Yep. I think I'm finally done with this game. I just keep thinking of what would have been if the game had multiple saves, real choices to be made, a hard difficulty and more companion tactics.
Seriously the story was really horrible. Meh at all around but that ending just destroys every good aspect of the story.
On another note:
Capcom should have hired From Software for monster and world design. Now could you imagine if From Software made a game where you could grab and climb up monsters, had companions and a wonderful character creator? It would seriously be one of the best RPG's ever.

You know...now that I think of it...the game's final ending was HORRIBLE.
I was okay with it. I've seen worse. Ever play RAGE?
After trudging through several "fake endings" just to get the achievements you're then faced with the real ending which really isn't any better and is kinda of weird if you have a female character and male pawn or vice versa.
Having my dainty lady mage sit up and shout "MAHSTAH!" in a deep burly voice was a nice ending to the cavalcade of weird that was DD.
She/he is now retired and living off the millions of gold s/he made doing fetch quests, so.....
Get your own damn pieces of Gran Soren Rubble, you lazies. IT'S ALL AROUND YOU. JUST PICK IT UP.

Despite the multitude of flaws DD shows that it has the potential for it to be a good series. For this to happen Capcom has to replace the save system with a more flexible one, along with the gifting system. Capcom also has to hire good writers who are capable of creating complex characters, branching dialogue, lore, and overarching plot line.
Exactly. I have a crazy theory that Capcom deliberately kept such features and polishing from Dragon's Dogma combined with having great and polished features kept in just to get people to wish for more Dragon's Dogma. How could anyone miss such major flaws? The story is full of plot holes and contradictions too. Random loot drops suck. Chest loot sucks. After killing a boss creature in its lair you expect to find some awesome loot but no. You find a flask of water and a carrot in the chests. Killed the Ur-dragon offline and what do I get? A seeker's token and some wakestones which are common in the Everfall so it was nothing special. I conclude that Capcom delibertately kept these flaws in to get people wishing for the next game which they already have planned or that Capcom is composed of special people who are "intelligent idiots" which explains why there are unique features in DD which everyone wanted but also simple missing features that are technically essential for every RPG.
Weirdest RPG I have ever played this generation = Dragon's Dogma
DD has left me with mixed feelings. I want Capcom to improve upon DD and hopefully create a truly great game in the DD universe and at the same I want to kill them for almost getting there with DD1 but not quite because they missed out simple features.
*Chokes Capcom as a single entity and begins stamping on Capcom's balls and then knees Capcom in the head before healing them - partly - and sending them RUDELY on their way. Later, writes a rather polite but ANGRY letter to Capcom threatening them in an honorable manner which leaves them quaking in their kilts.*
I think my rage is satisfied.

Memorable moment - returning to Gran Soren
pawns talk about goblin ambush from before but not happening.
advance down the road -still no attack ... what's that noise?
keep going ... look left, look right still nothing...that noise getting louder
reached bridge..still no sign of anything...could that noise be wingbeats? looked up
****!
ran into city full pelt

it was weird though the fact there was only limited story (and I suspect the follow-ups will probably not be that directly linked) means it does not really disappoint
(Bioware games have stronger stories so their endings are more important)

The pawns are annoying and soulless, running being limited by a bar is stupid (and where the hell is the fast travel? or at least a horse?), the story truly shines...because of its inexistence. Also, the fact that enemies respawn so quickly and attack 'en masse' is not a challenge, it's just bad design. I hated babysitting the pawns.
The ending was crap. A total waste of 40+ hours.
But, hey. I respect those who liked it.

No one here can fault you for feeling the way you do. The jarring thing about this game is that it oozes latent potential, and that it feels like you're playing an ultra polished demo. Lore wise i understand that the pawns are soul less constructs, but i wish that Capcom would implement a more indepth personality system or allow players to use each others main characters instead.Lord_Valandil wrote...

On the subject of the pawn's combat effectiveness you have to make sure they have the proper inclinations like a warrior/fighter using mitigator/scather/challenger or a mage/sorcerer with nexus/utilitarian/challenger. Pawns with those inclinations would become efficient killing machines that need no baby sitting, and the only fustration would come from them being too good at what they do, like killing. For the story look at my above post.

Finally reason to go back to DD. It's getting a hard mode and speedrun mode this year and an expansion next:

I was reffering to the free updates. Even that's generous by Capcom standards. An expansion is surprising too.

True, true. With what I've heard of other Capcom titles, DLC is released regularly and often ends up being irrelevant crappy stuff. This is an expansion and it sounds like it's going to be a totally different story perhaps with a new protagonist (which would make sense).

Any tips on how to how to get her hired more often? What skills are most useful for her vocation or build mistakes I should avoid? She's been hired twice already but the feedback system is rather limited.

"The story has a lot of riddles to it," added producer Minae Matsukawa, "because we're trying to show off a new wrinkle to the game world that wasn't in the previous title. It's a sort of alternative conclusion that users can pick up on if they notice it. Also, Dragon's Dogma was set up with the idea there was only one Arisen, but this island has already seen several Arisens come to it and lose their lives there. That's how eerie and alien this place is, and you'll have to unravel all these riddles before you discover how it all connects to the world as a whole."
He adds that "users can pick up on if they notice it" at the end of the alternative conclusion comment. To me it sounds like he's simply referring to interpreting the new story rather than the current ending. It's not used in the right context but I could be wrong. Anything that improves upon the ending is welcome IMO.
Sounds like they're trying to go down the Dark Souls route with story-telling now but I doubt they'll succeed based on the abysmal plot and dialogue of Dragon's Dogma which was worst than ME3's ending IMO. Does Capcom even have talented writers? Because the story was such a non-coherent mess that it's hard to believe proper writers pieced it together.
I haven't played other Capcom titles so I can't really comment about the stories in their other games. It's clear story wasn't the main focus of DD so if they're amending that now then that's welcome perhaps they will actually produce a coherent story-line this time. I'm wary of this expansion however simply because I heard hard mode wasn't really that hard. If this expansion is going to cover new ground then it's going to need to add new challenges into the game for low and high level characters alike along with reason to replay. They'd be nothing worst than just breezing through the expansion fighting goblin enemies who are simply reskined copies of their Gransys counterparts (asides from Death there are no screens of new enemies).

I was actually fine with the ending, even though my pawn got a sex change and ran off with my Arisen's boyfriend

The only other Capcom titles I've played have been Resident Evil stuff, which aren't exactly story oriented either. But I have really high hopes for the expansion, and I hope they don't disappoint.
Oh, by the way, if anyone wants to use my pawn, my gamertag is GoneQuesting and my pawn's name is Kairn. He's a level 125 Warrior with a mitigator inclination and the best equipment possible. He's excellent crowd control when you're facing hordes
