Did a speed run of DD for nothing but two poxy outfits. Bah. Took me 7 hours and 7 minutes or something. Thank God it was the weekend as I wouldn't have managed this otherwise. Last time I've played a game for that long was when Dark Souls PTDE was released and before that, the original version back in 2011. With DD though, I took a few breaks between the speedrun though. Did it to get the NG+ achievement (as I create new characters and therefore I've never got this achievement).

I'll be creating a new character on hard mode for the Dark Arisen content. Some of those DLC armours and weapons look nice.

The reason my pawn is a warrior (and a male) is because I like to play squishy classes like mage/sorcerer. I always need a big, strong warrior to protect me. :D Plus, I like dressing him up in shiny armor.

Both the pawns I employed are ladies; one is a warrior and the other is a strider. I act as healer, which is the only way I can keep my idiot pawn alive, since he likes to run off and die every chance he gets. Not really, but sometimes it seems that way, especially at low levels when he doesn't have much strength or health.

I started a new run last week, and my main pawn is a female, and a Ranger. My original main pawn was/is male, and is also a Ranger. In retrospect, I should have probably made one of them specialize in something else, as that class is much better suited to hogging it to yourself. Hehe.

I did a sneaky little cheat to get around only having one save - I copied my original save game files to the cloud, and started the new game on my hard drive. I've been testing it out, and it works perfectly. I assume you could also employ use of a thumb drive.

Anyway, back to male pawns, I played my second playthrough for about 30 hours, then went back to my original. I immediately took Iorveth (my main pawn) to the barber, and did a makeover on him. He now has long dark hair in a ponytail...oh, and I got him an eye patch from the Black Cat. He looks much better now. I hope people might actually start hiring him now. During all the time I spent in my first playthrough, he was only hired 16 times.

I was thinking about the relationship of male to female pawns I've hired, and realized something: I am partial to solidarity (I'm female, I hire female). In my first run, I had male support pawns in my party for 9 hours. I had female support pawns in my party for 155 hours. Little bit of a disparity there.

Also, in my new run, I started off playing a mage. I realized pretty quickly how squishy they are, and it feels like it takes forever to cast spells. So I switched over to Strider, then Ranger. I am addicted to ranged combat, it would seem.

After playing that for a while, I loaded my original playthrough. Mostly it was because I got hijacked into max affinity with Selene. In my original run, it was Julien first. Meh. I haven't given anyone the Arisen Bond yet. I'm not even sure how, tbh.

Now that I actually know what I'm doing (it had been a while since I last played), I'm pretty good at playing my Mystic Knight. That is a super fun class. Not as fun as being an archer, but it's fun just the same.

I haven't even started on Dark Arisen yet.

So I decided to buy the game on PS3 via PSN store. I played 5-6 hours so far ( I am  starting doing the hunting stuff).

Outside of the qualities of the game( Boss fight, Pawn system, Character Creator and other munchies . There's some bad apple in the mix.

I'm sure it's been said, but I have to get out of my chest.

1: The music is awful. The Japanese Seiyu seem to be doing okay and the sound effect is well but the Soundtrack... It's awful. When that cheesy music started to play....My ear started bleeding. It's never good when  right in the bat you think ye made a mistake buying a game when the music start running.. It's just bad. Capcom... Guile theme would have been better.

2: Those damned black bar. Seriously ? It's awful. I don't understand why.

3: ....The draw distance could be better done. It's not bad actually.. You see quite far... Seeing far a bunch of washed up texture full of aliasing is bad draw distance. Do it good or don't do it.

5: The aliasing is terrible. My eyes blinking just looking at it.

6: The FOV  the most horrible thing of this game

7: Where's my zoom  ? Zoom in .. Zoom out ... Too much high tech for them.

8: I don't have a problem with no free instant travel, but there's no horse.. So it's a pain in the mungo bungo

10: Some texture are just ... MAMAMIA..
.....

and yes I know.. Its not a very good bad apple, but ... I never seen a RPG with such .. Shallow character. There's no NPC with any soul so far. They just exist so they can give you some bad quest. I,M not sure sure anymore about doing the 50 rabbit kill quest... Seriously.. It's a single plauyer game.. Don't do that capcom.

^ Suprez, which black bar are you referring to? I'm not sure I'm seeing that on xbox.

You're right, the opening music is...meh. However, there are certain parts of the game where the music is good (just wait until you do your first griffin battle). But alas, it's no Skyrim soundtrack, that's for sure. But it's just background. You can turn it down or off in Options, so you don't have to deal with it in-game.

What kind of zoom are you looking for? Do you mean being able to switch to first person, or something else?

Once you start getting portcrystals and ferrystones, you'll be able to fast travel, thankfully. It's a decent-sized map, and without being able to fast travel, yeesh. It's a lot of ground to cover, going back and forth. If you regularly check notice boards and accept their quests, you'll have a monstrous to-do list before long. That means even more back and forth. I like to collect all of the quests, and plan where I'm going based on which quests I have in the area.

And btw, there are a few main characters that you'll get to know a little better later, but admittedly, it's a one-sided conversation in pretty much every case. But hey, you can "romance" dang near anyone. Hehe.

And dang it, I have been playing my first run again, and somehow managed to bungle up every person's affinity I was trying to max, so they'd live in my house (well, except for Selene).

Reynard
I dunno, I just can't even find him. I think I went too far in the mq, and negated his quest.

Julien
Gave him a bunch of festival pies, maxed him out, then...didn't make the right choice in Pride Before a Fall.

Mercedes
Not enough Cloudwine, I guess. Then Pride Before a Fall.

Madeleine
Had affinity maxed, and proceeded too far into the main quest. Missed her Bloodwater Beach escort mission, then Bad Business started, and I did not seize the opportunity. I am kicking myself for that, as I'd just gotten the Arisen's Bond finally. And I couldn't reload.

Not sure what to do about that now. I just completed the cockatrice battle last night, and am worried I won't have a bond with anyone before I proceed further in the mq...sniffle. Any suggestions?

What.

If you mean the title menu music, I'm usually in the game before the lyrics start, so it doesn't really bother me.

Considering you "can't find Reynard anywhere", he may in fact be locked in as your "LI." I forget when that cut off point is. If he's the first person you maxed affinity with, he may pop up later. If not, don't worry, you'll still have someone the game views as "important to you."

In fact, if you haven't completed Search Party and Reynard is MIA, I'm almost 100% sure that he's locked in. Barnaby vanished in my first playthrough. He popped up later.

I didn't have Reynard maxed, sadly. I was hoping to find him to get him maxed, but I've torn Gransys apart looking for him. It was quite a while back when I played this run, and I've forgotten which quests I have done. I have a sinking feeling that he's just gone.

So I'm curious...are there any new people in Dark Arisen that I can form a bond with? I don't know why I'm suddenly so fixated on this. Posted Image

From the romance guides I've read, Julien sounds really tricky. In Pride you have to kill him during the fight, then use a wakestone on him after and he'll return to the castle dungeons instead of leaving the country. I guess he gives you his shield if you talk to him there too.

For Mercedes you have to stay out of the fight. But I think you have to make sure she's pink headed beforehand. I couldnt' manage it myself.

I'm trying for Madeline this playthrough. Which should work out if Selene doesn't win out again. Selene still has alot of residual affection from the previous playthrough 'win.' And I couldn't bring myself to ignore her quests this run, even though I haven't gifted her.

At least they patched the innkeeper so you no longer gain affection with him just for talking with him. I'm guessing they heard enough complaints about people getting ninjamanced just for checking their storage vaults alot.

Yeah, neither me or my husband realized you could actually intervene in Pride Before a Fall. I only had a Wakestone shard on me anyway, so it wouldn't have done me much good. I really wanted a merchant, so they would be nice and handy, living in my house. My sense of timing has been totally craptacular.

I read on the wiki that even if you max affinity with Selene, she just lives in your house, and whoever you give your Arisen Bond to is there as well? Is that not the case?

Asalam has aught in his drawers, and it's all mine. Posted Image

Edit: Here is that note I read on the wikia site about Selene.

***SPOILERS***
Selene will move to your house in Cassardis after the quest Witch Hunt.
This does NOT mean she will end up being your love interest. Your love interest will also end up at your house after Grigori is killed, which means: if you have Selene as your love interest, only she will be at your house, but if you have someone else, there will be two persons at your house (Selene + your love interest).

Yup the wiki was correct. But she both moved to my house AND was my love interest on my first playthrough.

Which makes things both more and less awkward. Because she looks underage (even if she's actually older than my arisen) but on the plus side, she's not standing next to the bed I'm sharing with someone else either.

So have you two been playing Dark Arisen? I've been a little scared to start it. Posted Image I think I'm at level 56 with this character. Just curious if I should wrap up the vanilla game, then try DA? Or vice versa?

If I keep botching up this run, I might have to switch back to my new character. But dern it, I finally got Iorveth (my main pawn in my first run) looking awesome, with an eye patch, long hair, and facial stubble. I will miss him and his lovely voice (I believe he's got the Troy Baker one).

The Dark Arisen section I'm finding...difficult. Its basically a really tough dungeon romp. The game reccomends being at least level 50. I'm 80+ and had the first party wipe I ever remember getting in the game about 10 minutes into it. (Some Grim Reaper boss that made me think I took a wrong turn into Persona)

But you can visit the expansion area at any time, and come back whenever you wish. So you dont need to be afraid to poke your nose in, do a little, then go back to the main game as desired. No penalty for that. In fact its probably worth doing simply to pick up the free version of the customization DLC. That will let you see the new hairstyles/colors/ring items on other people's pawns.

@Jack, are there any shops right inside that new DA area? Or are you immediately tossed into a new landscape? I'm guessing if you got pwned in 10 minutes, I'm going to be in some serious trouble.

The girl you see on the Cassardis docks at night is the vendor you get the DLC stuff from on the island. She also provides inventory/vocation/skill management and this new 'uncursing' function that lets you purify items you find in the dungeon so you can use them.

You'll be able to do all that right off the boat on the other side without fighting a thing.

Ahh, good to know. I'll probably take a peek tonight, then.

In the meantime, I still have a snakeskin purse to find, along with a bunch of those DLC badges. I also picked up a quest on a notice board to take out gargoyles. I know it's been a long time since I played DD, but I don't even remember seeing those. Or some new kind of saurian I've been tasked with finding, that I haven't run into yet. Yada yada yada, this is beginning to feel like Skyrim.

It's true that the main theme was horrible but Dark Arisen replaced it. Now you don't get that guitar playing with a band singing. The in-game music is actually pretty good.

Dark Arisen is nearly worth it just for removing that horrid song from the intro.

The hardest quest in the original game for me was trying to load my game before it started.

Wow, they replaced the title screen music? Seriously? Did people complain that much?

You hear it for all of ten seconds, unless you choose to hang out there.

Did they at least tone down how many times your pawns tell you that GOBLINS HATE FIRE? Surely that would have gotten more complaints than the music.

The pawn chatter used to drive me nuts; now it's an internal meme. We have a cat that likes to drink directly out of the faucet, who gets to hear, "Careful you're not soaked in water!" pretty frequently. Heh.

They also apparently patched the frequency of Pawn commentary. But honestly I haven't noticed a difference.

And they didnt replace the music. They just removed the J-Rock song. They kept the other title screen music.
