I wasn't really planning on getting Dark Arisen, because DD long ago had run its course for me. But this is just an insult. Why not let people who bought your game on release have the option to enhance their experience without shelling out money for something they already have? I don't understand how Capcom could possibly think fans could react well to this.
It's good if you've never played the game, sure, but... come on. Why would you push away the fans who already bought the game, and would therefore be the ones most likely to be interested in the expansion?
Oh, Capcom, you so crazy.

I love how the article downplays the fact that you have to buy the whole game again. Ooh, unlimited ferrystones? Does that warrant a purchase?

They took note that a good majority of sheeple still bought UMvC3 after the vanilla MvC was released a few months earlier. Basically Capcom believes that their customers are stupid, and that they can get away with anything.Shepenwepet wrote...
Well, yes, I got that, I just can't understand how they thought it'd work. You'd think they'd reward fans instead of..well, this.

Well since Bethesda, Bioware, EA, Ubisoft and Lionhead Studios get away with it...I don't see the god of re-releases passing up on such a chance. I mean is this really that shocking? It IS Capcom after-all. They're not exactly Larian Studios or CD Projekt. They're just as bad as all the other big western/eastern companies.
Glad I sold my copy though. I can pick this title up when it drops to £15 meaning I lose no profit and technically I get the expansion for free.
Might wait longer though just in case they release any more new editions...
Probably will skip altogether if Dark Souls 2 comes out this year.
Edit:
If fact I see no real reason of getting Dark Arisen. It looks like more-or-less the same from what could be experienced in the main game. Even the enemies are but simple re-skins and tbh after two playthroughs through Dragon's Dogma, it pretty much becomes boring as is the norm for open world sandbox games which are linear in terms of story and quests.
We'll see what Dragon's Dogma 2 holds. If it's more-or-less the same like DD then you can count me out.
In other news, the developers of Gears of War are giving GoW1 away for free in new copies of Judgement:
http://www.nowgamer...._game_free.html
Never played the series but just wanted to post this as an example of a studio being somewhat generous (even though GoW can be picked up for £5 now). I know it's marketing strategy on their part but it's still some goodness. Capcom are too tight to ever consider doing something like this. By buying Dark Arisen, you're repurchasing the original game along with it.

“…owners of the original Dragon’s Dogma will receive 100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones and the Gransys Armour Pack consisting of six brand new costumes for free, upon purchasing Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen.”
From - Here.
I know what you're thinking: What, I own Dragon's Dogma 1 and I have
to pay £20 to get this - the same as a complete newcomer? Well yes you
do.But.You can carry characters and saved data into Dark
Arisen, and as an owner of the original game you'll be given gifts:
100,000 Rift Crystals, unlimited Ferrystones and a Gransys Armour Pack
that has six new costumes. It doesn't sound like the greatest reward for your loyalty, but it's better than a kick in the teeth. There's a new video for Dark Arisen to set the scene.
From - Here.
It's something I suppose.......

For what it's worth:
SourceI get it guys. We went round and round with the team on this topic as it would have been a preferred option from our standpoint too. As it turns out, I'm sorry but unfortunately there were major technical limitations that couldn't allow for a digital upgrade path. The original game was just not designed to be expanded (no hooks in the original code) and so a full-game delivery mechanism was the only option.
We also tried to explore a number of mechanisms to try and otherwise put this full product in original owners hands at a discount digitally but we would have run afowl of a few first party policies (not any first party's fault, t'was our fault).
So instead, we're packing more than $20 worth of value in digital rewards for existing users: 100K rift crystals (which in DDDA have a LOT more uses than they did in DD vanilla) the Gransys armor pack and the unlimited Ferrystone. We hope this will be a sufficent "thank you" for being part of the first wave of Dragon's Dogma fans given the development limitations we had.
Thanks again for your continued support and I hope to see you in Gransys in April.

Apparently, all of the DLC from the original DD will be included in Dark Arisen as well. Which I suppose could add to or soften the blow depending on whether you've already purchased them too.

Anyway I kinda hoping for some kind of melee staff to be included in this.

How exactly to you fight the Ur-Dragon? I know through the DD wiki that you have to attack the purple areas on his body, but for some reason my lvl88 Arisen could not even make a dent, even though I was high on Liquid Vim and spamming the rapid fire move (FiveFold Flurry or something like that) with a stage 2 bow that is actually stronger than the bow you receive from killing Grigori. Was I doing something wrong?

Posté 26 janvier 2013 - 12:23
Holy enchantment + Liquid Vim + the ranger's TenFold Flurry/Hundred Kisses spam should greatly increase your damage output when attacking Ur's weakspots. Also keep an eye out for his wing tips as i remember that they will glow too, and you will actually have to climb the dragon to reach some spots so remember to keep Ur's wiki page open as it has a diagram that maps out the weak spots.
Also make sure that you have unlocked the warrior's, and fighter's strength augments along with the warrior's augment proficiency.
Plus here's a video that should also help.

I'm going to trade in the copy of DD I have ASAP and use a $10 dollar off coupon at Gamestop to see if I can get the price in the target range of about $20 dollars or less -- the cost of the dlc. I'll buy it then. But I won't forget this Capcom! I won't buy a vanilla game of yours again. The Hierophant wrote...
