Things I'd Like To See In Dragon's Dogma 2
Dragon's Dogma 2 (not referring to the MMO that someone showed in the Youtube video).
I'd like to get this disclaimer out of the way. I love Dragon's Dogma!
This is a fantastic game. About 8.5 out of 10. The reason I'm saying this is because people are going to assume that I don't like the game.
Pawns can only be 6 of the 9 classes. Pawns can't be hybrids. No assassin pawn, or mystic knight pawn or magick archer pawn. Those would be awesome. Still 6 classes is decent.
Pawn Dialogue: Could be more varied. I think this is one of the flaws of an otherwise amazing system. Sharing different pawns is a really nice of creating a unique party. However they keep saying the same stuff. To be fair it has to be said that the Duke has to build new roads.
Combat: I'd actually like it to remain the way it is. Just please don't reduce the number of abilities. This game has plenty of abilities. This is rare for me to say this but, the combat is really good. No need to change a thing. No need to add anything. No need to subtract anything. Granted this won't stop me from thinking of stuff that could be added but I'm like that. The mounting, the interesting classes and weapons and special abilities. Well designed game.
Stat Gains: Well. I'm on the fence about this. I was suggesting last page that it would be nice to see stat games for all 9 classes in a codex.
Learn More of The Lore: I'd love to learn more about the different provinces, cultures, nations etc. Heck your pawns seem fascinated by this.
Story: I'd actually like to see more inter nation rivalry, fighting over the throne, intrigue, betrayal and twists. Rather than being the "chosen one", you start off as a nobody whose own actions ascend them to being "the special one". However you are special because of your feats and actions, not because of some encounter with a dragon.
Crafting: It's simple. Combine two items. I don't think you need a complex crafting system. I know that Elder Scrolls fans want provisioning skill, smithing skill, enchanting skill, spell making skill, flask making skill, explosives making skill, fletching skill, cloth work skill, wood work skill, alchemy skill etc. Having lots of crafting skills and lots of crafting stations is fun and immersive. However it isn't necessary.
However it would be nice if I knew which items could be combined before selecting the item. So much time is spent doing this. "Can I combine this? No. Can I combine this? No. Can I combine this? No. Can I combine this? Yes. I can combine this. Can I combine this? No. Can I combine this? No. Can I combine this? No. Can I combine this? Yes. I can combine this." I wish there was some kind of indication as to what items I can craft without selecting the items.
Characters: The game wasn't devoid of characters. In fact there are some really cool ones. Mercedes, the Duke, the Jester and the guy who gives you missions at the castle. I just wish I could have more interactions and watch them develop. I know this is something that BioWare does well.
Your Actions Can Change The Course of Events: This is something that BioWare does fairly well. I'm not looking for huge consequences. It would be nice to see more actions lead to some kind of consequence good or bad. Maybe it's because I'm not far into the game.
Faster Travel: We don't need Skyrim fast travelling. However the ability to mount a horse would be nice. Heck some mounted horse combat thrown into the mix would really hit the sweet spot for me. There is a lot of back tracking in this game so getting from A to B quicker would be nice.
SAVE FILES! I have hundreds of save files in RPG's for a good reason. Crashes and file corruption happen. No matter how much you patch a game, you can't guarantee the game will be free of these issues. If something goes wrong in this game, too bad. Delete your file and start again UGH! WHY!?
Opening: I felt the opening undersold how amazing this game is. Sure I have this long list of niggles and 1 major issue (NO MULTIPLE SAVE FILES!) but this is a truly amazing game. However I'm worried that someone would actually assume that this is a generic fantasy hack and slasher without a character creator or the amazing job system. The opening does not do the rest of the game justice in my opinion. Many readers give up if the first 10 pages of a book are underwhelming. Well the first 10 pages were an okay action hack and slasher.
What changes would you like in the next Dragon's Dogma?
