Watch out for that duchess though. She'll getcha.

Also my character all of a sudden is romantically involved with the Duke's wife.

AELINORE STRIKES AGAIN!

The act of giving her the party hat when you first talk to her nearly maxes her affinity. It's a devil to bring back down, I once tried throwing her against the garden wall several times, she was still smitten. And I got arrested.

The affinity system is something DD did poorly, there was actually a change made to Dark Arisen (or perhaps in a patch, I don't recall) that lowered the affinity gained by talking with Asalam and Caxton, the innkeeper and armorer. Despite there being an item called the Arisen's Bond, a giftable ring that instantly maxes affinity, you could still wind up with anyone you talked with a lot. The game doesn't recognize the ring as anything special (as you should assume it would, because really, it says it right in the item description.)

Don't feel bad, Aelinore got most of us. You can throw her around now until the charm/pink cloud disappears when you talk to her and it'll change who you get in the ending cutscene. Although chances are if you didn't do much gifting or questing, it'll be Asalam. Perhaps Quina. Quina seems to be the "default."

^ So true. I usually do the same. I run over the person in question a few times, which usually works... I have ended up with about everyone now in the end, except with the person whom I actually wanted to romance -___- They should defo change this if they ever decide to make a second game tbh. So annoying. In my latest playthroughs I usually ignore all the duchess' quests.

Yeah, after her introductory cutscene, I usually just walk out.

Good luck with the choking and such!
I'm such a wonderful person.

I don't even bother with the affinity system anymore, finding out who Grigs thinks I'm involved with is usually a ridiculous surprise.

Hahaha, omg sounds so familiar :D And same. I have totally given up on it because I just get homicidal if I try too hard and it doesn't add up...

*clears throat* I've always managed to get who I want :P First Reynard, then Valmiro, then Ser Max (who sucks and has no unique romance dialogue).

Finally got this game. Very much enjoying it....except the stupid stamina system outside combat. Traversing the world is a pain in the ass.

It took you three years to finally cave in. Well better late than never I suppose. I plan on going through one more time as a new character again before Bloodborne comes out. I've changed my main character (Mystic Knight class) completely in his weaponry and armoury but now I'm interested in going through as an assassin from scratch.

I was trying to be nice and she drags my character into a relationship.

I didn't even know there was an affinity system in the game. Literally didn't know until I read that post.

Aelinore does not act like a human being. I have never met any female come on so strongly to me like that.

It normally takes a lot of effort, shared interests, lengthy conversations and something resembling what I like to call a "relationship".

With Aelinore it's "I fancy you, tough luck we're together now, even though I'm married to this other guy".

The trick to getting who you want is pretty simple.

1. Don't do any of Aelinore's quests. Ignore her.

2. Don't give Quina that Forget-Me-Not flower (or whatever it is). Give it to your intended love interest. Also, hit her every now and then until you hear her affinity go down.

3. You can rescue Selene and allow her to live in your home, but afterward, make sure you beat her up a bit until her affinity goes down.

Talk to your love interest a lot; give him or her lots of presents. I think only Julian requires special action that must be taken. Otherwise, just give your intended gifts and once you get the Arisen's Bond, give it to them. If you notice anyone start to blush and chime around you, beat them up a bit lol

You should always get who you want then. The game is really coded to stick you with some unwanted female of inappropriate age (seriously, only Quina seems tolerably mature enough, and she still seems a teenager to me... I swear to god Aelinore is like 12, and don't get me started on Selene lol)

Anyway. I've just switched from Sorcerer to Strider.

The plan was to do 20 levels sorcerer, 20 levels strider and 10 levels assassin before returning to magick archer.

The sorcerer has some pretty awesome looking spells. Shame they take forever to cast.

I'm not kidding you. 90% of the combat is me waiting for a spell to be cast (and that is with the buff that reduces casting times).

So I have to rely on tanks to take the heat off me so that my casting isn't interrupted.

I only bothered getting on highest tier spells Bolide. It's worth it. Most of my damage output was from that one spell. If the casting times weren't so long, I'd probably stick to that one class. Aside for the long waiting times, the Sorcerer is fantastic.

I'm enjoying the Strider a lot more simply because I'm more proactive, rather than waiting for stuff to happen. Also I can target weak points a lot easier (which is helpful against Golems). Makes sense given that Magick Archer is my favourite class. Sadly I was unable to purchasse a decent bow because those guards are hunting me down in the now ravaged Grand Soren. Shame.

Since I'll be using dagger skills for my Strider, Assassin and Magick Archer, what are the best skills to use?

Also for the regular (non magical) short bow, what bow skills are most useful? I don't want to invest too much into these skills as they don't overlap with Magick Archer.

This made me laugh. And then shake my head because it's true. Capcom. Seriously.

Excellent pawn class though. They don't care about cast times.

This is going to sound stupid, but... head back there. If you hand over the 20 wakestones to finish the quest you should have by now, that's it, there's no turning back, so thoroughly explore your new surroundings.

I only use hundred/thousand kisses and advanced trigger for the dagger skills. Instant Reset is also useful if you go a bit overboard with button mashing. Magick Archer's Magic Rebalancer is great but I always forget I have it equipped and burn through periapts instead.

For shortbows, fracture dart is insane. At least on a pawn, I'm not sure how the aiming thing works with it. I'd assume it's like cloudburst volley, which is also great for groups of fliers. (or anything.)

Fivefold Flurry (Tenfold if you're a ranger) is my go-to attack, though. I don't really remember any of the others.

And I feel like I have to mention Lyncean Sight and Comet Shot, which belong to assassin and ranger respectively. While perhaps not the best skills, they do make for some great screenshots due to their zoom. I don't leave home without them.

I wound up doing the Aelinore questline once during a playthrough and hated it.  I don't even think I beat the game with that character... Tbh I hate that entire stupid scene with the party hat.  My Arisen wouldn't wear that thing in public... so not only do I walk out immediately once it's over without even speaking to Aelinore, I skip all the cutscenes involved in "Hear the Duke's Decree."  That's extreme, I know, but I really hated that scene... at no other point do I recall the game railroading the Arisen down such a bizarre path.

Actually, I also dislike having Selene move into the Arisen's house, but since he's never there I guess it's not that bad.  I'd still like a way to avoid that... maybe I'll just skip that quest next time and see what happens.  I don't think I need anything from Witchwood anyway...

I agree that Fivefold Flurry is the best archery skill... if you're going to be swapping for a spellbow anyway, there's no real point in learning any of the other abilities.  I don't think any of them are shared between the two vocations... I do recommend the Strider Augment, Leg-Strength, however... it allows you to run much faster than normal even as you carry more items.  Sadly, you would need to max out the vocation in order to learn it, so it might not be worth the trouble for you...

So Everfall is the last area and then end of game?

Oh. Well. I guess I better head back for that better bow.

If that's it for story then, really is that it?

After Everfall there is no more story. No more time spent explaining what on Earth is going on?

You slay the main antagonist and he gives you your heart back. [I honestly don't get what was going on there].

Then Grand Soren gets decimated because I guess I made a deal with the dragon? I wouldn't call it a deal. It was more of an ultimatum. But I guess I'm the bad guy. I'm the bad guy because The Duke said so.

There was an interesting conflict between nations that promised some much needed Game of Thrones intrigue, which has gone nowhere.

There was a cult of dragon worshippers who were slain by the dragon. That could have gone somewhere.

Are you telling me that all of the above plot points don't go anywhere and instead you fight the same dragon again for "reasons".

I honestly don't get this plot line.

I don't understand why that dragon stole the Arisen's heart, returned it, destroyed Grand Soren and caused a number of other problems.

I don't get the main antagonists motivations at all.

I don't get why the inter-nation intrigue was abandoned.

Can someone help me out here?

[Sigh] I guess I shouldn't be too surprised. I found the Resident Evil series plotline completely impenetrable and that was from Capcom. All I want to know is who is who, why characters do what they do and their purpose in moving the plot forward. I'm completely bereaved of any kind of comprehension here. Am I the only one?

The final boss is a huge info dump. A lot of your questions will be answered (although probably not to your satisfaction.) It gets a bit weird.

You didn't make the deal. If you made the deal (give me this person you talked to once care for and I will give you wealth/power/immortality/whatever) you would have gotten a five second cutscene that forced a reload. That was the deal. Story spoilers to follow:

Yep, Hearthstone/Voldoa is just a plot thread left hanging. Makes you wonder how much was cut. (Devs have said DD was meant to have more to it... including hang-gliding and quests involving going to the moon.)

There was a cult of dragon worshippers who were slain by the dragon. That could have gone somewhere.

"[This] could have gone somewhere" is a nice tagline to the story of Dragon's Dogma if you ask me.

Are you telling me that all of the above plot points don't go anywhere and instead you fight the same dragon again for "reasons".

Unless you mean NG+, you don't fight Grigori again. Grigori is dead.

I don't understand why that dragon stole the Arisen's heart, returned it, destroyed Grand Soren and caused a number of other problems.

This is answered in the final room. Again, probably not to your satisfaction. Some things just "are". Capcom really tried, though. It's clear they really cared about this world and its weird cast of characters, a lot of it is unique... but still...

...hey, the combat's good.

Okay that would have bugged me. The Hearthstone Voldoa plotline involved going to the moon. Huh. Yeah. Unless this is a vaguely futuristic setting, we don't need to go to the moon. Unless they have some sort of teleportation magic. Yeah that could work since there is teleportation stones in the game.

Capcom really did try. I'd like to know more about this world. Hopefully it will have a sequel. Maybe we can pick up some of those dropped plot lines. Maybe the sequel can be about The Hearthstone Voldoa plot line. The dragons can just be a menace lingering in the background causing havoc, which you'll need to handle. In the mean time you're getting involved in the political struggles between nations, taking on a dragon worshipping cult and trying to prevent a huge war.

Kudos to Capcom for actually making me care about this world. I'd just like to get to know the world better, have a developed storyline with plot points I can understand. As a writer I know myself that this is neigh impossible feat to achieve, but hey, they managed to pull off an interesting world. I reckon that they can pull this off. I'm still a bit iffy about going to the moon in a medieval setting. Perhaps that's just me. It's not like the original Ultima game cared about being consistent with technology.

Honestly, I think that Dark Arisen contributed a whole lot more than just an exciting dungeon... maybe there isn't any "Game of Thrones" style political intrigue (I'm actually getting a bit tired of everything being compared to that...), but it does a lot to flesh out the world and explain the Arisen, the dragons, the Rift, and the Endless Chain.

I will say that I wish there were more than two towns in the game, but this was the first entry in the series...  If this had been one of the recent RPG franchises whose developers decided to cut down on towns and NPC interaction with each new entry, I would not be this lenient in my assessment.  However, when compared to other big name fantasy titles, I think Dragon's Dogma is the best of this past generation.

Okay. How about "House of Cards" style political intrigue?

Haven't seen the show but hey, that show is praised for it's political intrigue.

I'll give Dark Arisen a shot. Perhaps on a New Game plus though.

lol.. I think it helps if your remember that this game is a JRPG.  You won't typically find any kind of Machiavellian plotline in this type of game.  I considered the exchange between Mercedes and Julien to be background information on the nature of the world, and even that brief scene explained why there was no foreign intervention in the conflict... did you speak with Julien at all when wandering around the castle?  Or any of the NPCs?  I found that they had a few good bits of info to offer from time to time, although most were mainly interested in doing as HIs Grace commanded... xD

Hey, so what level were you when you defeated the Dragon?  It sounds like you got there quickly... Did you even manage to switch to Magick Archer in time? o.O

No. I still haven't completed the game. I'm at Everfall as the Strider.

I'm cool because there's game plus. So I can continue my character's development towards the magick archer.

Yeah, that's a good point... hey, be sure to check out the majority of floors in the Everfall before you decide you're done with this run.  Some of them are pretty cool.  Just remember to save often.  :)

This (http://www.3djuegos....s-dogma-online/) site has a bunch of DD:Online art and screenshots. Methinks the blonde guy and the brown-haired "peddler" looking guy are important NPCs like Mercedes and Reynard.

He looks like he's wearing a male version of Madeleine's clothes. And he's an arisen. Note the scar.

So I'm the Senechal.

Umm. That's it I guess.

I enter Casardis as a ghost and I enter Grand Soren as a ghost.

Well... Not much to do here. Not sure if there is anything more to do.

I've walked around both towns and nothing happens. I just return to the void, sit back on the chair only for more nothing.

Most useless diety powers ever. No wonder the other Arisen wanted to die.

Well I got some answers. The dragon's purpose is to bring about volition in people's lives. Besides life is meaningless without death.

So I guess we need a dragon to create chaos. Not sure we need one of those but I guess that's why the game is called "Dragon's Dogma".

Umm. I don't get it. Why am I wondering around Casardis and Grand Soren as a ghost?

Why can't I do anything?

Am I supposed to do something?

Or is this how the game ends? Nothing more to do other than wonder around two towns aimlessly.
