New OTP <3

219_zpshqv2ef6c.jpg

Also, discovered a fun and simple way to get through that mind-numbingly slow ox cart quest.

Well I just did a speedrun for nothing. It said I got the rewards, but they aren't in my storage. I checked and double checked everything.

I have two forest tunic sets... which should be accurate, but they're both one-starred. (I'm sure I've only ever had one - the one I'd gotten on my first speedrun ages ago.) I've only done two speedruns, the one tonight and the one last year, so I couldn't have two one-starred sets. It doesn't make sense.

I have two goldforged caretaker's garbs in my inventory - one I got last year and one that Carcharoth sent me. No new one for my latest speedrun. Something's definitely screwy here. The only thing that was different was that when I loaded my game after the completed speedrun, it launched in offline mode. But that shouldn't matter, I forgot to switch it back, as I'm sure many people would coming from speedrun mode.

Urgh, that was 1:06:49 down the drain. Plus loading screens!

Oh no :( That sucks. I'm sorry, Shep :( What does the speed run do, anyway? Just jump you from one battle to the next?

Nope, you've gotta play through the main quest. It helps if you have a portcrystal network already set up and ignore absolutely everything going on around you.

Although I still can't get that damn ox to Gran Soren in under fifteen minutes. I had planned on bringing a stack of balmy perfumes (I assume they work on the ox as they worked on Barnaby) so I could kick him all the way. I did not.

Arya: Shinon, wake up! For crying out loud, who falls asleep standing up?! *shakes him* You're not going to get hired if you're asleep!
Shinon: *opens his eyes* What? When? Huh?
Arya: Are you really that tired? Why don't you head back to the guild and take a nap?
Shinon: I don't get seen by passers-by in the guild. I am the high point of many market-goers' days.
Arya: Uh-huh. You know there IS no market now, right? Big hole? Everfall?
Shinon: ...how long have I been asleep?
Dai: ...several months? I forget how long ago it was that I killed Grigori and all this happened.
Shinon: You killed Grigs?! But he JUST started up his magazine, dude!
Arya: Grig Beat folded months ago. Vendors couldn't give them away. Most people are creeped out by pawns, not attracted to them.
Shinon: Most people can kiss my ass.
Arya: They could, but like I said, they don't want to.
Shinon: Oh, har har. I'm going home. Maybe Grig's still alive in my world. I'll try to convince him to add more "normal people" in there. Like... uh... Madeleine, I guess? And... Ser Berne? Do people like him?
Arya: Why not Dai? ...this is a tasteful magazine, right? No... naughty pictures?
Shinon: It had an interview with Aelinore in its premiere issue, so not appropriate for children, no.
Arya: Then I don't want Dai in it. Or reading it. Someone has to look out for his mental health.
Dai: Hey! I'm not a little kid! I know things! LOTS of things!
Shinon: I told you to forget everything Mom told you. She was drunk and thought you were someone else. Also I don't think you can do that with a Dominion Claw without severely injuring someone.
Arya: ...What?

Start Speedrun, fight Grigori, pick a class, sprint to the Encampment, kill the cyclops, kill the hydra, sprint to the waycastle, escort the ox to Gran Soren, take the shortcut to the bottom of the Everfall, ferrystone out, do two wyrmhunt quests, meet Edmun, kill the griffin, sleep through the trial, hand over a ring, deal with the rebelion, kill the cockatrice, ferrystone to the Greatwall and kill some liches, kill Grigori, hand over twenty wakestones, defeat the Seneschal and use the Godsbane. You can make it easier by setting up port Crystals in convenient locations, making forgeries of certain items you'll need, bringing a lot of Spring water or playing as a mage to heal the ox and using a Makers Finger to kill Grigori. You'll get two outfits and some braging rights.

So it's... basically a regular game, just skipping lots of stuff? That's kind of hilarious. I mean it has its own special start screen and everything! I thought it would be more than that!

Also realized "hard mode" has its own start screen; I was going to switch to hard mode and realized I couldn't for my new playthrough :(

I will be forever jealous that I can't take pictures like you guys cuz I'm bad at it.

Someday I need to start playing again so I can beat bbi and finish reading the story thing ....it was so great!

Looking back through some of the recent pages I've decided that I would like a RL Carcharoth.  He is so purdy.

Oh my goodness.

In Dark Arisen it takes forever to kill enemies.

They have Billions of Hit Points. :o

How much grinding must I do to take these beasts down?

On the plus side I can move the camera around when taking photos.

Haha xD I know that feel bro!

Well here's how it works for me.

My pair who are level 80-ish: They can make their way reasonably well through BBI until they get to the last part. By that I mean, the last time you see Barroch and enter the series of rooms that will eventually take you to Daiman (sp??). Beyond that and they get their arses handed to them, even with infinity pawns in the party.

My two pair who are infinity level? They can for the most part cruise through BBI with some exceptions depending on class and build.

My pair who are just starting out at level 20: They would not approach BBI with a 10 foot pole

You might want to extend that ban to Barnaby as well. He's getting a bit creepy.

Everything in BBI has a weakness. If you're a magick archer, you can exploit almost all of them.

The prisoner gorecyclops in Midnight Helix can be taken down quite handily with sixfold/ninefold bolt, or perhaps just some ice-enchanted basic attacks. Just stand on a ledge where it can't reach you. It'll kill your pawns, though, and you might be risking death if you run back down to revive them. Hopefully they follow you up.

Poisoned Undead have a ridiculously bloated health bar for a basic enemy. They don't like fire, though, and comestion will tear through them. If you have explosive rivet and are fighting these guys on a bridge, make sure your pawns aren't climbing them when they explode. Pawns shouldn't be climbing these guys at all when they're on bridges, but they do anyway. If you're a low level, the poison clouds these guys emit can kill you pretty quickly, so always stay at range if possible.

Maneaters are in fixed locations. One being the chest on the wooden platform above the water in the Ward of Regret. Don't open these chests once you've discovered there could be a maneater in one, let pawns do it. If your pawns aren't guardians or any of the other protective inclinations, they tend to hang back and charge up the most damaging skill they have while you're being eaten. They'll still free you, but you'll take unnecessary damage. Fighters and Striders are usually quick to respond, but even they sometimes just don't care.

Garm are very weak to lightning. If you can draw one into a hallway and fire off a ricochet hunter, you'll cut off a huge chunk of its bar. If you're adept at climbing, jump on the top of its head and hack away with a thunder-affinity weapon. It's also worth noting that (in my experience) Garm won't attack or approach you if you don't go close to them. If you hang back and let your pawns do all the work, the garm will totally ignore you. They seem to focus on the pawn doing the most damage. Just don't walk near its head, you'll get snapped at.

Death can be easily offed in the Fortress of Remembrance by using a flurry skill and blast arrows on him as he's floating above the abyss. You miss out on the drops, and he respawns eventually, so only kill him this way if you reaaallly want that experience. He drops unique materials needed to enhance some of the better weapons and armor, so again, cheaply kill him at your own risk.

If you find your attacks aren't moving any health bars, try buying a few conquerer's periapts (for physical attack boosts) or demon's periapts (for magic) from Fournival. If you're a magick archer, you have infinite demon's periapts in the form of magick rebalancer (not rebuffer).

Once you start opening up the lower floors and getting better weapons and armor, it gets easier. My Level 21 group is currently stuck in Midnight Helix, unable to make the charge up to the void key without being turned into paste. (One ingle! ONE!) I keep getting that pop-up that says "BBI is recommended for seasoned adventurers" or whatever. I don't listen.

Rinse and repeat, sometimes shouting at the TV because Shinon is the only pawn who refuses to follow you back down the hallway and requires frequent transference of kingwarishes. (Tonight he muttered, "Not bad... that actually hurt.")

Well at least he's doing stuff. Lately the only things he's been attacking for me are crates. Last night he got stuck behind a treasure chest in the Ward of Regret and just stood there waiting for me to come back and physically lift him out of there. I walked as far as I could go, hoping he'd teleport out, but then I hit the maneater chest and I didn't dare open that without him there. (The rest of my party was hovering around level 20)

I dunno who Seregil belongs to; I think a random person friend requested me on XBL and I accepted. Seregil is a character from one of my favorite fantasy trilogies growing up, so that makes me happy.

I did a search on the Pawn Community, there's no Xbox pawn by that name on there, so it really is a random! Someone hired Kelly and clearly thought he was all that and a bag of harspuds.

Also, WHY DOES THIS NEVER GET OLD.
226_zpszbkuzo2q.jpg
Of course it's Alynna. Of course.

That's my girl! She and Barnaby have an Agreement. She's allowed to flirt with everything on two legs, he has to practice on his staff.
Spoiler

She doesn't like it when the shoe is on the other foot, though. This incident with a young pawn resulted in a ban on shields.

In other news, we took Alin on a lovely trip through the Quarry. He made a friend.
Spoiler

I actually went alllll the way around the map, the Waycastle was closed off (I haven't done the hydra quest yet) so I went through the back entrance of the quarry, up to Gran Soren. (The guards said something like "We can't just let ANYONE in without proper documentation," and then turned me away.) It was about that time I realized that my eternal ferrystone wasn't functional yet. Wasn't that long of a walk back, I cut through the Cobal Coast (that river on the edge of the cliff with the cyclops laying in it). But yeah, at least I got a nice chunk of the map filled in, if nothing else.

Ha, Alin and Cobweb (Arisen) did the Quarry quest when last I played them; I THOUGHT Alin seemed to know what he was doing around that ogre :P

And wow, thanks for answering the question I had been pondering of late: what happens when you skip the hydra quest    As for ferrystones, I had thought you couldn't use them until after Barnaby's quest (into the Everfall), but I used one before and ended up in the marketplace of Gransys, which was kind of funny, because we just walked up to the guards from behind and they were like, Oh, you're looking for the pawn guild? Yeah it's just that way. And we're all, no sh!t Sherlock, we just walked right past it.

Btw if Alin gets rented and you can't think what to send him, ferrystones are always helpful; actually, that goes for Kelly and Arya, too, because I never bought the base game so still have to buy all my ferrystones :|

@Curious - Sent Alin home with some new gear. Just so he doesn't get overloaded (since I know a few of us - myself included ;) - like to dress-up new pawns), you may want to log in with your new gamertag, and "sleep".

Wasn't able to play very long, but here are a couple of shots I got...too tired for commentary. Sorry.

What platform do you use? If Xbox, then you link your account (through the in-game Options), to a Facebook account. "Shared" pictures will be automatically uploaded to an album on FB.

If on PS3, you can take screenies, again through the in-game Options menu, and they will be uploaded to your PS3 HD. From there, you can use a thumbdrive to transfer them to your PC.

Also, WELCOME!! :)

Gamertags:

For Xbox - Flattestflea726 Pawn name: Chase lvl. 200 Strider/Ranger

For PSN - coldwetn0se Pawn name: Chase (female, unlike my xbox male of the same name. ;) ) lvl.150ish Ranger...I think. Been a while.

Broganisity Greatly Approves

This pleases me Cold, so I will share my favorite story while I do the pictures stuff (PS3. I always reset after I beat the game so... yeah.).

This is the story of many things:

- The Story of the Easiest boss fight I have ever encountered
- The Story of the most satisfying boss victory I have ever encountered
- A story of irony
- ...This is the story of how I two-shotted Gregori the first time I went through the game.

Now, My Arisen was a Warrior, my main pawn a ranger, and the two assist pawns mages. . . None of us seemed to possess the ability to knock him out of the sky in the final arena. . .he had no intent on coming down. . .and I didn't see the ballistae on the ridge. . .

So we were getting slaughtered. Eventually, I was the last one standing, and low on health. Gregori comes swooping in for another low-to-the-ground breath sweep. Figuring that, if I'm going to die anyways, it might as well be a glorious death: so I prepare Arc of Deliverance: Last Stand pose and all that.

Gregori comes swooping down, I swing my weapon...Hit him RIGHT in the heart and he goes crashing down into the ground: he has just a faint sliver of health left. He's struggling to get up and I walk over, charge the attack again...and save the irony of it all.

The irony being that I was using the Aptly-named Chestcaver. Second swing. Cue Cutscene. I am cheering and applauding myself, Capcom, the pawns, Gregori, John Madden...really, the whole world felt right in that singular moment.
