Huh. That is the first positive thing I have heard about the game's story. I may have to check this out when I get the chance.

The main quest is pretty bleh, yes, but the ending is (in my opinion) far from it.
I would recommend waiting for a price drop however. A significant chunk of the games length can attributed to running back on forth due to a lack of a fast travel system until you are half-way through the game, and even then you are limited to traveling to one destination at a time.

I'm still waiting for that price drop or the inevitable Super Demon Sexy God Ultimate Edition of Dragon's Dogma approved by The Catholic Church and The Al-Askari Mosque.

It's certainly an ending you won't forget, that's for sure... there are even "bad ends" you can get, depending on your choices at or near the end.
Although having opposite gendered arisen and pawn made for a rather... odd moment.

edit: the romance system isn't as messed up as you think - it's still pointless, but it goes by whoever you max affinity with first, which will occasionally happen during quests if you're not careful. Also, whacking people for good measure never hurts.
And I'm guessing since I had an "unimportant" npc as my love interest, he got overridden in the ending cutscene. Didn't really care, because of craziness.

Or better yet, that movie where a woman wakes up as Rob Schneider.

Damn, I hope all third person games from now on take this as a standard. There is an amazing amount of character control here. Simple "combat rolls' will not cut it anymore.

Can someone explain why those who play send your pawns stupid things like skulls and rocks and grade your pawn poorly. I never grade anyone pawn bad because it just a game.
a lot of people are jerks. BUT, they could also have just dumped their inventory in storage, and have nothing decent to give. Also, if they send a dlc item, it changes into a rock if you don't have the dlc, I've heard. If you were playing when this thread was active, we were all decent gift-givers. I haven't played in a while, but I intend to.
as for rating a pawn poorly, I only did that once, when the pawn i hired did nothing but jump around. He didn't attack or use skills, he drew his weapon and ran back and forth.

Tried to help someone who was being mugged only to be sent to prison as a result...
Just completed the battle of Shadow Fort (assisted by Cyclops 3's AI going nuts so he spent most of the fight attacking a wall while I used my bow to shoot him in the back)..unfortunately lost both support pawns in the fight against cyclops 1 & 2 so will probably need to use one of those stones to get back to the capital...

Level 15 at the moment and I can't find any good armor or weapons anywhere? still using armor I got from the encampment, any tips where I can get better equipment?

Have you tried the armourers in the capital?..(they sell some and can enhance what you have)
I'm mostly using stuff I loot on quests so keep your eyes open for chests, etc
sorry I can't remember specific locations
(also check your pawns carried possessions in case any of them pick up armour you can use)
(Though heavy armour is warriors only-so my prime pawn [about level 30] is now heavily armoured)

I found an Ornstein about halfway through my playthrough, and I spent the rest of the game looking for a Smough. Nobody made a Smough. I wish you could search for pawns by name.
As for armor and weapons, I just used what I found, there are a few good "dungeons" to hunt through, though, The Watergod's Altar had a whole pile of loot, if I remember correctly. It's near the mountain waycastle, there's a little path that slopes down before you actually get to the waycastle.
And if you can make it to the bandit castle southeast of cassardis, (beware the massive mob outside, they can overwhelm you) there's chests that spit out random thief gear, and since chests reset every few days, you can keep going back and getting more stuff.
have you cleaned out dripstone cave? (the well?) i don't remember if there was any gear there though...

Why not?
At the end of my game (female arisen as well) I had six people maxed in total - three women and three men. the three women became maxed through no effort on my part - I actually had to bonk them on the head several times to stop them from fawning over me. One of the men - Reynard - became maxed because I dealt with him a lot and did his quest arc, same with Valmiro. Barnaby I pretty much had to give about 8 armloads of Large Fish before he'd even crack a smile. Yeah, you have to put in a little effort with the male population of Gransys. But give a woman a party hat and it's PINK CLOUDS OF LOOOOVE. Rather unbalanced if you ask me.

I guess nobody makes Smough because nobody likes Smough, I mean who has the better looks and weapons; Ornstein with his giant golden lightning spear and gleaming spiky armor with a Lion's face or ****** Smough who just likes to slam his fat ass on you all the time?
I've cleared Dripstone but didn't get anything, and this bandit castle, is this where you get the Grimoire for the guy in Gran Soren? Because I got a thief helmet then got slaughtered for trying to get the grimoire.

- Wolves. I've killed about 200 of these creatures already. They just get on my nerves now. There's so many of them!
- NPC's respawn. I killed the bandits and their leader within the south bandit fort and they respawned a few days later. (These aren't the bandits of the wilds. These bandits have names and are friendly if you don't attack them)
- NPC's pop up in front of you due to slow spawning time.
- Dragon's Dogma - Worst Lip Sync Award of 2012! Is it just me? Or does DD have the worst Lip Sync to have befallen a game in the past decade? Even Two Worlds 1 had good Lip Sync! How did Capcom let this one past?
- One save. For a game that encourages customization, only allowing one save is a bad idea.
- Enemies respawn too fast.
- Too many repetitive quests. Kill X amount of enemies and escort quests? No thanks. I've even seen quests telling me to kill 50 bunny rabbits! No way ser!
- Pawns don't shut up. "They're open to attack. Now strike!" and "Wolves hunt in packs!" or "Do not strike blindly!" Ha! It's like the developers think blind men/women will be playing the game. It's basic knowledge that wolves hunt in packs and only needed to be said once if at all.
- The boss battles. I took down a stone golem at LV 16. Suffice to say, it took me several tries but when I finally defeated it, I felt a sense of achievement.
- The AI of pawns and enemies is pretty good. I especially like how each pawn has their own tactics. I saw the difference during the golem battle. When the golem froze and was charging up, I ordered my pawns to retreat. My support pawns did but I've got my main pawn on the golem going crazy at the creature. Later, I noticed that one of my fighter pawns grabs enemies a lot and doesn't much climb upon the big foes.
- There are some tough battles with some great challanges.
- Combat is fluid and fun. The combat has nothing on Dark Souls combat (which just feels better) but you feel fully in control of what you are doing.
- Despite the map and what was claimed by that previewer, it takes more than 15 minutes to cross the map. I got lost wandering the wilderness north-west of Witchwood and I nearly got lost in Witchwood too. It took me two days to get back to civilization from the wilderness I was in.
- Night-time is awesome.
- Customization contains massive depth and there's just so many different armor combinations.
- The caves are atmospheric and I have fun exploring them.
Well for £30, I'm happy. I'll sell the game if they announce some sort of Ultimate Edition next year and then pick that up when it's cheaper.

I'm also quite sure if you fail an escort quest and your charge dies, they'll respawn in three days, no worse for wear. Just like in real life.

I'll take bad sync over hearing "forsooth" shoehorned into every sentence, thank you.

Yeah, that's unfortunate... if there were more than one slot, I'd be making that Smough pawn right now.

I told my pawn to keep quiet during a knowledge chair session once, I believe it worked. Can't remember how well because i changed it back pretty quickly, (I'd kinda gotten used to the non-stop chatter) but I did notice a difference, so there's that. The question is posed rather oddly, if I recall, or maybe I misread/misheard. Your pawn asks something like "would you like me to speak up or remain quiet" and the only replies you get are yes and no, "no" being the "shut your piehole" response. I might try this tomorrow, actually. I'll see if there's a big enough difference.
Started up my abandoned NG+... just got to Gran Soren. All three of my pawns were walking so close to the ox pulling the cart that they were practically inside it. It looked like they were trying to make the ox walk faster. I wish it had've worked. I honestly don't remember the cart being that slow.
