dogma MMO? Are we even still in Gransys or is it going to be a whole different country/continent?
Just give us dd2 already ![]()
@Aedan: I think they said a new place? Shepenwet says maybe Lestaria?
Thank you for the video wolfhowwl!

That's assuming that the MMO is not "Dragon's Dogma 2"...

Yeah looking at that trailer it looks like they are sinking time and a bit of a budget into it. Odd considering how MMOs are fading out and the Elder Scrolls Online has been announced to go free to play in June... I also read that there are no plans as of yet for an international release, just in Japan. Although it seems inevitable really, its all a bit strange.
Financially Capcom arn't doing great, so a this almost seems like a compromise title. Multiplayer is popular and a logical outcome for DD, a four player online element would be great fun! Another DD game will appeal to fans anyway and cater to an MMO and multiplayer audience. A wider market to make money essentially. It seems like they don't really want to sink the time into a full DD2 single player experience judging from that trailer to me.
Additionally Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono stated a while back that they won't make a sequel for any game that doesn't sell at least 2 million copies and DD got around 1.3 million. They seem to be playing it safe with an established title while trying to be broad.

I actually don't mind the microtransactions as long as they're limited to good armor & weapon packs and meaningful DLC, otherwise I'll pass. So is anyone going to remake their pawn & arisen for when DDO comes overseas?
If it is indeed an mmo I think I will probably just pass. If my son tries it I might give it a whirl, but unlikely. We'll see.
Also just read this which lends support to the idea that this will likely be a full game.

If we get it, yep. It looks like our Arisens are the ones that'll be partying up, I'm not quite sure if our pawns go with them or what. I s'pose I could read up on it but I honestly can't bring myself to care that much.
I just looked at my FB album. 8503 pictures. My goodness. Here's a handful.

So they'd be getting rid of the pawn system?! My goodness!
Huh, well I think if I could only create Arisens I'd create Dai, Seel, and Arya as Arisens. They are definitely my favorites. Not that I don't love the other characters I've created, but I feel I've injected the most "personality" into those three.
Honestly, so long as the CC still rocks, the fighting rocks, it's free to play, and I can still play with you guys, I'm in ![]()
There are still pawns, I know you can play with an AI party, I just don't know if others hire your pawns or not. In those magazine scans, it says "Arisen First" and "Arisen Second", so I assume if you play with real people you're playing as your arisen.
C'mon, what's an Arisen without Rook a pawn?

Agreed. Wow. Well, I'd probably still make those three my Arisens and then just give them generic pawn people for followers lol

What three?
As I understand it, player characters will be Arisens and AI followers will be pawns. If you can still make your own personal companion then they will be a pawn too. When you party up with other characters though, it's just your Arisens adventuring I think. "Arisen First" "Second" and "Third" and "Fourth" as we've seen in screens are parties consisting of people's main playable characters, I think, at least these screens below would suggest that:
