Eh, apparently the locked content were 100 additional quests which weren't anything special unless you care for fetch quests?

If DD gets a sequel, it should have the option of early fast travel. It was cute at first, but the back and forth before you get those teleport thingies got annoying fast.

They evidently fixed this in Dark Arisen as you are able to fast travel to 5 different places right off the bat along with a bunch of other changes

Here in Canada, there's a promotion going on at Gamestop/EB Games in which you can trade in a game valued at $15 or more and get Dark Arisen for free.

...so if any of you out there bought The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct (currently valued at $21!), here's a way to finally get that trash out of your house. The offer is only on until the 28th.

I had nothing to trade in, so Dark Arisen went unpurchased here. I'll borrow it if I really feel the need to.

^ The choice is yours. It's a fun game, though. Posted Image

@Shepenwepet  - That's a great deal, and my husband bought that piece of crap. So happy he stopped playing it; it was horrible even just to watch.

I'll be playing Dark Arisen once I get home from work...I think. It will depend on install time and patches. I'm debating whether to continue with my original character, or start anew. I'd kinda like a new pawn, but I don't want to miss out on the import stuff. Maybe the game will just do a detection, and I won't actually have to use that character? *crossing fingers*

I still dig Barnaby, personally. Posted Image I think it's his voice. I never did attempt to follow-through with a "romance" with him.

I was playing my character earlier (Level 33, my first playthrough) when after resting it tried to autosave and said "failed to save". I shrugged and continued on playing for another hour or so, then before I was about to do a big boss fight, I hard saved  and again got "failed to save". I had to go shopping so just turned it off and hoped it would be okay when I started the game again.

NO! :crying: I just tried to play now and the game informed me that both saves are "corrupted" and I would have to start fresh from the beginning with a new character! What. The. Hell. I just lost around fifty hours of gameplay. Screw you Capcom and your 1 save practice!!!

Has anyone heard of this happening before? I was enjoying the game despite its many, many flaws but what the heck? I've ordered Dark Arisen and it's coming from Amazon this Thursday but I don't know if I have the heart to start over. Plus, who's to say this won't happen again?  So disappointed. :(

Probably not. It's the only reason I haven't tried it quite yet.

Yes. While nobody I know personally had this happen to them, it is common. It's unclear what causes the corrupt save, only shutting down your system while autosaving, which you obviously couldn't have done if it "failed to save."

Some people suggest that having too many saved screenshots can do it (although it's happened to people who don't use the screenshot feature at all.)

The only thing you can do is back up your save with a usb drive / memory unit / etc. If it happened once, it could happen again.

I hate games with only one save slot. I get paranoid.

Thanks. :)

I just did a quick search and apparently this is a well known flaw from last year, and it's happened to lots of people with no way to prevent it. Just a random built-in bug and bad luck, since it doesn't happen to everyone and there seems to be no way to predict or prevent it. I just wish I had known about it and the whole one save issue, as I would have definitely given this game a pass to avoid the aggravation.

Now, I like the game and don't want to give up since I didn't even get to finish the main storyline or anything. But.....but.... *sigh* :?

I honestly think it has to do with their server, as I only got the "failed to save" pop-up after resting when your pawn goes off and then comes back. The loading bar from the server took a long time, and that was when it tried to auto-save and failed. I didn't even know there could be a failure to save when you click the hard save and tell it to save your game. FML.

^ Sorry to hear that happened to you, Bekkael. Posted Image

I was toying with the idea of picking up where I left off (which I tried), or starting over (which I ended up doing anyway), for Dark Arisen.

My original character was at level 52, but it had been so long since I last played that I didn't remember how to fight, where I'd left off, nothing. I went outside of Gran Soren to fight some Saurians, and was totally clueless. I had switched classes entirely (went from a Magick Archer to a Mystic Knight) before I stopped playing last, so I was about as green as you could be.

So I started over. Before I did that, though, I made backup copies on a USB and the cloud. I'm crossing my fingers that everything goes well, in case I want to go back to my original playthrough.

I'm pretty happy with my new character, but I joked with my husband and told him my pawn was going to be her twin. Well, I was right. And it wasn't intentional. They have different color hair, eyes, different hair styles, etc., but otherwise, they're pretty much twins. And I picked a lousy voice for my pawn. Dang it. I can't remember - can you ever change that, once you commit to it?

Yep, once you hit Gran Soren, you can get the "royal treatment" from the barber shop, lets you customize your pawn to your liking, voice included. That's one hell of a barber.

There's also an "art of metamorphosis" item you can buy from one of the merchants in that camp with the hydra battle, if you can't wait until gran soren.

I should pick this game up again, see where I'd left off. I'd started a new game +, I guess you could call it, but never finished.

LOL, I went looking through my screenshots and found one of photobombing direwolves. I remember this.

You have just made my day. Hooray! I wish the voice previews in the character creator would give you a better idea of how the pawn will sound. Oh, speaking of which, I saw a notice when I started playing DA that the new character creator is not available. Made me very sad.

I completed the hydra battle, and ran back to Cassardis with my pawn, and two others I'd hired, before I went to bed last night. Lots more quests there now, I noticed.

At what point can you start using your friends' pawns for free? The option is greyed out for me in this new playthrough.

Haha, those direwolves are awesome. I think I only captured like one image in my whole first playthrough, and it was of that golem from the Tomb of the Unknown Traveler.

I thought friends' pawns were always free. Maybe there's some issue with having/not having Dark Arisen. Can you still hire the pawns but have to pay for them?

Nope. I guess I should clarify, I left it a little vague. I installed Dark Arisen, then tried the following:

When I loaded my existing character, and went to the rift, all of my friends pawns were there and available. Nothing seemed to have changed overall, except that I had new gear (that had worse stats than what I already had), extra rift crystals, and that new reusable ferrystone.

Then when I started the new game, and went into the rift in the encampment, the friends pawns link was greyed out. I figured that after the hydra fight, it would become available, but it didn't. I probably could have done a search, but called it a night. I'll try that when I get home later today.
