So, does anyone know what gifts Selene favors? I think she is romanceable (since she chimes at my character), but does she accept gifts? Everytime I try to give her something, she just makes herbal potions for me.

I think Selene was Toadstool Sitters, not sure. I wanted to say Windmill Flower, but I think that's someone else.

Everybody is romanceable, I'm guessing. I loaded up Ser Daerio with tons of crap because one of my pawns said he had a key to a door... and now he chimes. (I've also 'chimed' Ser Larch, Valmiro and Reynard.) But Daerio still hasn't given me a key. Perhaps he's onto me, he knows I'm just using him for his keyring.

Brilliant. I'll screencap my Arisen whacking Reynard with a massive hammer.

Wait, so Barnaby can be romanced? Image IPB

Could've fooled me... about 8 harspud juices later, no chime. Valmiro caved after 3 beast-steaks.

Funny moment: the armorer in Gran Soren is hateful. He calls me horrible names whenever I enhance my equipment. In the time it takes for me to click on "enhance", his sales pitch is shortened to "they're masterworks all, you can't"... considering what his accent does to the word "can't", it sounds like he's not very impressed with me. You just lost yourself a customer, Caxton. ;)

I definitely want to see those when you take them. :D

Aren't Harspid Juices for travellers? I think Cassardi males like beast steaks, so that's probably the difference; Barnaby isn't really a traveller, sooo... That and some characters just take longer. Madeleine didn't have maximum affinity for me until I started my second playthrough, but Aelinore was inviting me up to her bedchambers after just talking to her a few times.

@ HoldTheLine

Woo! Thanks! Now I just have to hope he isn't turned off by a male Arisen.
Don't know why the guys of Gran Soren would like fish so much. I'd expect that more from the guys of Cassardis, it being a fishing village and all...

Still disappointed that you can't romance your main pawn...-no npc can beat my Bjorn-. Now, I regret making him look like an eleven archer... :(

How is the game? I've been interested in purchasing it, but this whole ME3 fiasco has made me...leery about about buying games within the first month of release. =p

I was that way about it too, but then the demo convinced to get it. It was money well spent, imo. Though, the story is -so far- forgettable. But, it's main strengths are the combat system and the pawns.
If the demo is still out, it doesn't hurt to give it a try.

Can anybody tell me if quests expire or not? I've always been the type to accept every single quest that I can find (the gold and experience points never hurt, plus I'd probably be in the area it specifies anyways), but I read somebody say somewhere that some quest or another expired in their log.

Is this true? Is this a thing? I reeeeally hope it's not, that'd be really disappointing. If so, does it not expire if you just leave it on whatever board you found it on until you're ready?

Some quests will dissappear from your journal and the board if you move forward along the main plot too far. Its not actual time dependant. Only one quest I got had a time limit on it (4 days) and the game gave me a message every time a day passed.

But there's no harm in grabbing every quest you can. If theres a journal limit, I've never hit it. Only exception is Escort quests. Can only take one of those at a time.

That's the girl from the intro. That one is very time sensitive. You get it right after you kill the hydra and must complete it before escorting the head to gran. Don't know if she disappears forever if you don't do it. But probably will keep you from seeing more of her storyline.

Good to know, thanks! :)

By the way, did anybody else preorder from GameStop? (Or EBGames, depending where you are.) My preorder came with some activation code but I'm damned if I can figure out where the heck to use it. Internet is giving me no information on this.
Maybe it's a total noob question.

Well if its the PS3 version, you go to the playstation store on your console and hit the enter code button up top. Then just type in the code.
Not sure on X-Box but probably something similar.

You know what would be incredibly fantastic? If all you xboxers out there hired my pawn and then instantly sent him back with some kept sour ambrosial meat. Or if someone could tell me what drops it? I must have seen some, as I have one that's gone rotten in storage, but I don't know where it came from. Seems to me it was from the Ancient Quarry, but now that's empty.

Oh, and Golems? I've never seen one and I have to kill three. Where are they? I hate to move on in the story without doing these silly little quests first...

Yeah, I had four, but they all went rotten. It would appear that they are found in the Ancient Quarry, as you stated, and that is the only guaranteed location that I know of. Other than that I believe the oxen drop them like super rarely, the boomers... err exploding zombies, and Griffons are the last two that I know of that drop it occasionally. Just rest for, I think... five days? That should reset all the stuff in the Ancient Quarry, or do what I do and just let it happen haha. So far I have yet to have any of those board missions expire, only side missions you get from NPCs, and escort missions have gotten cancelled, or disappeared in my experience.

As for the Golems, I have only fought two, one in the Witchwood outside of Selene's place when I was doing the quest "Witch Hunt", and on the way to the Bluemoon's Tower, I believe that's what it was called. It's approximately halfway there, you wouldn't miss him. The path to the Bluemoon's Tower is up near the Healing Spring and Blighted Manse, you just head down into the valley area that blows you around with powerful wind currents and then keep heading southeast.

I wish you luck on your adventure to slay golems and obtain sour meat haha; I still need one golem and five meats myself :) Oh, and if I wasn't on the PS3 I would have gladly hired your pawn and one starred... I mean given you awesome items and added to favorites :D

Griffons drop Ambrosial meat, and if you keep it it'll go sour.

I've only run across three griffons thus far, though. They seem to get more common later on, but they're never as common as Chimeras/Cyclopses.

^ I haven't seen a single griffon yet. /tear tbh

I did fight a golem-esque creature at the Tomb of the Unknown Traveler. It's easy to miss, though. You'll see something that looks like a statue, and when you walk up to it, it comes to life, all glowy-blue like. The whole fight reminded me very much of Shadow of the Colossus. Probably my favorite fight in DD thus far.

Sour ambrosial meat can be found in the quarry. Take that to the Black Cat in Gran Soren and make forgeries (I wonder how he can forge meat). I'm not sure how much it'd cost but Ambrosial meat costs 5.6k(?) to forge so I'm guessing the sour version is just a bit more expensive. The reward from the quest (Undulant Gold) is worth about 45k.

Griffons are easy to find. One is almost always picking off cows just outside of the main city. Getting them to stick around long enough to fight them is another matter entirely. I've only managed to actually kill one once. The other times it flies off halfway, even if I light their wings on fire.

This seems like the kind of question that's best never answered.

@Cutlass Jack:

There's a quest at some point to fight a griffon - if it's the one hanging around outside the capital, then you can't actually kill it yet. But later on, once you finish that quest, griffons will tend to hang out until either you or they are dead.

I'm finally getting back to the main quest because I want to fight the Ur-Dragon. But this game is really, really expansive. I'm having a blast just running around.

I'm not even doing real quests right now. I have made it my mission to uncover every area of the map that I can. It's a fool's errand, and I usually end up with a Very Heavy load for all pawns and my pc, but it's been fun. Back to questing tonight, I think.

I did this, though I tend to just off-load my heaviest stuff onto the warrior pawn I recruited.

I did get all the way to a quest, only to discover that I didn't bring any oil for my lantern and it was out. So I Ferrystoned back home, bought 10 flasks of oil and set out again - alas, I had to go to work at that point.

Tonight, though, THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES!

The rift stone method is very helpful when exploring. There are more rift stones around than there are inns/safe camps so load everything onto a pawn, go to a rift stone and dismiss the said pawn, then re-summon him again. The items go directly to your storage.

Thanks for the info, all! Much appreciated. Looks like I'm off to the Witchwood, Bluemoon Tower and Tomb of the Unknown Traveler. Although, I've been through the Witchwood twice, and have seen no golems. it must be a day/night thing. I don't think I've been in the witchwood at night.

And I still have some crows left to kill, so...I'll be off to the Abbey, too.

...and I need about 7 more seeker's tokens. Hopefully that won't take as long as my Hunt for the 50th War Bugle. I'd swear the chests in the Gran Soren towers knew I wanted bugles so they kept spitting out royal/enlistment corps banners.

edit: went down and found Golem #1 curled up by the tomb, amazing fight. I would have taken screenshots but completely forgot about it until after the thing had disintegrated.

On the way back, I decided to go the long scenic route rather than the quarry shortcut. And then this happened.

It took me making it all the way out into the middle of nowhere with zero ferrystones and every one of my pawns being average or higher to figure this out. And even then, it was completely by accident - I was thinking 'hey, if I get another pawn, they won't be overloaded!' Minutes later, it clicked that 'oh hey, everything they carry goes back to storage.'
